Weekly Update From Primary 1

We have had a great second week in Primary One. All the children have settled really well, so please don’t worry about them. Some pictures and information below  of the things the children have been getting up to this week. They have really enjoyed getting to know their buddies and this week the buddies helped out in the playground and came into class to help the children decorate their very own Elmer and to think about what makes them special. Some pictures below-

Literacy –

The children have been practising writing their names in different ways and developing their fine motor skills.

They have also been demonstrating some super cutting skill.

The children have been using their prediction skills when being read to. They have enjoyed all the stories and have been able to make lots of sensible predictions based on the information from the story.

Numeracy-

In number the children have been practising their forward and backward counting skills, ordering numbers and counting simple collections. They have also enjoyed playing number games with their friends.

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the activities that the children have enjoyed this week. Have a lovely weekend and I shall update the blog again next week.

What a busy week we have had!

This week, we began ELF. During ELF, we work in group rotations around different stations completing tasks that help our literacy learning. This week, some of our tasks included making our names from playdough, working on our fine motor control and learning how to make a prediction. The Primary 2s were working so hard with Mrs Morrison on their spelling that we didn’t have a chance to take some pictures!

During Numeracy, we have been working on forwards and backwards number sequences. All of the children are loving practising this and we have a super catchy song to help us learn! Here is the link if you would like to listen at home.

The Primary 1s have also been learning all about the number 1 and number 2. We have been working on our formation of the numbers, as well as understanding how the numbers are made. Here are some photos of us finding things around the classroom that have 2 parts.

We also had the chance to work with our buddies to create an Elmer who is proud to be different. We had a discussion about what makes us special and how being unique is great!

We can’t wait for another fabulous week of learning next week in Primary 2/1!

Primary 4/3 Learning Highlights

What an unexpectedly sunny week we have had. Luckily we have been able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine for gym this week. We have really enjoyed playing a range of team building games and learning all about what it means to be a team player.

This week we have started to learn about a new genre in Writing. This is called Recount, where we are learning to retell and evaluate past events and experiences. This week we have been writing about ‘Our First Day In Primary 4/3′. We examined an example text and looked at all the different parts that make up a recount text. Mrs Stevenson challenged us to identify and name all the different parts of the text and label and colour code an example. We really enjoyed working with a partner to do this.

After examining the structure of the text we looked at some of the language that we could use in our own writing. We explored past tense verbs and time ordering words.

After devising a plan for our work, the next day we had a go at putting our learning into practise and writing our recount. We did a pretty good job! Check out some of our pieces below.

We are taking our time to think about and devise our class charter. One activity we did this week was to think about our own most important value. We shared with each other what we thought was an important quality to possess. As a class we designed a class flag using all of our key values. It is proudly on display in our classroom and we feel it represents Primary 4/3 very well. One of the most common values that appears on our flag is ‘kindness’.

We hope you enjoyed a little snapshot of our week in Primary 4/3. We hope everyone has a lovely, sunny weekend.
