Today we had another great, fun-filled Families Connect session. This session’s focus was on the importance of praise. Parents discussed different types of praise, took part in a drawing activity (with their non-dominant hands!) and received various types of praise from their partner. We really enjoyed talking about what our children had been up to and the reasons they are superstars. Once the children joined us we made superstar awards together – with lots of sparkles and glue! We are already looking forward to next week’s session which is based on listening.

Families Connect
We had a great first session with our Families Connect group! This week involved talking about identifying different feelings using picture cards and feelings fans. Children enjoyed their snack with their parents and then enjoyed discussing and investigating feelings and reactions to different scenarios using their magnifying glass. We are already looking forward to next week’s session!
Puppet Project
In The Den we have taken an interest in puppets. This week we have enjoyed playing with the finger puppets and we even made our own wooden spoon puppets! We are looking forward to planning and putting on our own show over the next few weeks – we all have fabulous imaginations!
Families Connect
Thank you to the Primary 1 parents and carers who took the time to hear about our Families Connect programme at the ‘Meet the Teacher’ event yesterday. We are thrilled to have lots of families signed up. Sarah and Mrs Moyes are looking forward to welcoming those who signed up on the 20th of September at 1pm.
Final PE Session for our P7s
Last week the P7s had their final PE session. The decision was left up to the class as to what they wanted to do and they chose football. The weather was beautiful so we took the equipment out onto the field. We started with 5v5 games and then increased the challenge by inviting the P6/7s to join us. A great time was had by all!
Stay and Play in The Den
Today we had an absolutely fabulous time with our parents and carers in The Den. Our parents and carers joined us for choosing time, snack and mindfulness. Firstly we chose what to play with our carers, we enjoyed showing them the many different activities we take part in when we are in The Den. We then had a breakfast of croissants, butter, jam, strawberries, blueberries and fruit juice – we thought this was delicious! Finally, we all took part in mindfulness, today’s story was ‘The Little Mermaid’. We really enjoyed having our parents and carers in The Den today and we are looking forward to inviting them in again soon.
P2/3 PE
This week in PE with Mrs Moyes, P2/3 learned how to play a new playground game. They learned how to play ‘Capture the Flag’. This involved listening to instructions very carefully and working as a team. They really enjoyed this and are keen to play the game with their friends in the playground.
Mindfulness in The Den
In The Den we have been learning about Mindfulness.
Mindfulness is “The practice of being aware of your body, mind, and feelings in the present moment, thought to create a feeling of calm.”
To create this feeling of calm we close the blinds, find a space to lie on a beanbag on the floor, turn off the light and listen to calming music. We also practise our deep breathing. We finish the session by having a big stretch and each of us says something positive that has happened so far that day. This helps us to go back to class feeling calm and positive.
PE Week Beginning 14th May
This week we all started our new topics in PE. WE are now learning about fitness.
Each class had a chat about what the word ‘fitness’ means to them. Each class mentioned a healthy diet and exercise. We talked about different types of fitness and discussed if we had a favourite way to exercise.
Primary 5 warmed up by stretching and going for a jog. They then worked different muscle groups through exercises. They worked with partners to do 10 sit ups at a time – the partners held their feet down to make sure the sit up was effectively working the abdominal muscles. They then worked their chest, arm and shoulder muscles by doing press ups – they chose which type of press up they were most comfortable with. They moved on to trying out burpees, mountain climbers, and finally, they ended with a plank competition!
PE week beginning 7th April
In PE this week Primary 6 were rounding up their learning about athletics. They discussed what skills they had learned and linked them to the significant aspects of learning on our PE wall and then put this learning into practice. They warmed up with a game of ‘Taxis’ which also tested their maths skills before working in teams to complete shuttle runs – this tested their stamina. They then discussed the different types of throwing events and had a go at the discus. Firstly, they focused on their technique with a partner and when they had mastered that they tried throwing it as far as they could. It was great to be learning outside in the sunshine!
