We have had a great week! We really enjoyed Sports Day on Wednesday. Everyone tried really hard at all the events and had great fun in the sun! Well done to Ella, Olivia and Geo for winning medals.

The Decahedrons have been learning about BODMAS and expressing equations this week. We have found it a bit confusing at first but are making good progress! The Hexagons and Pentagons have been learning to add and subtract decimals. They have worked really hard and are now ready to multiply and divide decimal fractions.

We had a circle time this week to discuss our feelings about transition. There are a mixture of emotions in the class. Some people are excited and some people are quite nervous. Most of us are going to Bathgate Academy next week and we hope we will have a brilliant time. We will let you know how we got on during our transition visits. Wish us luck.

Hopefully we see lots of people at the procession tomorrow. Have a great long weekend.

Sports Day in Classes M O and G

Yeah! we were delighted that the sun shone on Wednesday so we could have our sports day. Although the sun made it tiring we all tried hard in the races. The adults found it very tricky to capture us as we ran because we were running so fast.

Shea enjoyed trying to balance egg for the egg and spoon race.

Dylan tried hard to keep running fast in the sprint race.

Erin, Yoile, Logan, Aiden, Adam and Jayden found the sack race a challenge but enjoyed trying to keep inside the sack as they moved!

David, Cameron and Joe all had a few great ideas to keep the egg on the spoon steady for the race.

Cody has been practicing in the lead up to sports day and made sure he was warmed up and ready to go.

Charlie was determinded to beat Miss Garland in the sack race!

Caitlin and Gabriel loved posing to show off our medals!

Steam Train Journey

On Tuesday some of the pupils from Classes M and O went to the Bo’ness Steam Railway to find out more about steam power and trains. The steam train was very different to the usual electric or diesel trains. It was very smelly and and moved slower.

In the museam we learned about how steam work, who invented them and where. We even had a go at driving a steam train and working the signal box. It’s a very tricky and tiring job.

we would highly recommend the Bo’ness Steam Railway for a family day out!

Eat Well, Live Well

Recently in P6B, we have been learning how to maintain a balanced, healthy diet. We have used the Eatwell Plate and the Food Pyramid to help us learn about different food groups and how much we should be eating of each type daily.

We enjoyed creating our own meals using the plate and pyramid as a guide. We also explored our own diet by identifying what and how much we eat of each food type.

Luca – ‘I’ve learned that you should have 1 portion of protein as part of a meal and that carbohydrates give you energy’.

Fiona – I enjoyed learning about the importance of food, I know that you should have a least 5 portions of fruit and vegetable every day’.

Skye – I didn’t know before that pasta is a carbohydrate – I thought it was a dairy food! I really enjoyed sorting the foods out by type’.

Jack – I used to think we should eat lots of dairy but now I know that ideally we should have just 3-4 portions each day’.

Hopefully our new knowledge will allow us to make healthy, responsible choices about food and help us to maintain a healthy diet.

P6a 26.5.17

Ty: I enjoyed RME this week. We were learning about forgiveness through the parable of ‘The Lost Son’.

Brooklyn: I enjoyed learning about food groups as part of our topic ‘Healthy Living’.

Yasmin: I enjoyed our party to celebrate reaching our Dojo target. We got to enjoy the sun outside.

Noah: I learned about similes and used them to write a poem about the organs.

Rhia: I enjoyed learning about equivalent fractions because it was fun!

We have been busy presenting our posters to the class this week. We we given an organ to research and we shared out findings on location and function of the organ; how to keep it healthy and any interesting facts.

Pupil of the week: Eva

Special Person: Rowan

Wonderful weather

This week has seen us experience a range of weather which has been very useful for our topic!
With Mrs Mackenzie we have learnt to take our pulse. We took our resting pulse and then took our pulse after doing some exercise. Our pulse goes up when we exercise to get blood around our bodies quicker for our muscles to work. For most of us, it took a few minutes to get back to normal which – very healthy.
We are continuing to work on fractions. We are finding fractions of numbers. It helps that we know our tables well!
In P.E. we are continuing to develop our cricket skills, specifically catching from short range and long range. We played a game called caterpillar cricket. It makes us run a LOT!
In Literacy we wrote weather reports thinking about the past tense for weather that has happened and using the future tense for the weather that is to come. We recorded them and some of them are here. Watch out Scotland, if P4b are correct, there’s some real surprises in store!

VIDEOS TO FOLLOW!

In Maths, we are learning to measure in centimetres. We measured ourselves with tape measures. We also had to figure out what units of measurement we would use to measure certain things such as a car or the thickness of a door.
Table of the week – with 690 points

Pupil of the week – Nathan for experimenting successfully with a variety of art media and techniques to demonstrate camouflage in nature.
