*ATTENTION P6 and P7 PARENTS*

We have a very exciting opportunity coming up at Deans Primary. We are going to be holding a parent and child first aid course in school on Friday 22nd March from 9:30am-12:30pm. This will be run by staff from the Low Port Centre and we are sure this will be a very valuable experience for all those involved. There is no charge to parents/carers for this.

Spaces are very limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you would like to participate with your child please return the slip in your child’s bag to school office as soon as possible.

We would love to invite parents, grandparents, aunties or uncles to take part in this with their child. Childcare will be provided for any younger siblings of participants.

The first hour of each session will consist of parents/carers enjoying a cup of tea and looking through resources, the children will join us for the second hour where we will have a snack and carry out the activity. You will then get to take the resources home with you to enjoy again and again.

Parents and carers who took part in the last session have said:

“I feel happier to interact with school”

“I enjoyed every minute”

“Families Connect has been really good and I feel others would benefit from it”

“Very helpful with bringing emotions and school subjects together and doing it at home”

“I think my friends would enjoy doing all the activities”

We look forward to hearing from you!

Nurturing the Birds!

The Den Gang have been worried about birds being hungry in this cold weather as they have been discussing how tricky it must be for birds to find food as the ground is frozen and there are no berries left on the bushes. To help the birds, they decided to make bird feeders.

Here are the instructions we followed if you would like to make your own bird feeder at home: https://www.rspb.org.uk/fun-and-learning/for-kids/games-and-activities/activities/make-a-speedy-bird-cake

Swap Shop

We are delighted to announce that our Swap Shop is now open!

Please come along and browse our items. We suggest a 20p donation per item but this is not essential. Please also feel free to hand in any clothes you have that are looking for a new home!

Swap Shop

Deans Primary Clothing Swap Shop

350,000 tonnes, that’s around £140 million, worth of used but still wearable clothing goes to landfill in the UK every year

More than 60% of householders in the UK say they have unwanted clothes and textiles stored in their homes

To help combat this, Deans Primary are starting up their own Clothing Swap Shop. There will be items of clothing for both children and adults available for you to take – we suggest a 20p donation per item but this is not essential. If you have any clothes in good condition your children have grown out of you would like to pass on please hang them up on the rail (we would appreciate if these were washed first).

The swap shop will be located at the front entrance of the school from Tuesday 29th January and will be open every school day.

Happy swapping!

Den Show and Tell

We are looking forward to taking part in ‘Show and Tell’ in The Den on Thursday. Pupils will be bringing in photos, toys or books from home to share with The Den Gang who will listen and ask questions.

Keep your eyes peeled later in the week for photos of what we brought in!

P7 Mindfulness

Each week P7 have been having a mindfulness session with Mrs Moyes. To begin with we find a comfy space to sit or lie in, we take 3 big deep breaths in through our nose and then we begin listening to relaxing music. Mrs Moyes then reads us a mindfulness story to help us relax. The stories help us be calm, relax and focus.

Emma – Once we have done mindfulness we go back to class and we are able to concentrate and finish our work

James L-S – We sometimes get to hold the guinea pigs during mindfulness, stroking them makes me feel relaxed

Brandon – The story makes me see pictures in my head

Kevin – Mindfulness makes me feel relaxed

It’s Snowing!

Today we made snow in The Den! We measured 2 cups of baking powder and half a cup of white conditioner and slowly mixed them together. This made lovely, cold pretend snow. Most of us enjoyed touching it and we even made mini snowmen. Mrs Moyes then added some precious stones to the snow for us to find, we then chose to play together, adding vehicles and figures to the snow, we really enjoyed this imaginative play with one another.

P1/2 PE

Today in PE with Mrs Moyes we tried out some yoga moves. The gym hall was being used by the nurses giving the flu vaccinations so we went along to The Den.

We stretched our bodies to start off with then did some yoga using Cosmic Yoga on the SmartBoard. We listened to a story called Squish the Fish and did yoga moves along to it.

Joseph – We had fun together

Calvin – Yoga was really, really good

Lewis – I liked the surf board pose

Daniel – The shark pose was my favourite

We would all like to try yoga again soon!

Read, Write, Count

Primary 2 and Primary 3 had a very busy afternoon at our Read, Write, Count event! There were lots of activities to try out, such as, writing a book review, playing lots of fun numeracy games, playing on Education City on the laptops, giant snakes and ladders, enjoying reading on the bean bags, completing a word-search and playing Boggle.

All pupils also got a free bag of literacy and numeracy activities to take home to play with their parents/carers and other family members.

Thank you very much to all the parents and carers who made it along to this event, we were delighted you could join us!
