On Friday the 8th of November, Deans celebrated its 50th birthday. We had a fantastic fun filled morning. The children and I welcomed a record number of visitors to our classroom. In Primary 1, we demonstrated how children learn in 2019 through actively investigating, collaborating, discussing and sharing strategies. Thank you so much for your support and in case you were unable to attend here a few pictures of some of the activities.
On Tuesday we celebrated Armistice Day by observing the 2 minute silence and making poppies.
On Wednesday afternoon we decided to take our learning outside. We have been learning some new tricky words and played a game of word splat.
Our new sound this week is a. Now that we have a vowel sound we can begin to blend and segment words. We have been using our word mats to create words and change the beginning sound to make new ones.
Lastly we had a math’s challenge. It was really tricky but there was a lot of valuable discussion around the problem, such as “how many different ways are there to make 5” “can we use concrete materials (red and green cubes) to help us”
Thank you for your continued support especially with reading and recognizing tricky words. Have a lovely weekend.
