Natural Disasters in P6/5

011 012 013 014 023 028

P6/5 have been learning about different types of natural disaster. They were keen to find out more about volcanoes and completed many challenges finding out about where volcanoes are and researching the city of Pompeii after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pupils worked in groups to create their own papier mache volcanoes. We then took them outside and simulated eruptions using coke and mentos. Everyone had a lot of fun but it was a bit sticky!

P7- The Sun is out- Time for the Solar power circuit challenge

The sun was shining bright on Boghall this week. It was time for the solar power circuit challenge. Pupils were given a box of materials and set the challenge to build a circuit using solar energy to make the propellor and buzzer work. We observed and recorded what we did and shared our findings and conclusions with the class.

People who help us by p1

For the last few weeks, primary 1 have been visited by a number of people talking about their jobs. First we met Mrs Hepburn who is a dental nurse and she told us all about how to look after our teeth and what her job involves. It was so interesting!IMG_3233 Mrs HepburnThe week after we had a visit from Chloe’s mum who is a paramedic. She and another paramedic showed us all the different tools they use, took some of our heart beats and let us try on some of their outfits. They even brought in an ambulance! It was so much fun and we found out loads!

We were then lucky enough to have a visit from Oliver’s dad who is a policeman. He came in and told us about his job as part of the traffic police. It was amazing to hear about what he does and see the flashing lights on the car! IMG_3329

Last week we had a visit from Ethan’s mum who is a radiographer. It was so cool to see all the bones on some of the x-rays she brought along! It is so clever that a big camera can see through your skin and into your bones! We learned we have 206 bones in our body! WOW!

Thank you all so much for giving us some of your time! We really appreciate it! From P1a and p1b.

Pupils from P3 and P4/3 ran a glow meet broadcast to the whole school via glow and pupils from P3-P7 took part in a Question and answer session with our visitors. Our visitors also got to see our chicks (There are 7 and counting!) Blair and Katie from P7 also shared how they used digital technology in their Civil Rights Class talks.

Our visitors were interested and very impressed with what we have been doing and will be sharing what they saw on the digiweek blog. Log in to glow to find out more.

Antonine Guard Visits P3 and P4/3

P3 and P4/3 had a really exciting day yesterday. They had a visit from an Antonine Guard. He came dressed in full Roman uniform and told the pupils all about the Roman army. He showed the different weapons and armour that were used and some pupils had the chance to try and get past the Roman shield. Each child had a sword and shield and they practised marching and attacking in different formations. Then all pupils had the chance to try on chain mail armour, helmets and Roman army boots. They all had a fantastic time!

Roman Shields and Helmets in P3 and P4/3

013 014 012

002P3 and P4/3 have been extremely busy this week making equipment for Roman soldiers. They learned about the differences between Celts and Romans then had to design their own shields. The shields had to use Roman colours, have arrows, a centre gold piece to protect their hands and be symmetrical. Then we used silver and gold to create our own Roman soldier helmets.

Netball Festival

The Boghall Primary netball team participated in their first festival of the year this week. It was held in Boghall and teams from St Marys, Balbardie and Simpson came along. All players really enjoyed the afternoon and Boghall came third. The points will be carried over to the next festival, held at Simpson Primary in February.

Curriculum Night Thursday 13th November

Thanks to all those who attended the recent evening.  Presentations and examples of pupil’s work  were shared.

The main themes of the evening were ‘Growth and Fixed Mindsets’ based on the work of Carol Dweck and ‘Mild / Spicy and Hot’ – our differentiated tasks. We hope this will help parents by giving information on what you can do to help your child make  maximum progress in everything.

Freya’s mum (Freya is in P3) won the the £20 voucher for Boghall Butchers and 4 other families got vouchers for lesser amounts also as a ‘thanks for attending’ prize.

Thanks to all who turned out on such a dreary night and well done to the boys and girls who attended and behaved so well !
