Book Amnesty

Calling all students, (and parents!)

Could you please look through your house for any school books which have been brought home and have not yet been returned! Whether the books have been brought home recently or perhaps even years ago?! No questions asked.

Please hand in books to P4b (Mrs Ghafoor) or at office. Thank you in advance.

Pancakes in P2g

This week the Foxes reading group have been reading the story “The Big Pancake.” On Wednesday Mrs Jamieson took the children from this group to do some baking and they made pancakes for the class. They also made some enormous pancakes too. We all enjoyed eating the pancakes and were glad that they didn’t run away from us like the one in the story did!

Also on Wednesday we had our Shared Start. The activities at Shared Start were all related to Our Senses topic. At the end of Shared Start we had a listening activity where we had to guess what some sounds were. Some of them were really hard to work out.

We have also been busy making Christmas decorations for the fayre on Saturday. We have some personalised and decorated baubles available at a bargain price of 50p each. We hope to see you coming along to buy some 🙂

Next week we are looking forward to our Christmas Lunch on Wednesday and visiting the library again on Thursday.

Double Trouble in P1m

This week in class we have been learning about doubles.  We have been playing dominoes and doubling up spots on ladybirds and butterflies.  If you have any dominoes in the house you could maybe play a game and have a go at adding up the spots.

“If you have the same dots on both sides that makes a double” – Connor

“1 add 1 makes 2 and 2 add 2 makes 4” – Louie

“I liked being the teacher and showing them 3 add 3 makes 6” – Teighan

A quick reminder that the Christmas Fayre starts at 10am this Saturday – hope to see you there!

P5m Animate It!

This week we participated in an animation workshop. We made use of the ‘Animate It!’ app on our iPads and, working in trios, produced animations on our own chosen themes. During our workshop we shared tips and ideas with others, offered help and advice and explored many of the creative possibilities of the app. We all learned so much – especially Mrs Mackenzie!
We then felt ready to take on our next animation challenge! This term we have been writing Loch Ness Adventures. Ten of our adventures have been selected to be made into animations. The ten authors have chosen their animation design team and have been busy planning…
Next week backgrounds, characters, props and text boards will be created, the animations will be filmed and the first screening presented on Tuesday. We can’t wait!

From the Blog Post Box:
This week I was impressed with…

…Mairi for doing well with her number 8. Emma C
…me, Abigale and Mirren because we made a really good animation. Megan
…Cameron because he was a really good basketball keeper. Emma B
…Emma B for getting onto Step 5. Erin M
…Lily, Erin and Taylor’s animation. All the animations were good but I thought theirs was the best. Abby
…Aaron’s dribbling skills. Erin H

P3w and P3h had a visitor!

We had a visitor!

Dr. Pugh visited our classes to help us learn more about magnets and forces. We learnt a lot of new things and we also got to take part in lots of fun activities!

Some of our highlights of the visit were:

  • Sophie – A magnet can lift a frog!
  • Cole – Magnets are stronger than the earth’s gravity!
  • Rory – The visitor was my dad and I learnt that there is a world’s biggest magnet.
  • Ty – A magnet can pull iron filings even through paper!
  • Caitlin – Some metals are attracted by magnets.
  • Ross – If you put a paperclip at the bottom of paper and you have a big magnet, the paperclip will make the paper lift up!
  • Liam – A nail can be turned magnetic by rubbing it against a magnet!
  • Noah – I had lots of fun with Dr. Pugh J

Class 2

In class 2 we have been learning about the 5 Pillars of Islam. Every Muslim has five duties to perform
Jamie:There is one God
Aiden:Pray 5 times a day.
Cody:Muslims have special prayer mats, we made some it was hard to remember not to put pictures of living things on the mats we made today.
We were proud of Dylan. He got the assembly certificate for writing about a famous Scot called Robert Burns. If you see Dylan you can ask him about Robert Burns.
Liam used all his coloured pencils at the same time, to make a rainbow for the Wizard of Oz float competition. Here are some of our entries for the float competition.

Aiden worked collaboratively with some children in p4g to make this time machine.

Time Machine

The new cushions in the class library seem to be a good addition.

Class 2 enjoy the new cushion in the class library.

P4b

Another busy week in P4b.

This week we looked at the advertising aspects of chocolate. We made slogans for our chocolate bars and then wrote adverts for them. We had to include what they looked like, smelt like and tasted like. (Tasted amazing, we know that!) Mrs Ghafoor was very impressed with the slogans that we came up with. We also made up questions from information given to us about chocolate. We had great fun creating and answering the questions in our groups and getting points for our groups. We have a quiz wall outside the classroom if you would like to answer some of the questions that we created. (Don’t worry, information is there also!)

We have been looking at the Commonwealth Games and have started designing posters for this. We also enjoyed our visit to the library. We now have our Blazing Blooms rocket to help us with our leaning and questioning. We voted for the best name, although Mrs. Ghafoor was ready to cheat if we didn’t vote for her favourite name for the rocket! Luckily our votes matched and Mrs. Ghafoor didn’t have to resort to cheating.

Enjoy your weekend.

Maths and Music in Class 1

Maths

We have been working very hard with Miss Cameron at maths time.   We have been learning to read our monthly calendar and locate specific dates and events.  Miss Cameron taught us a new song to help us remember the order of the months of the year.   We enjoyed singing our song for Mr Welsh, who was very impressed!

Congratulations to Cameron, who got a certificate this week for his fantastic work at maths time.  We are all so proud!

Music

We have enjoyed learning a new song ‘Who Can it Be?’  We try to do all of the actions and sing in time with the music.   We love to record ourselves singing as a group and then watch the video on the SMARTboard.  This helps us to see how great we are at singing as a group and recognise actions that we need to practise.

We have also had fun using the Skoog this week; we enjoy selecting our own instruments and creating our own music.

We have been listening to some classical music and spoke about how certain songs make us feel.  Cameron and Joe’s favourite piece is ‘Symphony No 5 (Beethoven)’.   David likes listening to ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (Tchaikovsky)’ it makes him feel happy.

Reflection Time

We have been thinking about what makes us happy at school.

‘I like to make certificates for my friends.’ Cameron

‘I like to write a card for Miss Cameron.’  Jayden

Introducing Dorothy

This week Miss Anderson was very excited to act like Andrew Lloyd-Webber and say

“Lauren, you ARE Dorothy!” not once, but twice. That’s because both Lauren K and Lauren C have both won the role of Dorothy in our P6 production of The Wizard of Oz. Lots go us auditioned and half the class have speaking roles. Don’t worry about the rest of us- we want to take on backstage roles (and there is always lots of singing!).

Antonia interviewed both Dorothys. If you like this video let us know by leaving a comment… We might make it a regular feature!

Meet Dorothy and Dorothy

Best comment last week goes to Lauren C, who will get her prize next week. There will be another prize for best comment this week (open to everyone – pupils, parents and school staff).

Enjoy your weekend.

Miss Anderson and P6a 🙂

Reflecting On Class 3 Achievements

In Class 3, we have 2 whole class reflection times everyday.  This week our target has been to say something we did well each day.  We have realised that we achieve in lots of different ways everyday.

Cary – I know I did really well with my story writing because I didn’t need any adult help and I had lots of good ideas in my story.

Geordie – I was really good at making similes.  My favourite simile is ‘as hairy as a gorilla’ because it is really funny.

Josh – I have been making words with Miss Robertson.  I used to think this was tricky for me but I am good at it now.  It helps if I say the word very slowly.

Liam has been using the talking book to help him with his sounds.  Liam – I like to hear the letters.

Callum – I made a Thomas themed sensory room with Geordie.  We set out wooden railway, Trackmaster, Thomas books, train games on the iPad, Thomas busy books and a colouring competition.  The other children came and some enjoyed it but Nathan didn’t because he doesn’t like Thomas.  I thought it was amazing.  I showed it to Mr Welsh and he liked it too.

Nathan – I have been very friendly to our new pupil, Jamie.  We are like best friends already.

We have enjoyed thinking about our achievements this week and next week we will be trying to think about something someone else in the class has achieved.

Busy Bees in P1m

This week all of the girls and boys have been very busy learning their songs and actions for the nativity and they are doing fantastically well.  Please check schoolbags because all of the children made a card to invite someone special to their performance.

The children have also been busy making glittery candle holders to sell at the Christmas Fayre.

Sophia is very busy adding jewels to her candle holder!
Luke is very proud of his candle holder!

P1b News

On Wednesday we made birthday cards to celebrate the UNCRC’s 24th birthday.  We learned that the UNCRC is an agreement between countries which makes sure children have their rights.  We were reminded about our rights and how lucky we are to have these.

This week we have been enjoying creative dance with Mrs Inness.  We have been learning to skip and gallop to music.  Mrs Inness also read the story ‘The Elf’.   During this we had to listen to the story and complete actions to music.  We are looking forward to more dance next week!

Bye for now,

P1b

It’s a Mystery in P1l

P1l are loving their ‘Mystery Box’.  Lucas, Joshua and Alfie all took the box home this week.  They put something from home inside the box and everyone else has to ask questions to find out what is hiding.  It is a lot of fun and it also helps us ask useful questions, listen to others and think carefully about what people are saying.

In maths this week we have started to look at the number facts for 2 and 3 and how adding sums can be somersaulted to make a new sum with the same answer.

Mrs Leamy asked us what we had improved this week and what we had learned and Enci had a great answer in that we had got better at tidying up!!

Today everyone got their own Book Bug bag from the Scottish Book Trust.  We have read the books in class and really enjoyed them.  On the 3rd December we have been invited to the library where we will hear the stories and then vote to see which one we like the best.  We hope you enjoy reading your books at home.

P2e

P2e have had a very tasty week! We have been learning about our sense of taste. We know that our tastebuds help send messages to our brain to tell us what our food tastes like. We have also been learning about four different tastes your tongue can taste. These are bitter, salty, sweet and sour. We put our taste buds to the test this week. In one activity we had to guess the flavour of some different crisps and in another activity we were trying different foods and deciding if they were salty, sweet, sour or bitter. This was great fun! Next week we will be learning about our sense of smell and how it helps us to taste our food too.

We also designed a perfect sandwich with all our favourite foods. We wrote instructions about how to make this sandwich. We remembered to use different openers when writing instructions.

We have all worked hard in maths this week and can all identify missing numbers in sums. We are now ready to move on to subtraction next week.

Next week we are going to begin making our Christmas crafts for the fayre. Remember if you would like to make a personalised decoration please bring in the money on Monday.

Pupil of the week – Eve H

Table of the week – Supersmurfs

It’s been a really interesting week as we delved deeper into our topic. We have learned what chronological means and we are beginning to put together a timeline of events in the Scottish Wars of Independence. We made storyboards to show the killing of the Sheriff of Lanark and have them on display in our classroom.

Sasha – It was fun doing the storyboards. It was important to get the events in the right order.

Drama –                                                                                                                          We had great fun re-constructing the events which led to King John being imprisoned.

Mental maths update – We are getting much quicker with our recall. We have been playing multiplication and division snap this week and although we found it tricky we are getting the hang of it. The game wasn’t just about recalling our knowledge of the times tables, there were other things we had to be able to do to make the game successful –

Take turns

Have patience

Be polite

We have started reading Billionaire Boy this week.  We made revolting menus just like the ones in the book. We had to remind ourselves how to construct a menu before we did our writing. Hopefully we don’t ever see any of our menus on offer in the school dinner hall!

Have a good weekend !

P7M

Primary 7m have had a very busy week!

We had a visit from PC Arnott on Monday who reminded us how to stay safe online.

We watched Choices for Life on Wednesday morning and took part in a online discussion about the effects of alcohol and smoking. We all thought that the brown teeth, furry tongue and jar of flem were disgusting!

Miss Macintyre has been busy learning how to play the Gembi (A drum from West Africa) and taught her first drum lesson on Wednesday. The pupils all said that she did very well and have been asking every day when the next drum lesson is!

The House Captains have also been very busy this week judging house sheild entries and the winners were revealed at assembly. They will also be creating a power point to launch the new house point system for next Friday.

Next week we will be getting our sew on for the Christmas Fayre next Saturday. We will be sewing Chrismas Pudding tree or door decorations.

The Time Machine by P4g

What an amazing assembly we had! It was called ‘The Time Machine’. We had sooooooooo much fun! A WEEK OF CHOICES FOR p7b

Our week:

CHOICES FOR LIFE LIVE EVENT

Jane: “I enjoyed the Choices for Life event because it taught us the dangers of drugs and smoking. The video was called Liam’s Story and in it it taught us that even if other people are smoking you have the right to say no!”

Alexander: “We had Choices for Life live this week. I learned that you shouldn’t take drugs or smoke because it can hurt your body and your lungs can swell up.”

THE BLITZ

Sophie M: “I enjoyed learning about the Blitz which was when the Nazis came over and dropped lots of bombs on London and other parts of Britain. The bombs kept getting bigger and bigger as the war went on. I liked to see how much damage the bombs did when we watched Blitz Street, one house got totally demolished.”

Louise: “We watched a programme about the Blitz called Blitz Street where they built a street of 1940s houses and set off bombs to recreate the effects of the Blitz. The first and second bombs set off and we saw shrapnel travelling at 7000 miles per hour but the milk bottle survived!”

Emma: “It was scary learning about the houses being blown up in the Blitz because people were being killed with all the bombs.”

Freya: “It was quite surprising that the only thing that survived the bomb experiment in Blitz Street was a glass milk bottle!”

D-DAY

Callum: “We learned that D-Day involved five beaches called Sword, Gold, Omaha, Utah and Juno and happened on 6th June 1944. We found out that Omaha beach was a slaughter because the German defences hadn’t been bombed properly. “

Isla: “I really enjoyed learning about D-Day this week. D-Day was when the Allies sent over 160,000 troops over from Canada, Britain and USA to five different beaches in Normandy, France. I really enjoyed writing the letters as if we were a soldier from D-Day because you had to think about how they would have felt.”

Christopher A: “I also enjoyed writing the D-Day letters as to complete the success criteria we had to put ourselves in the shoes of the soldiers and we also had to pretend we had just survived the worst day of our lives. It was hard to put it into words and try and decribe it so it was a challenge but fun.”

Who has impressed?

Tom: “Josh has impressed me by getting pupil of the week, he has behaved maturely this week. Well done Josh.”

Alistair: “Rabeea impressed me by getting 72 out of 72 in Big Maths Beat That!”

Emma: “Sophie L impressed me with her score on Big Maths Beat That.”

Isla: “Rebecca impressed by getting one of the choir solos.”

Sophie M: “My P1 buddy Charlotte impressed me by getting pupil of the week in P1m.

Callum: “The Troopers impressed me by winning table of the week.”

Louise: “Zenaib impressed me by getting her best ever score in Big Maths Beat That.”

Jane: “I’m proud of everyone who got a duet in the choir and I’m impressed by Christopher A and Isla for getting a dancing part to Rocking Around the Christmas Tree.”

Alistair: “Mr Berginis has impressed me by being such a good teacher so far in p7.”

Eve: “Rebecca impressed me by singing really loud and really well on her audition.”

Mr Berginis: “I was very impressed with all of your D-Day letters as they contained such great emotions and descriptions.”
