P3 Learn about measuring

This week, we have decided to give our classroom a makeover.  We have been learning to measure and calculate how much space there is in our library.  We would really like some more seating so we are all sitting comfortably there.  We would like 2 small benches.  We have measured the space available, and we have found some we like, and then we checked that they would fit.

Primary 3 are learning to use ICT

This week has been another very busy week.  The children have been learning to use ICT to present information.  They have collaborated to share their ideas about what they have been learning this week, and have written up their usual reflection sheet.

They are now extending their learning to incorporate ICT to share their ideas with a wider audience.  They have been working with a partner to type up their ideas.  We hope you enjoy reading their work.

Another busy week in Primary 3

We have been working hard all week.
In language, we are learning the ‘oi’, ‘ea’ or ‘sh’ sounds.  We have been making our words using magnetic letters, and we are trying to spot these words in our reading texts.

We have been writing reports about the 50th birthday celebration last week.

In our topic work, Barnaby bear has finished his travels in Scotland.  We had the opportunity to look at some artwork by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.  We tried making our own pictures of roses in the Mackintosh style.  In PE we have been working on linking some dance steps together to make a dance in the style of a Scottish Country Dance.  We are having great fun!

In maths, we have been learning to count forwards and backwards in 10’s.  We don’t always start on a 10 number – sometimes we try 3,13,23,33.  It is a challenge when we cross over 100, but we are practising every day.  In money, we have been adding up coins, and beginning to calculate change.

Celebrations in P3

Our school celebrated it’s 50th birthday today.  Classes had been given a decade to focus on for the birthday celebrations.  We have been learning all about the 1990’s.  We learned about the channel tunnel which opened in 1994.  We had a team working challenge – to create a map to help us recognise where the channel tunnel is.

On Tuesday, we were learning about keeping safe on bonfire night.  We made posters to remind us, and we had a visit from firefighter Steel.  He talked to us about how to keep ourselves and others safe.  We even had a chance to try on his helmet – it was very heavy.  Thank you Mr Steel for coming into our class to see us.

Today we had a very busy classroom with lots visitors joining in our activities.  As the first Harry Potter book was published in 1997, we were making magical Harry Potter wands.
We also made our own versions of Mr Potato Head from the original Toy Story film which was also released in 1996.
We used some cardboard tubes, some fabric and a train set for problem solving.  Our aim was to set up the train tracks through the ‘tunnel’.
We also set up a mini class museum with some items from the 1990’s.

We all enjoyed our visit to the ice-cream van after break time  – it was great!
Thank you to everyone who came along to support us today.  We had a lovely time.

P3 Topic – Scotland focus

This week Barnaby Bear is in Scotland.  We are learning all about Scotland.   On Tuesday, we made porridge, and we all had the opportunity to taste the porridge when it was ready.   In our writing, we have been learning how to write instructions, and check we have sequenced each thing in the right order.  We have all written instructions for making porridge.

We have been exploring the Scottish flag, and have used different techniques including using wax crayons and water colours to create a wax resist effect.  We have also tried used a range of different textured papers to create flags making a collage effect.

We have also tried some Scottish dancing.  It was great fun!

This week Primary 3 have a new topic

We had an exciting reveal about our new topic.  A suitcase and a bear with a map arrived in our class. The bear is called Barnaby and we are going to learn about our own country and perhaps some different countries with him.  This week, we have been learning about Scotland, and we can now locate it on a world map.

We have started to learn more about money.  Today was a non-uniform day and we were collecting coins for charity.  (Roman)  First, we sorted all our coins and grouped the same kinds together.  We had £1’s, 50p’s, 20p’s and 10p’s.  Then we added each type of coin up.  Last we added all the totals up and we had £11.10 altogether. (Erin)

On Wednesday, we went for a walk outside to the field and we collected some leaves (Gracie).  The leaves are falling from the trees now that it is Autumn.  When we came inside we wrote acrostic poems about leaves. (Joseph)
