P7 and 6’s Business Enterprise off to a flying start!

P7 and 6’s are extremely excited to start their  Business Enterprise. This will be running until early December. So far the children have been refreshing their knowledge of the difference between a skill and quality and discussing which ones in particular will be vital to run a successful business.

So far all pupils have been working hard, organising their business groups, choosing a business name and creating a company logo. We also created these logos online and will share with you soon.

On Monday we were lucky enough to have four former pupils visit us from Bathgate Academy. They gave us some great advice and answered our many questions! We loved having them visit us and wish we could have them help every week.

Attached is an information page for any parents looking for more information on how the Business Enterprise works. business-enterprise-information

Dragons Den in P7/6

Primary 7/6 have been working hard learning about different inventors and how their discoveries have changed society in some way.

They were then sent a challenge to design and create their own invention! We had lots of creative ideas from glasses with wipers to our own personal robots! The children worked hard in their groups to write a persuasive sales pitch and then presented their ideas, along with their prototypes, to P7.

P7 asked them lots of interesting questions, such as; the manufacturing cost of their product and what their unique selling point was. P7/6 coped well under pressure and managed to answer their questions.

P7 had to choose which business they would invest in and the winning business was ‘Charged’ – a mobile phone charger that has a percentage calculator and stops producing electricity when your device is fully charged. Rhianna and Toni presented with confidence and professionalism. Our runners up was the Solar panel phone created by Ben W, Adam S and Declan.

Well done to all involved!

Sports Relief

We had lots of fun today raising money for Sports Relief and it was a massive success! We raised a whopping £342!  There were lots of different sporty activities in the hall including; beat the goalie, score a basket, hoopla and a hula hoop competition. The winner was Jenna-Leigh who lasted over 9 minutes!

Every class also took part in a ‘sporty’ themed Challenge Friday. Some classes played the ‘over and under’ game to see who could make the most passes in 2 minutes. Others tried to throw bean bags into different sized hoops.

Thank you to the Pupil Council for helping organise today’s events and spending their time helping others at the stalls. Also thanks to everyone for their kind donations. The money raised has gone to an excellent cause.

P6 at the Euroquiz

Four Primary 6s were lucky enough to go to the West Lothian heat of the Euroquiz. There were 4 very challenging rounds – geography, language, European Union and general knowedge/ culture/sport. All four pupils did a great job and have definitely learned something new! They showed commitment and determination by revising topics in their own time this week. You should all be very proud!

P7 and P7/6 Cooking

As part of our World War Two theme, Primary 7 and Primary 7/6 made delicious apple crumble. We have been learning about Rationing and how certain foods were only available in small quantities. We also found out that many people had allotments to grow their own fruit and vegetables. Each class had 45 minutes to make 4 apple crumbles. There was lots of team work involved. Miss Armstrong was very impressed! Here are some pictures of us in action..
