Numeracy

Today, we are going to practise giving change. We need to give change when we pay too much for an item. For example, if an item costs 60p and we give the shop keeper £1, we should get 40p change. Think about your number bonds when working out the problems! Try each of the questions below and use the hundred square to help you if you need it.

Science

Here is this week’s science experiment! Remember to carry out the experiment safely and with the help of an adult. Send us some pictures of you completing the experiment to wldeans-ps@westlothian.org.uk.

Special Activity

Today’s special activity is to make a set of binoculars! Look through your binoculars and see what you can see!

You will need:

  • 2 cardboard tubes (toilet roll tubes would be perfect)
  • Paint
  • A paintbrush
  • Masking tape
  • Materials for decoration

Method:

  • Paint both of your cardboard tubes any colour that you like.
  • Once dry, use masking tape to tape your tubes together.
  • Use any extra materials to decorate your binoculars.
  • Peer through your binoculars and see what you can see!

Have a great day everyone and enjoy the sunshine! Remember, tomorrow is Wellbeing Wednesday and you can collect your new packs of learning from school. I’ll be back on Thursday!

P5/6 Tuesday 2nd June

When using Teams please try not to click on “Start a new conversation” each time. Please click on “Reply”, as it makes things in there much easier to find. Thanks

Maths: Finish money first and then move onto measure. I think all 4 parts of TJay 2a Chapter 13 (a,b,c and d) are useful. This will help support your work on decimals to 3 places. If you have finished these you could do TJay 2a revision work on decimals: Chapters 5 and 7

  TJay 1b TJay 2a TJay 2b
Money Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 7
Measure Chapter 15 Chapter 13a,b,c and d Chapter 13

Spelling activity: choose a list of Fry’s words that is appropriate for yourself. Create a Word document with a table of 2 columns and 25 rows. Write your chosen 25 words in the first column. Using a dictionary, on-line or book, put a definition of the word in the second column next to it. I have created an example to support you if you are not sure how to do this. I have also created a dedicated folder in “Files” for this work. Please include your name as part of the file name to differentiate it from the others. Here is a link https://hotpot.uvic.ca/ to where you can download the program and here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3pMWXqeqdo is a tutorial on how to use one of the applications in it. I think we could also use it for maths, possibly to help teach some of the children in the lower school, and maybe set some more challenging activities for your classmates. Some of you have successfully published your own – well done! If you haven’t tried these yet, please do, as they can be a fun way to learn.

Spanish / Art activity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlpET4GWzus&feature=youtu.be

I also don’t think anyone has finished “Education City”.

Have you done all of Mrs Lockharts work?

I have reduced the amount of work that I am posting: I am trying to make it more focused. Please let me know any thoughts.

Take care!

Primary 3 – Monday 1st June

Good morning Primary 3! Hope you are all well and had a fun weekend. I can’t believe that is us now in June already!! Remember to look at what you have in your packs to complete. Below are some other tasks you could try too.

Numeracy

We are going to continue to look at Doubling Numbers today. Have a look at these videos, see if you can work along with the lady in the first video and try some of your own examples too using the techniques she uses:

Pick your own numbers to partition like the examples in the second clip:

Literacy

Continue to read as often as you can! Remember you can access books like the Oxford Reading Tree ones from: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

If you click the Pink icon at the top right that says ‘My Class Login’ and enter Primary 3 Deans as the username and Mrs Hillan as the password then you can access these if you haven’t set up your own account.

Spelling – You have a list of spelling words included in your pack – remember to practise these regularly and use the spelling task cards to help! You can find the cards here if you have misplaced yours – http://www.blessedbeyondadoubt.com/spell-cards-printable/ – any problems accessing these email the school and I will help!

You could also try these games to help you learn and spell new tricky words:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/5-7-years/words-and-spelling

Write a ‘thank you’ letter to the people who collect your rubbish and recycling.

-What could you include in your letter? Can you think of any questions you could ask about recycling or where the rubbish goes? Perhaps you could leave this letter for them the next time they collect your bins – remember to tell them what a good job they are doing and thank them for all their hard work during this difficult time.

Health

Let’s continue our healthy eating work.

  1. Complete the Healthy Eating I Spy sheet by circling all the healthy foods.
  2. Then complete your ideal healthy lunch box using the worksheet provided.
  3. Finally you could set up a healthy eating challenge – lay out a selection of small portions of healthy foods for people in your family to taste (make sure they cover their eyes) and see which ones they guess correctly.

I spy – week beg 1st June

Healthy Eating Lunch Activity – week beg 1st June

IDL

Look at some images of Scotland such as the Grampian Mountains, Loch Ness, thistles etc. Symbols such as thistles are used to represent countries. Find out about different animal species found in Scotland – draw some of these giving some information on each below or around them.

Research the mysterious Loch Ness Monster and write a newspaper report after a ‘sighting’.

Have a lovely day and enjoy the sunshine! Remember to wear sun cream!!!!
