This Week in P3

Literacy

In writing this week, we were beginning to learning about the recount genre. We looked at the structure and then we studied an example of a recount piece. Then, we collaborated in small groups to create a recount of our first day in primary 3.

 

During reading, we were focusing on our predicting skills. Before we read the book, we predicted what we thought might happen and then explained our predictions.

 

Numeracy

This week, we continue to develop our place value skills. We were looking at ones, tens and hundreds. We were using the Dienes materials to help us identify the ones, tens and hundreds.

In our place value house, we can only have one digit per column. The smallest number in the column is 0 and the largest number is 9.

 

IDL

In science this week, we continued to develop our scientific vocabulary. We were identifying the advantages and disadvantages of materials. We were given the same object in 3 different materials and we had to state the pros and cons of each.

 

Health and Wellbeing

In P.E. this week, we started gymnastics. We were learning to create movement patterns and balances. We worked at different stations to develop our skills.

Numeracy

We have been learning about place value this week.

Alexis – I am proud of my maths.

Literacy

This week we practised our prediction skills. Based on evidence from the text so far we acted out what we thought might happen next in our class novel.

We also developed our ability to ask open-ended questions when interviewing a character.

Finally in writing this week we discovered the different sections to writing a recount and made paper chains representing these different parts which are:

Health

We have been learning to play basketball.

Emily – I was surprised that I like basketball.

Bella – I am getting better at dribbling.

Kyle – I enjoyed playing the basketball version of piggy in the middle.

Jaxson – I enjoyed the dribbling game when you had to protect your ball and keep possession.

Health/Art

Emily – I am proud of my silhouette drawing. It turned out better than I thought.

We included information about what is important to us in our silhouette drawing.

P4 Class

MM- This week we learnt about how to do a recount writing.  The purpose is to retell an event. We started writing about Our First Day Back at School.

DN- We learnt place value.  I know that I need 10 1000s to make 10,000.

SA- I learned using clues on the front cover of a book to make a prediction of the story.

HK- In PE, we were learning to bounce the ball on a racket without dropping it.
