Our Week in P1l

Well, on Monday Miss Henderson came into our class with a basket and red cape.  She had found it outside and immediately knew something was strange so came along to P1 to ask us about it.  As we know lots about fairytales it didn’t take us long to work out it must belong to Little Red Riding Hood and that Dennis the Dragon must have had it but dropped it. After we worked it out we listened to the story and were all very good at realising that Little Red Riding Hood should not have spoken to the wolf because he was a stranger.  Our Red Riding Hood activities continued during the week and Mrs Jamieson helped us decorate some cookies to go in baskets we decorated. On Wednesday with Mrs Spence we wrote ‘Wanted’ posters to help find the wolf and on Thursday we had a different version of the story called Little Bad Riding Hood.  She ate all the cookies on the way to Granny’s house and put stones in instead.  In the end it turned out she was a hero because the wolf ate the stones and his teeth fell out!

Our sounds this week have been ‘t’ and ‘i’ and we are doing really well with them.  Some people have started to sound out words and make up words themselves – Mrs Leamy and Mrs Spence are very proud.

Here are some of our thoughts about school:

I like doing letters and numbers – Alfie

I am looking forward to going on a trip with school – Katie

We like drawing in school – Suvi and Maisey

I like playing with the Lego – Lucas

Bye for now

What P2g have enjoyed this week

Here are some of our class highlights from this week:

Using the ipads in Maths.” Emma

“The body parts game in PE.” Ben

“Learning about animal homes.” Rhuan

“Maths.” Ava Wood

“Playing Maths games with Mrs Jamieson.” Demi Leigh

“Watching a DVD in French.” James

Mrs Gallagher has been impressed by:

  • Liam who did a great piece of independent writing.
  • James who remembered the name of a squirrel’s home and helped others to remember this too.
  • Annabelle who has shown great mental maths skills in addition and subtraction within 10.
  • Kai who has shown kindness to others several times this week.

Next week we are moving on to a mini topic focus on Seasons and Day and Night. Please remember we need outdoor PE kit for Wednesday.

P3/2 Shared Start

This week we had our first shared start. Our focus was money. Everyone had a great time working on the different activities and enjoying having parents in our classroom. We did coin rubbings, played snap, designed our own coins and played interactive games on the smart board and Ipads. What did you all enjoy the most?

Money, money, money….!

This week we have been busy learning about money.  We have been identifying coins and sorting them into different coin collections.  We have made our own 1p and 2p coins and have enjoyed making coin rubbings.

In other news, we have had another visit from Dennis the Dragon, who curiously dropped off a basket, with a red hooded cape in it.  We are currently investigating who it belongs to…..

In language we are making great progress with learning our sounds and understanding how to blend them together to read small words.  Both of our teachers are very proud of us. 🙂

Class 2

In class 2 we have been practising our reading. Mrs Clark is very proud of us. Some of class 2 have linked repeated addition with multiplication. This means that 5+5+5+5 is the same as 4 x5.  When class 2 went to the sensory room it was like going under the sea because it was now Hector’s World. Hector’s World is where we are learning about being safe on the Internet.

Caitlin said “Hector’s World is awesome.  You should see it”

Liam liked going through the underground cave and wearing his Hector’s hat.

Aiden said “I liked the challenge to create a safe password to use on the Internet but I can’t tell you what it is because that not safe.”

Class 3 and p6a Learn in the Dark

On Monday the sensory room was transformed into the solar system.

We lay down and relaxed in the dark as we listened to a solar system song.  The planets hanging in the sensory room glowed in the dark.

Cary – I liked it.  I felt tired zzzzzzzzzz.

Nathan – I was a bit worried about the dark but it was okay.

We learned that there are 8 planets.  Do you know what they are called?

Geordie – I learned that Pluto is now called a dwarf planet.

We used a special torch which had slides to look at the planets more closely.  This was really cool.

Geordie – I thought the rings of Saturn looked like the inside of an onion.

The best part was we invited some pupils from p6a to enjoy our sensory room experiences with us.  We really liked having them join us and we are going to invite some more pupils next week.

The Lost Slipper

On Monday, Mrs White came to our class with a package addressed to us.  Inside the bag, was one glass slipper! Dennis wrote us a letter and asked us to find out who the slipper belonged to.

As a result, this week in class, we have been exploring the story of Cinderella.  We acted out the story using masks, made wanted posters for the owner of the glass slipper and designed outfits for a prince and Princess.

We wonder what Dennis will find next…

This week in P1l

Lots of learning in P1l this week.  Our sounds were ‘p’ and ‘a’,’ p’ is a pink quiet sound and ‘a’ is a stretchy black sound.  We are very good at reading our sounds and we have started to slide some of our sounds together to help us read words.  We have practised writing all our numbers to 10 now and lots of us can count on even further.  Dennis the Dragon has been busy again, on Monday he sent a shoe in the post!  We were very quick to work out who it belonged to and then we looked at the story of Cinderella. We had a good discussion about goodies and baddies in fairytales and we were split on Goldilocks some say good and some say bad.  The week ended with lots of cakes up in the Coffee Morning and it was great to see lots of our Mums and Dads there.

Bye for now p1l

P5d

This week we have been having lots of fun in class.

Topic -We have been learning about Charles darwin and the theory of evolution.

This is Joe 5000,000 years ago!

This is Joe 2,000,000 years ago !

As if that wasn’t enough fun we have each been creating a new species of animal.  We decided the best way to let people know about our creations was to make an information leaflet. Here are some of our leaflets ….

Writing –                                                                                                                     Lucy Mack -We have been learning how to describe a setting in a story and I think it’s great fun. I can use lots of interesting words in my story now.

Maths –                                                                                                                         Sasha Brown – We are learning about place value this week and I really enjoyed making a new place value game for the class.

P2e

This week we have been learning about how to build houses. We know the different people we need to help build a house and we put the stages into the correct order. We also have been learning how to write instructions and used different openers to write instructions about how to build a house. In topic we have also been learning about how to sell houses. We designed our own posters and have turned part of our role play area into an estate agents.

We have been having fun in maths this week as we have been learning about symmetry. We have been painting symmetrical pictures and have been cutting out different symmetrical patterns.

Molly: I enjoyed music this week. We were using instruments to follow the beat of some different songs.

Lucy: I enjoyed writing in my review jotter this week. I said that I have been learning about capital letters and full stops.

Freddie: I have been learning about symmetrical shapes. I made a symmetrical bat!

Our week in p7b

What have we been learning?

Rabeea: I enjoyed doing the pyramid challenge in maths, we had to add up the different blocks to find out the magic number.

Dean: I’m sad because I found out I have pause-itis! That is when your sentences aren’t joined together. Now I’m cured because I know I can cure it using connectives!

Sophie M: I liked doing races in P.E. and the object control. Object control is one of the building blocks of P.E.

Sam: I enjoyed redrafting my autobiographies because we used the computer to type them up. Check out our display outside our classroom!

Fraser: I enjoyed having a cup of tea with my gran and grandad at the coffee morning. I enjoyed writing my autobiography because I liked predicting the future, it was exciting.

Louise: I enjoyed watching back what we had done in drama. It was really funny and a little bit embarrassing watching yourself.

Who has impressed?

Eve: I think the ‘California Baby’ table has impressed me because they won table of the week for the first time.

Christopher A: Jane has impressed me this week because she made a great job of washing the dishes at the coffee morning!

Rebecca: Freya impressed me. i read her autobiography and it was amazing because she included lots of interesting things and had lots of detail about when she was younger.

Sophie M: Rabeea has impressed me because she always tries her best to work hard.

Hannah: My table (California Baby) impressed me because we worked together to win table of the week.

Fraser: Alistair has impressed me because he did really well working out the money and change at the stalls this morning including three sums at one time!

Mr Berginis: I was impressed with the class’ autobiographies and can’t wait to put them all up on display so everyone can read them.

P6a – Constellation Designers

This week in P6a we have been learning more about the stories of the skies and how to spot constellations. We are so good at this that Miss Anderson challenged us to design our own constellations and write our own stories to explain these constellations. We all wrote a different story.

Taylor’s story was about a giraffe that had a neck that grew so long that his head ended up in space.

Ellie’s story was about a shark that was different and wanted to visit space.

Adam’s story was about a cat that wanted to go to space. A dog chased the cat and the cat ended up in space.

Callum’s story was about a dog and a human that went to space and got super powers.

Kai’s story was about a dinosaur that had a fight.

In maths this week we have been continuing to learn about fractions and multiplication.

Taylor – I find my times table work quite easy as I know the quick way to do the 9 times table.

Ellie – I thought that the 2 times table was easy.

Adam – I thought that maths was easy and I liked it as I now understand fractions a bit more.

Callum – I think fractions are easy after a few weeks as we do more work on fractions.

We have also been working on our assembly songs and writing our scripts.

Taylor – We had fun writing scripts whilst sitting on the comfy couch.

Ellie – I found the songs fun, particularly Variations in Space.

Adam – I quite liked singing because the songs are catchy.

Callum – The songs are really good.

Achievements

The class have been getting on better in the playground and have been playing football sensibly. Callum thinks that the new rota is good and leads to less disagreements.

We also think that the playground is getting tidier – it is everyone’s job to keep it tidy!

Quite a few of us received our new instruments – how exciting!

Finally, we all enjoyed the coffee morning this morning!

Miss Anderson and P6a (and in particular the Mars Mallow Mountains) 😀

p2g go Through the Keyhole

This week in writing some of us did a piece of work entitled ‘Through the Keyhole.’ We had to imagine that we were peeking through a keyhole and we had to describe what we could see inside a room. Here is some of our writing:

Kai

The room is a living room. I can see flowers. I can see toys. The wallpaper is blue. On the wall is a black mirror.

Evan

It is a living room. I can see a couch. The walls are blue. There is a tv.

Emma

It is a bedroom. I can see a bed. The walls have red spots on a blue background.

Sophie

I can see a big bedroom. It has pink paint. There is a big, wide bed. There is a basket. There are dressing up clothes. There is a wardrobe.

We had to read our writing to a friend and see if they could get a picture of the room in their head. Doing this task helped us to think about describing settings and this is something we can transfer into our story writing.

P3/2 Visit to the Sports Centre

This week we visited Bathgate Sports Centre.  We got a tour from the duty manager, Jamie.  Below are some comments about the visit.

“They are getting new gym halls” (Isla).

“Some of the hall floors are made out of tyres” (James).

“We found out that the swimming pool is 3 years old and the Sports Centre is 22 years old” (Scott).

“There are life guards in the swimming pool” (Eva).

“There is indoor bowls and we saw people bowl” (Daniel).

“There was a group of people that were over 60 at an aqua fit class” (Casey).

“I learned that the new soft play is bigger than the old one” (Grace).

“I learned that the swimming pool is 25m long and the width is 10m” (Murray and Ciaran).

“Indoor bowling is for 16 year olds and over” (Ava).

“I play tennis there” (Jack).

“I learned that the soft play was built in a week” (Zoe).

Freedom Fighting in P5m

This week, in our ‘Freedom?’ topic, we decided to stand up against King Edward and fight for our freedom. We chose to fight on foot alongside William Wallace. We felt confident with him because he was a brave fighter and a strong leader.  There was a huge battle at Stirling Bridge, a lot of blood was shed but we were victorious even though the English army was four times bigger than ours! Thanks for the tip from the future, Josh – we may not have survived the battle had we chosen to fight on horseback alongside Andrew Murray!

From the Blog Post Box:

This week I was proud of…..

…myself for winning so many gem points for the table.                  Craig

…the newspaper article I wrote about the Battle of Stirling Bridge. Ava

…the work I did on place value. We were exploring numbers up to 1,000,000!                       Emma C

…my handwriting because I did more than triple the amount I needed to do. I got to Step One with my Dojo points. I was very proud of myself this week.                 Cameron

…the effective headline I wrote. It got displayed on the wall.                        Abby
