The Dragon has been in touch with P1m again……

P1m have received a very exciting parcel.  It was a special delivery of a giant envelope.  Inside the envelope we found a letter and a shoe from the dragon!  He is looking for some help with finding out more about the girl who has lost her shoe.  We read his letter together and realised that it belongs to Cinderella.  We’ve been very busy finding all about her story, so that we can report back to him!

We’ve watched and read her story and re-told the story to each other.  We have learned some of the key words from the story, sequenced her story with picture cards, and written her story on fancy paper.  We’ve made character masks and acted out the story.  We’ve practised our counting skills on her snakes and ladder game and lots and lots more.  Phew, we’ve been soooo busy, I wonder if he’ll come back to visit us again next week?

🙂

An Exciting Visitor!

On Wednesday Miss Henderson told us that she was working in her office when she heard a flapping sound coming from outside.  Next, she saw a dragon fly past her window! To her surprise a black bag dropped down the chimney.  The label was addressed to all the children in P1.  We knew that the dragon was Dennis from Fairyland who had bumped into Goldolocks the week before!  When we opened the bag, we found lots of magic beans! We were excited to take our beans home and plant our very own bean stalks! In class, we have explored the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.  We also worked with our buddies to complete lovely beanstalk crafts!

Happy Planting!

Class 2

The Fun goes on in Class 2. Thank you to everyone who responded to last weeks Class 2 blog.           Hands up if you thought things could not get better. Well this is Balbardie, things can and they often do.      Here at Balbardie we know that learning is fun and sometimes strange. Strange in the nicest possible way.

Babies come to school.

Taxi drivers come to visit.

Monsters come to birthday picnics

Teachers wear onesies (but not every day)

Just for the onesies walk. The onesies walk was to raise awareness of walking

Class 3 explore space!

This week Class 3 have been doing lots of activities related to their Space topic. On Wednesday each of the boys used the internet to do some  research. Cary found out about the moon, Josh researched the sun and Nathan learned more about the Earth.

Facts we discovered:

The moon is the only natural satellite of the earth.

The sun was formed around 4.6 billion years ago.

Earth’s innercore spins in an eastward direction, opposite to the outer core.

We also made a layered poster showing the relationship between days, months and years.

JoshI made the middle bit. It’s all about days. There are 24 hours in a day, 7 days makes a week, and 1 spin of the Earth makes night and day.

The next layer was made by Nathan who recorded some information about months. Cary had the biggest piece of paper and his job was to find out about  years.

We also did some space themed activities at PE. We played a game called Moon Rocks where Mr Jeffries challenged us to collect ‘space rocks’.We had to work  together as a team to do this. We managed to get 3 but unfortunately another one disintegrated and disappeared into a black hole! Hopefully we can try this again next time and get even more rocks!

Onesie Walk

Health and Wellbeing

Class 1 had great fun taking part in the onesie walk!  We all looked great in our pyjamas and onesies! After the onesie walk we had a teddy bears picnic with our friends from class 2 and 3.

Art and Design

This week we had fun creating collage art work with Miss Cameron.  We each chose an animal and created a collage of animal eyes, by tearing, cutting and sticking different materials.  We are going to put the eyes on the inside walls of our dark den and use a torch to find them!

Literacy and English

We had a special visit from Mrs Stewart on Thursday morning.  We enjoyed reading to Mrs Stewart and telling her all about our reading books.   We have been using clues from the pictures and text to predict the hidden words and suggest alternatives that would also make sense.   We were great at the ‘find and colour’ activity.  We looked carefully at the pictures in our book, to make sure that we were using the correct colours.  Mrs Stewart was so impressed with our reading!

Primary 7m

Primary 7m have all been working hard this week. The class worked well in pairs to learn about different states in America, and compare weather and climate. We have been busy writing our autobiographies which brought back some very funny memories! Today, we walked with our p1 buddies for the onsie walk.

Our assembly will be on Friday 4th October – all parents/carers/ families welcome.

Good friends in P3h

We have been discussing what makes a good friend.  These are some of the things we thought made a good friend:

  • help me when I am hurt.
  • help me with my work, when I am stuck.
  • play with me.
  • help me if I am worried.
  • help me sort problems.
  • include me in games.
  • make me feel happy.
  • make me feel part of a team.
  • make me laugh.

We are all going to try and be the best friend we can be!

Lowport and the Onsie Walk

Primary 5d have had a great fortnight! Last week

we went to Lowport in Linlithgow for our school camp.

We had a great time sailing, swimming and exploring the forest at Beecraigs Country Park.

Muddy Monsters
Just another school day !

Ray – I liked the woodland walk and pretending

to be an animal. I camouflaged myself using ferns

and branches.

This week we have had our Onsie Walk . Some of us wore our onsie’s to school.

Catherine – It was really fun and everyone looked so colourful.

P6a Get Creative!

This week in P6a we have been very creative! We have worked on a collage task with our P1b buddies. We have also created some beautiful pieces of art work based on stars and constellations. Click here for a sneak peek of our work.
It is our assembly in a few weeks and we have decided which songs we are going to include and everyone has part of the script to write. Next week we will start to write the scripts and learn the songs. Lots of us are excited about our assembly.

In Maths the Blue group and the Green group have been learning more about fractions. Lauren K liked completing 2 pages of maths and is happy that she can now find tenths and fifths of numbers. Adam liked maths this week because he didn’t understand fractions until Thursday but now feels confident when finding tenths. Chloe likes maths because she quite likes a challenge. The Red group were revisiting the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and then worked on the 4 and 8 times tables. Taylor found her work fun because we learned in different ways. William found his maths quite east.

The Underdogs won in a Dodgeball Competition in P.E. with Mr Jeffries. Well done to The Underdogs.

Isla is our Class Dojo Champion with 21 positive points (and no negatives!). Well Done Isla!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend,
Miss Anderson and P6a 😉

P2e

Although it has only been a short week at school we have all been working very hard. We have been learning about 3D shapes and patterns. We have been making shapes out of playdough.

Also, each family in the class won a competition to build their own dream house. We designed our own dream house and in writing we were learning to use wow words to describe our houses.

We have been talking about things we find difficult in school and have recorded this in our review jotters.

We all really enjoyed the onsie walk and are feeling fit and healthy. We think everyone in school looked fantastic in their onesies, especially the teachers!

Our week in p7b

Our week in P6M

This week in maths the Hexagons have been learning about addition and subtraction of 3 and 4 digit numbers.  The Pyramids group have been using our new i-pad minis to practise our mental maths skills 🙂 The Spheres have been learning about time and have been using smartboard games to help.  We learned about what constellations are and we learned that they are like dot-dot pictures in the sky.  The stars are not connected but appear to be so in the sky.  Some constellation names are Leo the lion, Hercules, Pegasus and Andromeda.  We also found out what our astrological signs are!  We made our own telescopes and we chose a constellation to view through it.  We wrote constellation stories where we chose our heroes and villians.  In French this week we learned about flags from different countries and we helped to make them for our Day of European languages.

Achievements this week-

Melissa and Rachel are starting Orchestra!

Findlay has moved up a level in golf!

Millie is going to hold back the tears….she is starting at a new school 🙂

Jamie is joining a pipe band!

Katelyn has nearly completed level 2 in baking!

Have a great weekend!

This week in P2g

This week in P2g we have been learning about selling houses. We learned about the job of  Estate Agents and our role play area in the classroom has been turned into an Estate Agents. We made For Sale posters for the Estate Agents. We learned about describing words and we tried to use some describing words to talk about the houses on our posters.

On Monday afternoon we will be going on a walk to look at houses in the local area. Remember to bring in green forms with up to date emergency contact information on them and to bring a jacket and suitable footwear for walking.

Have a nice weekend!

P3/2 Challenge

P3/2 home learning challenge has started! Mrs Laidlaw and Mrs Mitchell have set P3/2 the challenge of making a model of one part of The Sports Centre. How is everyone getting on with their models? It sounds like they are going to be very imaginative and interesting! Can’t wait to see them and watch pupils explaining how they made them. Enjoy!

Class 2

Well, as promised, here is the Class 2’s M&D visit blog post.

It was great. The dodgems were very popular but Mrs Clark wonders if she will need to start driving lessons in Class 2. What a lot of crashes!

The train and ladybirds looked much safer. The driving skills were improving as the day progressed

***MAGIC*** The magicians at M&D’s knew that picking children from Class 2 would help their show.

Yes, that is a live rabbit Dylan has made appear.

….and the day ended with a big splash as the children came down the water slides. Can you guess who choose which slide.

Class 3 at M&D’s

On Wednesday classes 1, 2 and 3 had their trip to M&D’s. It was awesome! We tried lots of different rides and activities.

Josh – I like the bumper cars because I liked to bump into people. I bumped into everyone on the ride.

Geordie – The White Water ride was awesome and cool. I got wet and I enjoyed that!

Cary – The Big Apple was quite fun. You start slow, then you go up a chain bit, then you go over a few bumps, then you go through a turn (it’s a bit scary!), then you go down so fast! Then you go slow for the chain bit then fast again and that’s the end of the ride. If you are lucky the man gives you an extra go.

Geordie brought waterproof trousers as well as his jacket. This was a very good idea as it was very rainy at the start of our visit. That didn’t stop us from having lots of fun!

Classes 1, 2 and 3  all had lunch together. A clown visited our table and did some magic tricks with some food!

We all had a fantastic day and we would like to say a huge thank you to M&Ds and the Variety Club.
