Primary 7 have enjoyed a busy few weeks of settling into routines and taking on the responsibilities that being the oldest in school brings!
We have buddies in Primary 1 and have enjoyed helping them in their first few days to settle into Deans Primary School and since then have met for Buddy lunches, paired reading sessions and Buddy playtimes.
We are looking forward to our JOINT BUDDY ASSEMBLY on FRIDAY 28th SEPTEMBER, when we will introduce our Buddies to the rest of the school.
Our class novel this term is “The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tiler” and we have already learnt about the main characters, discussed the plot and predicted what might happen next, at various cliffhanger moments.
Last week we participated in various active Maths and Numeracy challenges for Scottish Maths week, where we had to work collaboratively to solve puzzles and use various maths skills throughout. Our main focus has been to improve speed and efficiency at recalling our tables facts. We have been using the Sumdog programme too and were keen to collect more coins!
To develop our Thinking Skills we have regularly played 20 questions. From this we realised that many of our class have a keen interest in animals, but did not know how to categorise them in order to answer our questions. As a result, we decided that learning about classification would be useful! We have now looked at Vertebrates and Invertebrates and how we classify creatures from scorpions to polar bears!
Prefect interviews took place on Friday morning and there was a great response! There are 10 prefects to be appointed and it comes with responsibilities and priviledges! There were lots of nervous preparations taking place and we look forward to hearing the results!
We are very much looking forward to swimming sessions, which begin this Thursday, and are part of the transition programme for Deans Community High School. We will be taught by teachers that we may be working with when we start First year at Secondary.
