Terrific Thursday! Primary 1/2 18.06.20

Good Morning Everyone!

Hi Boys and Girls, I hope you all had lots of fun on Sports day and of course taking part in all the wonderful Wellbeing Wednesday activities. You can keep working through your new packs of home learning but for today, let’s continue with our virtual class trip to Disney.

Disney Day Two

Health and Wellbeing

Safety Rules

Look at the video of Disney Land. Can you think of any rules or things that you would need to do to keep safe at the park? Think about what you should do on rides, who you would speak to and any extra rules that you can think of.

Extension/P2: Create a safety poster to display the rules. Remember to include a key message making your poster, bright, colourful and eye-catching.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyZfIlxwsfI

Learning Intention: I am learning to identify ways to keep myself safe.

Success Criteria:

  • P1: I can explain ways that I can keep myself safe

P2: I can explain how to keep myself and others safe. I can display my ideas in an effective way

Numeracy

Look at the map of Disney Land. Can you find your way through the map? Can you remember why we need maps, what are some of the key features of a map?

Here are your instructions….

1 Start at the Entrance and go to Donald’s house boat.

2 Start at the log flume and go to the rollercoaster.

3 Start at the pond and go to the Frozen ride.

P2 Challenge: Can you give detailed directions on how to get from each place to the next. For example, “Turn left then go straight until you get to the pond”.

Learning Intention: I am learning to read a map and give directions.

Success Criteria:

  • P1: I can use a simple map.

P2: I can give detailed directions on how to get somewhere

Writing

Watch the Monsters Inc ride clip, it is a 360 degree experience so you can drag the screen to see all around you.

Design your own monster and record yourself describing them (or you can write them down). Are they kind, scary, fluffy, angry? Can you think of any other ways to describe them? Remember these describing words are called adjectives.

Challenge/P2 – Create a story where your monster is the main character.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDNUXa5sIHU

Learning Intention: I am learning to describe a character.

Success Criteria:

P1: I can create a character. I can describe the qualities of a character.

P2: I can write a story with a main character.

Don’t forget all those important things that a good writer does… letters on the line, full stops, capital letters…oh the list goes on… remind your adult what we do in class!

IDL

Weather

Disney Land is in Orlando in America.

Find out what the weather is like in Orlando today. Is it sunny, cloudy or windy? What is the temperature?

You can use the BBC weather website to help you find this information.

Extension: What is the weather and temperature here? Is it hotter or colder?

P2 Extension: How many degrees hotter/colder is Orlando than Livingston today?

Learning Intention: I am learning to identify and compare the weather in various places.

Success Criteria:

P1: I can identify the weather. I understand the weather is different around the world.

P2: I can find out the temperature in various parts of the world. I can compare temperatures.

Reading

Listen to ‘Under the Sea’.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC_mV1IpjWA

P1: Why does Sebastian think it is better to live under the sea? Record yourself explaining 2 reasons from the song.

P2: You could identify 2 reasons as above and then also think about why it might not be better to live on land. You could create your own short song/verse to convince Sebastian if you wish!

Learning Intention: I am learning to listen for understanding.

Success Criteria:

P1: I can listen carefully. I can recall information that I have heard.

P2: I can recall information that I have heard. I can question what I have heard – do I agree? Is that really best?

That’s all for today boys and girls, I hope you have had fun on Day Two of our Disney Adventure. Mrs Lockhart will be posting tomorrow on the blog and I will be back here on Monday for some more Disney fun! Have a great weekend, miss you all!

Mrs Stevenson

P.3 Thursday 18.6.20

Hello boys and girls, I hope everyone has had a good week. I heard there was a brilliant Deans Primary Virtual Sports Day. Well done everyone who took part.

Let’s start with some classical music. If you go to 1 hour 36 minutes there is music from the composer Mozart that I think you would like.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ0NM_t5P0o#action

Art Work

I thought you might like to try this fab idea.

Bubble Painting

What you will need –

  • paint
  • drinking straws
  • washing up liquid
  • paper

First of all decide which paint colours you are going to use and put about a tablespoon of each colour in a different cup. Then add a squirt of washing up liquid to each cup and fill the cup 3/4 full with water and stir well.

Now use your straws to blow the air into your mixture to create the bubbles. Once they are ready to overflow from your cup, place a piece of paper on top and watch how it prints the bubble pattern onto it.

You can then blow back into your paint to create more bubbles and make as many pictures as you want. If they aren’t dark enough just add more paint as you go along.

If you have any bubbles at home you could even use the blowers to dip into your paint and blow some paint bubbles onto your paper.

Drama

Listen to the story of The Gruffalo

https://youtu.be/s8sUPpPc8Ws?t=1

Use your Imagination

Now I would like you to travel around your garden as different animals moving through the forest. As well as the main characters – the mouse, fox, owl and snake – there are others that appear in drawings including a frog, butterfly, beetle, woodpecker, kingfisher, dragonfly, squirrel and snail. Choose an animal and get into role.

You should decide what your animal is doing – looking for food or making a home, for example.

What would you do if you heard the Gruffalo coming. Would you lie down, stand still or hide in different parts of the woods? When the Gruffalo has gone you can check to see if the coast is clear and then carry on with your activities.

Ask someone to try and guess which animal you are.

Literacy

More about adjectives! If you want to remind yourself about adjectives have another look at the following powerpoint which shows how useful adjectives are in descriptions.

Now think about The Gruffulo. Draw the gruffalo and then write lots of appropriate adjectives all around your drawing.

POWERPOINTt-l-4876-adjectives-powerpoint-_ver_1

 Maths

Let’s have some Maths fun and play this cool maths game.

Health & Well Being

Think back to The Gruffalo story and the owl character in particular. Complete the worksheet. You will need to put yourself in the owl’s shoes. Then think how you might have acted.

Owl thoughts

Have a lovely week-end when it comes.

Primary 3 – Tuesday 16th June

Hello everybody! Remember to keep working through your packs of learning.

Remember, today is……..

Take a look at our Virtual Sports Day activities!!

Literacy

Watch Newsround – note down any key things you have found out today to share with someone at home.

Have a check in with everyone at home – ask how everyone is and how they are feeling today. Share how you are and how you are feeling too.

Today we are going to continue to have a look at some ALLITERATIONAlliteration is when words start with the same sound: For example, Sammy the slippery snake came sliding. Alliteration is used in both written and spoken English. You can find examples in poetry, advertising and events commentary. It is often used in newspaper headlines to grab the reader’s attention.

Have a look at the sheet below which has loads of ALLITERATION ideas. Use these to create some silly sentences. For example:

‘The elephant ate eggs with the elf whilst he sealed the envelopes.’

T-L-6184-Alliteration-Ideas-Sheet – FOR TUES 16TH JUNE

Writing – Look at some cereal boxes. They make them eye-catching so that you want to pick them. Design a new label for a cereal box. What eye-catching information will you add? Can you use an exclamation mark? I’ve included some examples below:

Create a Class Survival Book – Create a page for a book that can be put together in the new term to tell the next class how things work in Primary 3 – what things do you do and learn? What daily jobs do you have? What are the rewards and sanctions in class?

This is Miss Taylor’s writing task this week:

t-t-29006-end-of-the-year-writing-activity-sheet_ver_4

Numeracy
