Today in P5/6 we used concrete materials and pictures to compare fractions. This helped us discover if the fractions were greater, smaller or equal.

In literacy we used our knowledge of our Highland Clearance topic to create an informational text for others to read. We used our topic wall for reminders of facts we have learned over the past few weeks.
We spent some time outdoors this week team building. Pupil’s worked together on several different tasks. They needed to communicate and negotiate in order to be successful.
In P5/6 we are learning about equivalent fractions.
Today we made posters to show our understanding of them!
We had to choose from 3 fractions to make a poster – 1/2, 1/3 or 1/5.
Â
We had to think about the different patterns made with the numerator and denominator when coming up with equivalent fractions.

On Wednesday P5 took part in the cluster Basketball Festival at DCHS. All pupils showed great team work and super sportsmanship. They also showed fantastic improvement in their basketball skills.
Many thanks to all our adult helpers who accompanied us to the festival.
Here are our proud players with their certificate.
In literacy we have been looking at character descriptions. Today Miss Aikman challenged us to up-level her character’s descriptions using adjectives, similes and metaphors. Our descriptions were pretty impressive!
Well done to Joshua Duncan-Coat from P3/4 for creating the winning Fairtrade poster. Joshua’s poster will be displayed throughout the school to promote Fairtrade products and encourage us all to buy Fairtrade.
On Wednesday we shared our learning with parents, carers, family members and friends. Many thanks to everyone who came along – there was an amazing atmosphere. It was great to see pupils so enthusiastic about their learning and able to discuss it with all the adults who came along to visit.
In maths we explored fractions using numicon. Pupils worked in groups to show the different ways to represent a fraction.
This led to lots of rich discussion around the relationship between multiplication, division and fractions. We also discovered which numbers could not be used to represent certain fractions and discussed the reasons why.
