High 5!

This week we have been learning about High 5 steps that we can use in and out of school with other boys and girls.
These 5 steps help us be kind to others and it helps us stay safe.

1. Ignore:
If somebody is being nasty to you, you don’t look at them and pretend you don’t hear them.

2. Speak friendly:
Tell the person nicely that they are hurting your feelings and maybe ask questions as to why they are acting this way.

3. Walk away:
If Step 1 and 2 still do not help, you can walk away from the person with your head held high. Don’t look back.

4. Speak firmly:
Ask them to STOP. Tell them you will tell an adult next if they do not stop acting unkindly.

5. Report:
Tell a teacher, a PSW, an adult or your buddy if you are still not happy.

We coloured in pictures of helping hands with a list of 5 people we can go to if we are feeling unhappy with the way somebody is acting towards us. Next week we are going to put in order these steps so we can remember what to do.

High 5 and stay safe! 🙂

Exploring the Mountains and Glens with P5m

We have been finding out how the landscape of Scotland was formed thousands and thousands of years ago.

We used Oreo cookies to help us understand how the tectonic plates (which make up Earth’s crust) push together to form mountains. Sometimes the plates pull apart and molten magma seeps through. When this cools and hardens it forms a mountain.

We also learned how the glens were formed by large rivers of ice called glaciers. We made a glacier out of porridge and drew lines of chocolate sauce across it so that we could study how the glacier moved. We noticed that our porridge glacier travelled more quickly in the middle. The sides slowed it down. We worked out that a real glacier would be eroding the rocks at the sides, carving U-shaped glens into the landscape.

Did you know that Loch Ness was formed by a melting glacier?

Wonder what Nessie thinks of that!

From the Blog Post Box

I think the Loch Ness Monster is…

…real because I have seen the monster when I was at Loch Ness and I have seen pictures and videos of it.              Clara

…real because sharks and crocodiles have survived so why couldn’t a dinosaur? (I think Nessie is a dino.)                     Cameron B

…not real because I’m sure it is just a myth.              Casey

…real because there is a dinosaur called elasmosaurus which lives in the sea and looks like the Loch Ness Monster. Google up a picture of elasmosaurus to see!                                  Ben

…not real because all of the photos of it have been fake.             Scott

oh I’m just not sure!!!                           Sarah

P4m: Imagine, Broons and Fayre

17th November

P4m have enjoyed being very imaginative in writing this week. We wrote the beginning of ‘The Magic Door’ and tried really hard to use as many adjectives as we could to describe what we imagined was behind the door. Fiona and Michelle were our star writers this week: they both produced extremely descriptive pieces of writing.

For our Broons aroond Scotland topic we were researching lots of different landmarks from Scottish cities. We really enjoyed being able to use the netbooks to find out the information we needed.

We have also made some lovely Christmas decorations to sell at the Christmas Fayre- making them made us feel very festive and excited for the holiday season!

p6h

Another busy week for us with rehearsals for Olivia coming along a treat. We have amazed Mrs Haddifon with our acting and singing skills, and we are all very excited about sharing our talents with you at the P6 Show.
On Wednesday we took a trip to the Caribbean via our imagination and wrote fantastic poems using Similies. We followed this up with work on our display which is looking fabulous! We have an underwater scene, a Caribbean Fruit Stall and an amazing Smoothie Bar.

Class 2 and 3 get Christmas Creating!

This week in class 3 we shared an afternoon with class 2.
We were in groups of 2 or 3 doing a silver circle.
There were four stations on our silver circles.
The theme of our silver circle was “Chirstmas!”
The class 3 children tell you more about it below:
Geordie: “We worked with class 2 to make lots of things to sell at the Christmas Fayre. We made bracelets, badges, penguins and reindeer bags. I think I am going to make picture frames to sell too. In the rainbow room I build an igloo. I am really enjoying watching ‘The boy in the striped pyjamas’ Its GREAT! We are watching it to help us learn more about our WW2 topic I was glad Bruno met a friend, I cannot wait to watch more!”
Josh: “This week I enjoyed listening to the Harry Potter novel, my favourite part in the book so far was when the troll escaped. I also enjoyed watching a movie all about WW2. From watching the DVD I have learned that WW2 was a cruel time in history. I went to p7 during class 3’s Christmas afternoon, in p7 I was learning about propaganda used in the war.”
Cary: “We made Christmas things such as little penguins with Christmas hats or ear muffs, I really enjoyed it. We also made a few other things like little badges. We made these things to be sold at the Christmas Fayre. There will be lots of beautiful things to buy so if you can, come along on Saturday 29th November! My favourite part of the week was when a cat came into the playground. I got to pat it, but I made sure I washed my hands afterwards to keep the germs away. I am looking forward to watching the DVD next week about the war. It’s really good and interesting, I really like it.”
Callum: “I enjoyed everything this week! We were learning about Evacuees during WW2. On our Christmas afternoon Nathan and I build a model igloo with the bricks in Rainbow Room. When I was making a reindeer bag with Mrs O’neill I gave her a fright by turning myself into Rudolf. It was so funny! I enjoyed making a model of an Anderson Shelter using junk, I worked with Miss Robertson to do it. I had really great ideas. I am looking forward to enjoying more days at school.”
Caitlin has been in class 3 this week until 12.30pm she tells us all about her week below:
“We have been playing dominoes at maths mission. Last week’s maths mission was to draw pictures that represent number for us to play dominoes. Our pictures were World War 2 themed. I liked it because I like playing dominoes.”
“In maths I am learning how to divide. I think this is a bit hard.”
“Next week I am looking forward to doing things for the Christmas Fayre.”

P5d

Another great week!!

Maths

This week we learned about reflective symmetry. We did this in a very fun way by using dance. In pairs we decided who the performer was and who the mirror was then the mirror copied every move the performer made at exactly the same time. In our pairs wee then performed our dance to the song Everybody Dance Now.

Callum D – It was very hard but I kept trying and I was successful in the end.

Jack – I really enjoyed it and think mine and Reiss’s was the best one because we did a side bump.

Viggo – I understand reflective symmetry much better because we learned it with the dance and music.

Enterprise

We have had a very busy week making gift bags to sell at the Christmas Fayre on Saturday the 29th. Our bags will be sold for 80p which we think is a bargain!

Writing

This week we have been learning how to stretch a sentence. We started with a basic sentence, The cat sat on the mat, here’s an example of one of our stretched sentences- Last night the fat cat called Minky sat nervously on the threadbare mat in the kitchen because she was in trouble. We started by adding adjectives to describe the nouns then we used an adverb to describe the verb. Next we used who, why, where, when and what to make the sentence more interesting.

P.E.

This week with Mr Jeffries we were learning about increasing our stamina. In outdoor P.E. with Mrs Drummond we have been learning to play rounders. We all thought it would be easy but it turned out to be quite tricky. After a couple of weeks practicing we are now able to play as a team and Mrs Drummond is very happy with our progress.

Have a great weekend!

p2bg news

This week we have started creating a pet shop in our classroom. We had the choice of making different pets for our topic wall. We made spiders, birds and turtles. We will be making more pets next week when our parents come to join us for shared start.

We also talked about how to care for different pets and then we wrote instructions about how to do this for a book to go on our wall display.

In Maths we have been learning how to sort numbers into 10s and 1s. Kiara was awarded pupil of the week for problem solving linked to our learning. Well done to Kiara.

Remember p2 shared start is on Wednesday 26th November at 8.55am. We look forward to seeing some of our parents and carers then.

Our week in p7b

Our learning…

Emily: We learned this week about Propaganda. Propaganda was used in World War 2 to try and convince people to do something or think a certain way.

Kai: When we learned about Propaganda and learned that some of the posters were made by the Allies for the Allies and some were for the Axis. We made posters to show we understood how it worked.

Kieran: I enjoyed drama this week because we were practising our lines. We were focusing on act 2.

Isla: We’ve been practising our multiplication skills this week and we did an accuracy challenge. We do an accuracy challenge to help us learn the skill of double-checking our work for errors. I got fully accurate and felt happy.

Lauren U: We also learned about D-Day this week and for our writing this week we pretended we were soldiers who had survived D-Day and we wrote letters back home to a loved one called Rose.

Paul: D-Day was 6th June 1944 and it was when loads of soldiers were killed on the beaches of France because they were trying to push the Germans back to Germany. Thousands were killed but the mission was a success and it led to the end of the war.

Taylor: This week we started our new version of Big Maths Beat That which has 80 sums which are all times tables. It’s harder but is helping me learn my times tables.

Jack: In P.E. team 4 came first in the castles tournament and they scored 53 points.

Chloe: In p1 buddy time we helped our buddies learn how to play games and take turns.

Who has impressed?

Chloe: I’m impressed with the Wardens table for winning table of the week.

Kendal: I am proud of the p7 netball team because we came second in the tournament.

Emily: I’m impressed by Mr Berginis because he has a good German accent when we read the Boy In Striped Pyjamas novel.

Mr Berginis: I was impressed with the D-Day letters we wrote this week and was very proud of how caring we all were towards our p1 buddies.

Fun games with our buddies!

This week we played outdoor PE games with our buddies. We first got into 5 groups and we had to play at least 2 games. Some of the games we played were:
Lucas – What’s the time Mr Wolf
Hannah & Katie – I sent a letter to my love
Anna – Duck, duck, goose
Max – Banana Tig
Jodie – Duck, duck, dinosaur
Kaycee – Duck, duck, tail
Erin & Donna – Banana Peel

RME in Class 2

Religious and Moral Education

In class 2, we have been learning about Christianity.

‘Some Christians believe God made the world’. Dylan

We painted pictures to show what happened on the days in the story of Creation. Dylan enjoyed painting day 2, when Christians believe God created the sky and the sea.

We have been reading some Christian stories, including ‘The Good Samaritan’. After reading the story, the boys in class 2 re-told the story in their own words using props. We discussed why we thought Jesus told this story.

‘There was a walking man who was travelling, robbers hurt him, and two men didn’t help him. The Samaritan did.’ Dylan

‘So that other people can be thoughtful like the good Samaritan’ Cameron

‘Because he wanted people to be kind to others’ Cody

The boys in class 2 drew great pictures of their special friends. We have been writing about our special friends and what makes a special friend. We also created recipes with ingredients for friendship. Some of our ingredients include: laughter, caring, kindness, fun, honest
Liam wrote about his friend Caitlin.

‘Caitlin is my special friend because I love her we play ring a ring of roses’. Liam

Jamie and Cameron had lots of fun in the Rainbow Room building a house and garage!

The Legend of the Christmas Spiders

Once upon a time in Germany a woman was cleaning up for Christmas. There were spiders where the lady was sweeping and they whooshed away into the attic until she stopped cleaning.

When the house was silent the spiders went down to see the Christmas tree. They danced around the tree and it was covered in webs. When Santa saw the webs on the tree he magically turned them into silver and gold.

That was the start of tinsel and the Christmas spider!

Why don’t you buy a Christmas spider to hang on your tree?

Legend retold by Connor Davis

We used this little story as the inspiration for our Christmas Enterprise project and have made beautiful spiders to hang on your tree. We have also made some Robert the Bruce spiders based on a very famous Scottish legend. Make sure you come along to the Christmas Fayre, Saturday 29th November, 10:00 -12:00 to catch your spider!

A big thank you to Gemma B whose Bake Sale in 5m raised £38.05 for Children in Need. Thanks also to Olivia, Annie, Clara and Ella whose Beauty Salon raised £8.00.

It’s great to see all these great business minds being put to such good use!

P3b

This week we started watching the online story of George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. We are really enjoying it so far!
For story writing, we made our own medicine recipes for George’s grumpy Grandma. We included ingredients, measurements and verbs such as mix and stir to describe the method.
We then decided that we want to change our role play area into a secret science lab. We discussed objects we would like to see in this such as; potion bottles, magnets, books and a computer to write up experiments.
This week we started making Christmas crafts for the school’s Christmas fayre in two weeks’ time. We made Rudolph cards and decorated tea light holders. We look forward to selling them.
We also revised the names and properties of various 2D Shapes. We then worked with a partner to create a range of shapes using art straws. Some of us made trickier shapes like pentagons and hexagons. Next week we will explore lines of symmetry.

P4m

14th November

P4m have had a busy week! In Maths we have been working on learning different strategies for revising our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Some of us have also been working on subtraction with Mrs Ghafoor.

We were lucky enough to get a special lesson with Miss Henderson who helped us to continue our learning in writing newspaper articles about the Handball Festival.

We have also been practicing some new activities in reading- the Book worms groups really enjoyed creating new titles for their reading books.

To culminate our Wallace’s Wacky inventions topic we presented our group inventions to the rest of the class. Our posters are looking great and are displayed proudly in the classroom!

P3e

We have had a marvelous week in primary 3. We have started reading George’s Marvelous Medicine. It is a great book and it is very funny. In writing we created our own marvelous medicines. We had to write a list of ingredients and include the amounts of each item. When writing our instructions we used different openers to start our instructions and used different verbs such as stir and mix.

We also found out that our new topic is all about magnets and forces. We have decided to turn our role play area into George’s Laboratory. We are going to use this area to carry out science experiments.

Have a good weekend.
