Primary 3 Toy Sale

Dear Parents/Carers

Primary 3 are having a sale of toys, jigsaws, games and books to raise money for plants to put in the planters at the shops in Deans. The sale will be this Friday, the 10th of June from11:15am -11:45am in the Primary 3 classroom.

You are very welcome to come to school from 11:15 and join your child at the sale. This then gives you the opportunity to attend the coffee morning at 11:45 in the hall to meet The Support Squad (Parent Council).

Much appreciated

Primary 3

P1 this week

Primary 1 have had another very busy week.

In writing we have been working on the ‘ai’ sound.

We have been writing fairy tales and imagining who the main character was, what happened to them and who came to rescue them.

In maths we have been continuing to explore measure using non-standard units.  We don’t think this is a very accurate way of measuring as all the cubes and items are different sizes.    We have been working on our number bonds and addition facts and we all had a great time using sumdog games based learning to help us practise our skills.
We have a school subscription to Sumdog and it can be used at home.  www.sumdog.com  If you need a copy of the username and password please let us know.

In digital learning, we have found out that algorithms are sequences of instructions.  We tried following algorithms in the classroom and we had fun with an ‘unplugged’ algorithm to draw a crazy character.

We then tried using ScratchJr to code the sprite to move in a specific way.  We were writing an algorithm using blocks.  It was a challenge at times, but great fun.

Outdoor Learning

Deans Primary are trying to create a suitable and exciting outdoor learning space within the school grounds. Unfortunately, we are being hampered by vandals who destroy our newly planted trees, take apart out new Willow shelter and continually damage our bug hotel and newly erected structure that will be part of our area of biodiversity. On the last occasion some of the nursery items were also destroyed. The children and staff of the school would like to ask the community to support our endeavours.

Outdoor Learning

Once again Deans Primary have received a donation of saplings from the Woodland Trust. The children are not only hoping this will enhance the look of the school grounds but begin to support a Net Zero Community and improve the environment.

The children would like to ask all children, staff, parents, carers and members of the community to help us look after the saplings so they get the opportunity to grow into large, strong trees. Since they are newly planted and have not yet taken root we would appreciate it if you could stay away from the trees. If you see or hear of any issues with the trees can you please get in touch with Mrs Dobbie.

Prirmary 4/3’s Bug Hotel

Primary 4/3 have been working hard to maintain the Bug Hotel they started work on last year. Unfortunately, we believe that some children are continually playing on it and moving or removing some of the material. Can everyone please help by looking but not touching. Primary 4/3 are hoping that when it is set up properly that the everyone can use it for outdoor learning.

A busy week in P2/1

We have had such a busy week in P2/1!

Spelling

This week, the P1s have been learning all about the ‘m’ sound. We have had lots of practise forming the letter m and identifying words that we hear the letter in.

The P2s have been consolidating their knowledge of the ‘oa’ and ‘ai’ sounds. They were challenged to think of different words containing these sounds, and to try and use them in a sentence.

Writing

We have continued to focus on the genre of Recount. This week, we were challenged to recount our bedroom! We had to draw and label our bedroom, before trying to write some sentences about what we like to do in it.

Numeracy

Primary 1 have learned two numbers this week! We have learned all about the numbers 3 and 4. We have been focusing on what the numbers mean, how they can be made and how to form the numbers correctly.

Primary 2 have been looking at forward and backward number sequences to 100. We have been playing some fun games to help us learn, including snakes and ladders!

Maths

As a whole school this week, we have focused on the topic of shape. The class were outside with Mrs Dobbie trying to find 2D shapes in the local environment. On Thursday, we had the chance to work with our buddies to create our very own monsters using 2D shapes!

P.E.

In P.E. this term, we are focusing on spatial awareness. We had to move around the hall in different ways and using different pieces of equipment such as bean bags.

What a busy week we have had!

This week, we began ELF. During ELF, we work in group rotations around different stations completing tasks that help our literacy learning. This week, some of our tasks included making our names from playdough, working on our fine motor control and learning how to make a prediction. The Primary 2s were working so hard with Mrs Morrison on their spelling that we didn’t have a chance to take some pictures!

During Numeracy, we have been working on forwards and backwards number sequences. All of the children are loving practising this and we have a super catchy song to help us learn! Here is the link if you would like to listen at home.

The Primary 1s have also been learning all about the number 1 and number 2. We have been working on our formation of the numbers, as well as understanding how the numbers are made. Here are some photos of us finding things around the classroom that have 2 parts.

We also had the chance to work with our buddies to create an Elmer who is proud to be different. We had a discussion about what makes us special and how being unique is great!

We can’t wait for another fabulous week of learning next week in Primary 2/1!

Welcome from Primary 2/1

Kids Welcome Sign with Light Blue Background and Rainbow Letters | Light blue background, Fun signs, Blue backgrounds

Hello and welcome to our blog! We have had such a busy and fun first week in Primary 2/1!

Our primary 2s and some of our primary 1s have been showing off what they already know about numbers and dot patterns through playing different games.

Some of our primary 2s have been revising their knowledge of basic CVC words through board games!

Whilst the primary 2s were doing some jobs with Mrs Morrison, the primary 1s began learning about the start, middle and end. We had to circle which animal was in each position in the feeding queue, and which person was in each position in the bus queue. This will help us when we start reading and writing words.

The primary 1s have also had a chance to spend lots of time with their buddies this week! The P7 buddies have been so helpful when getting ready for break, having our lunch and also spending time out in the playground.

We cannot wait to get stuck in to more learning next week!

Where possible, please ensure ALL of your child’s belongings are labelled. We have a pile of jumpers, shoes and jackets beginning to form and it can be very difficult to match these back with the children without name labels. Thank you!

Primary 1B Learning Highlights

This week we have had a focus on Money in our maths work. We have been investigating all of the different coins, what they look like, how they feel and of course how we can use them. We have discussed how important it is to be able to recognise coins, their value and to be able to add up amounts.

We have been sorting coins into their values.

We have been playing games on the smartboard to help us practise adding up using different coins to make different amounts.

We have been rubbing coins to make our own ‘Money Trees’.

We have been labelling the coins with their correct value.

This week we have also had the opportunity to meet our new teachers for a sort introductory session. We can’t wait for all the exciting learning that Primary Two will bring!

We hope you enjoyed a snapshot of our week. We are looking forward to our final week in Primary 1!
