New year!

Last week we were looking at a famous Scottish cartoon character and climate change. We have tried designing our own comic with the character about climate change. We also decided to be put forth in a big event in the Edinburgh Film Festival. We can get to make our own mini movies and if we win, we get to see our movie in a cinema! Also if we win massive film directors can get to see it on the big screen, other school pupils also get to see it! We have made letters to ask the company (for copyright reasons) if  we can use their characters.

We tried using a new genre in language, Persuasive writing. We used this genre for writing our email/letters to the company to persuade them to let us use their characters.

On the first week back we looked into a new topic for math, Division.  We have made math posters on laptops to show what we understand in math. We tried using the bus stop method when trying to do division. We have learnt what a remainder and how to use the bus stop methods. We also used fact families and used algebra.

Subjects In P5/6

For Math we used brackets on our target tables. We used various strategies, one of the strategies was using an empty number-line.

Inside of music we learnt a new song called ”Hit the road, Jack” We used actions to remember the lyrics. We tried sound orchestra where you say a noise and do an action.

Spanish (Espanol y Ingles) We have been learning about Christmas like- árbol de Navidad – Christmas tree, papa noel – Santa and Turquía – turkey.

Inside of Writing we did winter/Christmas senses poems for example- Adam S.

I see razor sharp icicles pointing dangerously at me! The super slippery snow threw me into my friends. It was an addictive adventure in the snow. I saw Santa crash into the frozen pond and Rudolf shouted,”AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!”  A fearless flying ship flew past and shot enormous icicles at me and hit the snow balls that glided past me. My Christmas calendar shouted, “EAT ME EAT MEEEE!!!” The North Star show me North Pole. Me and my family. I and my family went Christmas shopping and everything was waiting for me. My dog went like lightning mcqueen threw the grizzly grass because he is a grey hound the fastest dog in the world!

I hear the wind whistling, throwing me off my feet like an eagle.

I hear the snowflakes gently dancing to the ground like sleek, spring feathers.

I hear the old man throwing the bumpy grit on to the roads.

Cyber-bullying, Inclusion and anti-racism

In this week P5/6 have been learning about anti-racism, inclusion, celebrating our differences and cyber-bullying. We made posters in partners about one of the themes.

We discussed what cyber-bullying is to prevent it and what we should do. We used the online resource. ”Think You Know” We tested how far we could go and how much answers we could pass.

Inclusion is one of our own school values.

P5/6 Update

The class are very much looking forward to their educational walk to the park this coming Monday (25th November) which we hope will inspire them to write fabulous poems on “Winter”. Please make sure that your children have appropriate clothes etc for such a trip.

Next week we will also be looking at cyber bullying.

Thank you

P5/6’s fabulous 70s party

During the p5/6s 70s party Parents and carers were aloud to come into our classroom. We had many different activities to do.

jumping on space hoppers was one of the activities. We were aloud to make drawings of Andy Warhol’s design of Marilyn Monroe. One had key rings, puzzles and boggle. Another activity was dancing the YMCA. While we were at the different stations we listened to music.

Some of us dressed up wearing wacky hair, disco trousers and shirts, We even got some parents to dress up! If we didn’t bring anything to wear, Mr Colverson would bring in different clothing. There was two different themes for the 70s. Throughout 1970 – 1977 the style was disco but during the 1978 – 1980+ the style was punk. We could wear ripped jeans, black t-shirts and Mohawk-style hair (and even black rubbish bags)

A lot of music we still watch are from the 70s just like-

Mamma Mia’s songs – Abba

ABC – Jackson 5

YMCA – village people
