I’m a P2e, Get Me Out of Here!

We have had a very busy and quite unusual week! On Wednesday we had a “I’m a P2e Get Me Out of Here” challenge using all our five senses. Some of the activities were quite disgusting. We had five different challenges and we worked hard as a team to try and win stars. The five challenges were:

  • smell – we had to make a perfume.
  • sight – we had to describe as many pictures as we could and our team had to guess what we were describing.
  • sound – we had to draw sounds that we think we could hear if we were in a jungle.
  • taste – we had to eat worms, eyeballs and dead flies. (Don’t worry they weren’t real!)
  • touch – we had to put our hands into five different, disgusting boxes and try to grab stars.

We all had a really great time and our winning team were the Bright Sparks. They were pleased to win their medals and trophies!

Keira: “I really liked the touch activity and putting my hands in the boxes.”

Grace:”I liked tasting the eyeballs and worms!”

Also, we have had fun this week learning about shops. We turned our role play area into a supermarket. There is a cafe and a toy shop inside. We designed our own shops.

Ben:”I made a bucket shop like the shop in my favourite book, Billy’s Bucket.”

Aaron:”I made a butchers.”

On Thursday we went to the pantomime. We all had a great time.

Arran and Aaron liked the part when Aladdin was having a sword/light saber fight with the bad guy. Caitlin really enjoyed listening to all the songs. Cameron thought the policemen were very funny and Karys liked it when the genie gave Aladdin the magic ring.

Today we had our first Golden Club event. The children really enjoyed watching the movie and having their popcorn. Well done to everyone who made it into the Golden Club this term.

Awards:

Class Dojo: Rachael and Mya

Table of the Week: Brain Boxes

P1l Time for a Rest

Our busy week has come to an end and everyone has done so well.

The Nativity was brilliant, everyone in the whole school saw it and the hall was jam packed on Tuesday and Wednesday when family and friends came.  On Thursday it was our turn to be the audience when we went down to the Regal to see Aladdin.  Here are some of our favourite bits:

Calum – I liked it when the baddie came on.

Kay – I enjoyed seeing Aladdin and Jasmine getting married.

Alfie – It was funny when the guards were running around chasing Aladdin.

Kaite – I enjoyed all of the panto.

Lots of people agreed with Calum and liked the baddie best.

In the afternoon we got a sneak preview of the Nursery Nativity when we went up with Mrs Hay, we all thought it was looking very good. After that it was buddy time and we made Christmas cards with our buddies.

In maths we are all doing really well remembering our number facts to 5 and we also looked at doubles this week.

Next week we are looking forward to our Christmas party on Thursday and the Church Service on Friday.

Bye for now, P1l

Primary 1m

What a busy week!

Firstly, huge congratulations to all of the girls and boys for a fantastic nativity performance. Everyone looked very smart and sang beautifully – well done. Hope said she enjoyed singing the best and Hafsa thought the angels looked special with their glittery wings.

On Thursday we went to see the panto, Aladdin at The Regal. All of the children enjoyed this and soon got the hang of shouting ‘He’s behind you’ and ‘Oh no it isn’t’.  They were a fabulous audience!

Today the children wrote Christmas cards to friends in class and addressed the envelope themselves. Their handwriting is improving in leaps and bounds and they are very proud of themselves.

Learner’s Journey jotters are coming home in school bags today so please have a look. I’m sure you’ll be amazed at your child’s progress. Please take a few minutes to complete the ‘highlights of the term sheet’ with your child and if they have had any successes outside of school these can be filled in the page at the back of the jotter. Thank you in advance.

Almost there for P6a…

No, not the holidays – our marble jar. We only have 4 more marble to go until we get a reward (we hope!). We are going to spin the Wheel of Fortune (ok, really the reward wheel but just as exciting) to see what our reward will be. Fingers crossed for the four marbles.

We were very sad to hear of the passing of Nelson Mandela and have taken a bit of time out of our Jacobites topic to learn more about his life.

Nelson Mandela showed South Africans that white people and black people should be treated the same. (Paul)

He changed the world. (Taylor)

He was an inspiring man because he helped people to see the good in others. (Kendal)

He changed our world by making sure that everyone in South Africa had the same opportunities. (Jay)

Miss Anderson’s writing group have been writing biographies.

Mahatma Ghandi – Jack, Callum, Adam, Kendal and Antonia

Roald Dahl – Jay, Harry and Lauren U

Helen Keller – Emily

We had a trip to the Regal theatre to see Aladdin. It was funny.

Only reading homework this week!

Miss Anderson & P6a

Cushion Club

Both Cushion Clubs have had a great week in the lead up to Christmas.  We have made Christmas Crafts, been to a pantomime and sang Christmas Songs. The pantomime was AWESOME! (Kai’s words) Aidan liked the last part best. Cameron liked the baddie and the ghost. Mrs Waddell loved the dragon. We would like to wish everyone who knows us a Happy Christmas and Best Wishes for 2014.

The P7 class in striped pyjamas

Our week:

Amber: “I enjoyed reading the Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, it was really sad. I also found it difficult to watch the film because it was a bit upsetting.”

Fraser: “ I enjoyed reading The Boy In Striped Pyjamas. It was really interesting and I would recommend it to other people because you are getting to see the war through the eyes of a young boy.”

Isla: “I also enjoyed watching The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas but I found it really sad.”

Jane: “I enjoyed watching more of Anne Frank as well because I enjoyed it and learned more and more. They thought that the Nazis had got in through the attic window at one point and they were really scared but it turned out to just be rats. It was scary to watch and I was on edge.”

Zenaib: “I enjoyed watching some more of the Diary of Anne Frank because I got to know more about what they did in the Secret Annexe. For example, they were joined by an eighth person: Mr Pfeffer the dentist and Anne and Margot were schooled by their father while in hiding.”

Abbie: “I enjoyed watching the p1 nativity because they put lots of effort in to it and it was outstanding.”

Christopher A: I enjoyed going to the Nursing Home on Monday with the choir and we got to sing all our songs for the residents. It was awesome because we finally had an audience to perform to and they were an amazing audience. The residents were really joyful and were really impressed.”

Rabeea: “I enjoyed doing the division accuracy challenge because it helped us learn to go over and double-check our answers.”

Tom: “I enjoyed reading Nemesis for Literature Circles this term because it was a high standard and it had loads of action and detail in it.”

 Who has impressed?

Jane: “I think the p1s have impressed me this week by putting on an excellent performance in the Nativity.”

Sam: “The choir impressed by singing so well at the Royal Scot Court and if they keep that up they’ll do just as well at the Partnership Centre next week.”

Eve: “I’m impressed by Rebecca because when we were away with the choir she sung really loudly and she was outstanding.”

Zenaib: “I’m impressed by everyone because they have worked so hard this week.”

Rebecca: “I’m impressed with Louise for doing an amazing Apply role in Literature Circles. She found great links between herself and the character in the book, Izzy.”

Mr Berginis: “I have been really impressed with the mature discussions the class have had over the past two weeks about aspects of the Holocaust like Anne Frank and The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.”

P4b

We have had another fun week in school.

Monday was our school party and we had lots of different games and yummy food.

Tuesday was a hard work day as we had spelling, reading, maths and topic work to do! This was also our last day with Mrs Kelly. Her placement finished and we know we will miss her as she helped us a lot with our work.

On Wednesday we practiced our new spelling words. In French we were learning about the different words for Christmas things. We also made Christmas cards for Mrs Kelly.

Today, Thursday, we worked on our posters for the Commonwealth Games with Mr. Jefferies, completed a survey on how we felt, and continued with our tricky surprise Christmas cards. In the afternoon, we went to the Regal Theatre to watch Aladdin. It was awesome. We got back just in time for packing our bags to go home!

Tomorrow is the Golden Club Event!

We do keep busy!

Aladdin

P3/2 had a wonderful morning at the Regal Theatre. We all thoroughly enjoyed Aladdin and had lots to say about it!

We are all extremely proud of Zoe who performed in Aladdin; a wonderful singer and dancer! Well done Zoe, you were fab!

It’s time for Santa to come!

Caitlin – We were having our P3 party on Tuesday this week. Santa came and we played lots of fun games!

Megan – The P3 party was great! I loved when Santa game and I also loved playing all the games.

Another busy week in and out of class!

On Saturday it was the Christmas Fayre and we had lots of fun there. The craft items that we made, pom poms, bracelets and reindeer cards, all sold out!

We have been practising our songs for the church service – they are so tricky! We are getting better though!

We have started our new topic – The Broons aroond Scotland. It has been really interesting looking at maps and how they can show different types of information.

We have also been looking at plays and how they are written. We practised in our groups and then performed a scene from the play for everyone in the class. We gave positive comments and then gave suggestions on how to improve their performance for next time. It was great fun!

See you next week.

P6a Get Animated!

For the last few weeks we have been learning about animation and how to create animations. Last week we created 3D animations and this week we created 2D animations. We worked in our Clan Teams for these tasks.

Here are a few examples

Grant Clan

Murray Clan

MacDonald Clan

Stewart Clan

MacLeod Clan

Campbell Clan

We used Stop Go animation for these videos.

It was the P6 party this week and we all had a great time. We would like to say thank-you to all the adults (and P7 carers) who made it all possible –  THANK-YOU!

We thought that the other P6 class did brilliantly in their assembly and we really enjoyed their singing and all the facts that they shared with us.
*****Pupil of the Week is Callum*****

Lauren C won the Drama award for the month.

It’s beginning to look A Lot like Christmas!

Christmas Party

Class 1, 2 and 3 had a wonderful time at their Christmas Party on Monday.  Everyone looked very smart in their party clothes.  The children in Class 1 liked looking at the shiny lights which covered the walls inside the party room!  We had lots of fun playing and dancing at the party.  We have been looking at our Christmas party photographs and speaking about what we enjoyed most about the party.

‘Dancing at Gangnam Style!’ Joe

‘Gangnam style as well.  I liked dancing and falling.’ Jayden

‘Playing with my car.’ Lewis

‘Playing with playdough and dancing.’ Yolie

Christmas Activities

We have been busy making Christmas decorations for class 1.  We made fantastic decorations using strips of paper and glue.  Cameron and Jayden created a repeated pattern using three different colours.

Christmas lunch was delicious!  We enjoyed eating our lunch, wearing party hats and pulling crackers with our friends.

Cooking time on Wednesday was lots of fun as we decorated gingerbread tree decorations.  We took them home to show our family.  Miss Barrie and Miss Cameron wonder whose decoration will end up on the Christmas tree and whose will end up in their tummy!

P1b Blog

On Wednesday Primary One went a trip to our local library.  When we got there, the librarian read us three stories; ‘Jumblebum’, ‘Paperdolls’ and ‘What’s the Time Mr Wolf’.  We then voted on our favourite and shared our thoughts on these stories.  Our teachers we very impressed with our good listening skills.

Also on Wednesday we had another great shared start.  We had fun making lots of Christmas crafts.  The Santa hats were very popular.

We have been practising very hard for our Nativity performances next week.  We hope to see you next Tuesday at 9:30am or 2:30pm on Wednesday.

Have a great weekend,

P1b

P2e

It is not long now until the Christmas holidays! We had our Christmas lunch on Wednesday and we all enjoyed eating our lunch together in the dining hall. We have decorated our class and put up our class tree and advent calendar.

Although we are excited for Christmas, we are still all working hard. We had our last drumming session wtih Daniel. We have all realy enjoyed learning to play the drums, but we are happy that Miss Elliot has learned how to use them too. We are going to keep using the drums in our learning.

We have been learning about our sense of touch. We know that the skin is covered with sensors and the most sensitive areas are our lips, tongue, hands and feet. We had to find different feels in the classroom. We didn’t like touching the slimy beans! We are finished our topic on senses and have learned a lot. Next week Miss Elliot has a surprise challenge for us involving the senses.

We have also been working hard with Mrs Innes and Miss Elliot to learn the songs for the Christmas service. We are looking forward to all the Christmas activities next week including the P1 Nativity and the Pantomime.

Well done to our winners this week in P2e:

Pupil of the Week – HollyClass Dojo – Keira

Tables of the Week – Whizz Kids and Brain Boxes

Drama award – Ben

See you next week!

P5d

The run up to Christmas is a busy time in school and we are getting more and more excited as the days go by.

We had our Christmas Fayre last Saturday and it was a great success. Those of us helping on the class stall had the perfect opportunity to put our mental maths skills into practice as lots of people needed change when buying things.

Lucy M – it was a wee bit tricky because some people bought two or three things and I had to do my times table to work out how much money they owed.

Shaun H – it was easy to work out the change because I can add and takeaway in my head and we’ve been practicing that a lot in class.

Our topic work has been challenging this week. In our house teams each person designed a Trebuchet and we presented it to our group then we voted on which design to build. We then had to make a list of the materials we will need to make it.

Joe M – it was really hard to decide which design to pick because there were lots of good ones.

Shaun B – it was hard to think of what to use to keep the trebuchet stable.

Ava C – we had six people in our house team and we didn’t have a majority vote for any design so we had to present our designs again. We had to think really hard about what one would be the most likely to actually work.

We had our Christmas party on Thursday afternoon and we all had a great time. We would like to thank Mrs McClafferty and the support team for all the planning and hard work!

We are definitely ready for the weekend!!

Cushion Clubs

The Cushion clubs are getting excited because they began to open the doors in their Advent Calendar.  The classroom is decorated and they have a Christmas tree up.  Mrs Collings made calendars for 2014 with some children.  As a treat they got to watch a video for 15 minutes and they will get this every week till Christmas.  They have been listening to the Christmas Story and have one part of the story each day. The children discussed the emotions felt by the people in the Christmas story. Next week they will work together to make some Christmas crafts.

Shared Start in P1m

Thank you very much to all of the parents who were able to make it along on Wednesday morning.  The children had lots of fun showing off their classroom and making some Christmas craft.

The children chose to make a Santa hat, a Rudolph Christmas card or to decorate a snowman.  All of the mums and dads were amazed at how independent the children now are and how much their cutting, sticking and colouring skills have improved.

We are all looking forward to our nativity performances next week and we’re sure you are too!
