New Resources for our Class

We have had a very busy week working on our maths.  We have been given budget of some money to spend on new resources for our class.  We looked through catalogues to get ideas of what we would like to buy.  We made a shopping list of the stuff we really wanted.  Unfortunately, we were way over our budget and we had to take some things off our list.  We decided we wanted a numbers rug for our maths zone, and we measured the space to check the rug would fit.

We have also been working on fractions, and exploring the relationship between multiplication and division.

We made lovely valentine heart pictures using chalks and stencils.

P3 Have Another Awesome Week

Last week we performed a simple version of a Scottish dance at the Burns Assembly.  We enjoyed wearing the tartan sashes for our dance.

As part of our Scots focus this week, we have added more steps to our dance, and now it is becoming quite a challenge, but we are all having fun learning.  We have also been learning about different Scots words, and listening to stories written in Scots.  Sometimes it is easy to guess, and sometimes not.  We were all a bit stuck with translating “loon”.

We have been creative with our imaginative writing, and have been writing more stories for our classroom pets.  We have now started to type them on the computer.  We will try to put some of our stories on the blog, once they are finished.

Stunning Sunrise over Livingston

This photograph was taken on Monday, at the front of the school.  During the week, we have discussed silhouettes, and using chalks.  We have made some lovely pictures using the photo as our inspiration.

“I enjoyed using the chalks – it was very messy”   EC
“It was lots of fun”  LM
“Nobody knew the picture was taken from our school”  AD

Maths
This week we have started learning about quarter past, half past and quarter to times.  We are using analogue and digital clocks. We have also been learning to use the mathematical symbols > greater than, < less than, and = equals.  We are also practising rounding numbers to the nearest 10.

Burns Assembly
Today we had  Burns Assembly in school.  We all took part in a Scottish style dance.  We wore sashes and we looked very smart.

Reading & Writing
We have been reading and writing with our class pet dogs this week.  We have been writing stories about our pets, and what they might get up to when we are not in class.

“It’s always more fun to read with a dog”   “It was fun writing about the dogs”
We all enjoy reading to our pet dogs, but we don’t quite have enough for one each yet.  If you have any toy dogs you no longer need and would be willing to donate to our class,  please send them into school.   They will be looked after, and read to often.

A Smelly and Tasty week in Primary 3

We have been very busy using our senses this week.  We had a smelly quiz where we were trying to guess what things were, just from their smell.  We also had a tasting session, and we were focusing on whether the tastes were sweet, sour, salty or bitter.  We found it quite hard.

We were also trying our hand at writing sensory poems.  It was quite difficult as we were trying to include each of the 5 senses.  It looks like, it smells like, it sounds like, it tastes like, it feels like.

We are continuing to work in maths on rounding to the nearest ten.  This week we also had a visit from the Transport Police, reminding us to stay away from the railway.

A Busy Start to 2019 for Primary 3

We are all happy to see everyone back in class after the holiday.  We have been very busy this week.

We have been learning about place value and we use thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.  We had fun making different number using the year 2019.  The biggest number we made was 9210 and the smallest number we made was 129.  We have been practising working with big numbers and sorting them into order.

We have been reading new books, writing thank you letters to Santa and we have been learning to take notes.  We have also been exploring our sense of touch and we have had fun using a feely bag.

P3 prepare for Christmas

This week Primary 3 have been very busy preparing for Christmas.

We have been practising our scissor skills cutting and folding paper to make lovely peace doves.

We have been working on cutting along a straight line to make folded trees.
We also worked with our partners to draw around each others hands, then we cut out the hand shape.  Together we have put all our hands together to make a lovely tree.

We have been making paper hats and writing funny jokes to put into our handmade Christmas crackers.

We even had time on Wednesday for our Christmas party.  Everyone was dressed in lovely party clothes.  We had games, dancing and party food.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas from Primary 3.

P3 prepare for the Christmas Fair

Christmas Fair Week.
We have been busy all week preparing for the Christmas Fair on Friday.  We have made some posters to advertise the event.  They are on display all around the school and on some of the windows.

Reindeer Brooches

We have had fun decorating little wooden reindeer and adding some sparkle.  We have added a pin so they can be worn.  We think they look great.

 Yule Log Table Decorations

We have been working hard to create unique wooden yule log table decorations.  Every one has helped, and each yule log is different.

Christmas Tree Decorations

We have been adding sparkle to make decorations for the Christmas tree.  Our classroom is very glittery now.

We have also been doing Christmas Fair maths this week.

At the fair on Friday, we will have a guess the teddy’s birthday competition – if you guess his birthday correctly he’s yours. too.
We hope you will come and see our table at the fair.

P3 Try Coding in ICT

This week we have started to learn about coding in ICT.  We were programming simple instructions to get the angry bird to go and get the pig.  “It was amazing.”   “It was awesome”.  Everyone was able to work at their own pace and we all had fun.

Maths
We have been learning about friendly numbers, such as 10 or 5 and we have been using them in our number talks to help us to  add 2 digit numbers.  We also learned to play a new game.

Road Safety Week
It is Road Safety Week this week, and we have been looking at the Green Cross Code and writing about how to cross the road safely.  We were sequencing instructions in the correct order.

As part of our senses topic, we have been focusing on the sense of hearing this week.  We have been on outdoor and indoor sound walks and we even managed to play sound bingo.

Our Senses – P3

We are learning about our senses, and this week we have been focusing on the sense of sight.  In writing we tried closing our eyes and used our imaginations to think about what we might see out of the window.  It was actually dull and raining out of our classroom window at the time, but we managed to think about seeing lovely views out of our pretend windows.
