P6 three stars and a wish

This week we have enjoyed starting Literacy Circles especially getting our new books and deciding homework penalties! We have made our class charter  – after a vote Pokemon won! We have agreed on what Miss Potter will do and what we will do in our class to ensure we all get our rights.

Challenge Friday

All classes from P5 to P7 are taking part in Challenge Friday this year. They compete in their classes to complete different problem solving challenges each week. There is then a winning team from each class and an overall winner each week. Points are being kept and a league table is displayed with the winning points each week. Challenges so far have included creating a tower with spaghetti and marshmallows, building a strong bridge from newspaper and paper clips and creating a cup pyramid using only a ‘cup mover’.

Mrs Williamson’s maths group were learning about kilograms in maths this week. They were introduced to balance scales and the units kg and g. Their challenge was to find objects in the classroom which weighed exactly 1kg. There weren’t many objects which weighed exactly 1kg so they had to improvise with lots of lighter objects grouped together.
