Spelling home learning

This week we have been challenged to write a story using our spelling words which have the ea sound.

One day I went to the SEASIDE for some HEAT.  I saw my friend Johnny, we played in the sea for a wee while.  Then we went to get lunch, in the queue we MET a strange looking spider,  It was SPINning a WEB on a LEAF.

I said ‘Who are you?”

The spider said ‘WHICH boy are you?’

I said ‘ My name is Tobin and this is Johnny.  Would you like to join us for a cup of TEA?’

‘No thanks’  it said ‘I’m a spider.  I would prefer a fly, do you have any?’

‘No I don’t have any.’  I said and we EACH had our lunch.

Scots writing

In drama we have been performing plays in Scots.  One of the plays we worked on was Th Thee Wee Grumphies (The Three Little Pigs).  In writing we had a go at writing the story of the the three pigs in Scots!

Th’ thee wee grumphies.

Lang lang ago in the days o lang syne, there were three wee pigs.  The three wee grumphies had such braw faces.  Johnyny the Dowper was a funny pig.  Slaverie Sam was a daft pig.  Alan was a smart pig.  There was also a muckle bad wolf.  The grumphies were blethering in the ferm, they decided to leave the ferm to live their lives.

Johnny the Dowper saw a mannie wi a cairtie it was awfy full.  He said “Hey mannie wi a cairtie, can I get a daud o straw?”

The mannie said “Aye!”

Johnny the Dowper bigged his hoose in 5 hours.  Oh no the wolf came!  He said “Little grumphie, let me in.”

Johhny the Dowper said “I’m no daft!”

The wolf heched and peched and bloo the hoose doon and ate Johnny up in one gulp.

Slaverie Sam saw a mannine wi a cairtie.

He said “Hey mannie wi a cairtie, can I get a daud o widd?”

The mannie said “Aye!”  Slaverie Sam bigged his hoose in 6 hours.  The muckle bad wolf came and he said “Little grumphie, can I come ben?.”

Slaverie Sam said “I’m no daft!”

The wolf heched and peched and bloo the hoose doon and ate Sam up.

Alan saw a mannie wi a cairtie of stanes.  “Hey mannie wi a cairtie, can I get a daud o stanes?”

The mannie said “Aye!”  Alan bigged his hoose.  The wolf came!  He said “Little grumphie, can I come in?”

Alan said “I’m no daft!”

The wolf heched and peched but he couldn’t bloo the hoose doon.  The muckle bad wolf climbed up the hoose and went doon the lum.  But the wee grumphie had put a muckle pot under the lum and the fell into it.  The wee grumphie ate the wolf for his dinner!

Football and Egyptians

Over the last term we have been lucky enough to be taking part in some football training. We have learned and practiced different skills like ball control and accuracy when passing. This week we got to take part in a football festival which was great! We spent the first half practicing our skills and getting warmed up and then after break playing matches. We all saw a huge improvement in our skills and were good sports doing the game.

This week we have also started being Tomb Raiders. We have learned about the importance of the Nile. We have set up a research tent and even discovered an archaeological site….we are wondering what treasures we will discover!

P3W crack the code!

We found hieroglyphic messages hidden in the school! We worked in groups to try and crack the code so we could translate the messages.

Caitlin – One of the codes was: “My dad is a farmer and he works hard.” Another code was: “I have two sisters and one brother.”

Sophie – One code was: “My name is Mahu. I am ten. I go to school.” Another code was: “My brother left home two years ago.”

Noah – The last code was: “Can you help me find my lost brother?”

Ross – The hieroglyphics were really fun!

We also found out lots of facts about the River Nile and how it was used by the Ancient Egyptians!

Tom – We found out that the River Nile was used for camels drinking out of it.

Ty – The River Nile was flowing over 4,000 miles (6,400 km).

Eva – The River Nile can be used to clean your shoes, body, clothes and hair.

Abbie – The River Nile goes to the Red Sea and also the Mediterranean Sea!

Liam – It also is used for having a bath, catching fish to eat, drinking out of, and lots more!

We are looking forward to working with Mahu to help him find his long lost brother and also finding out more about Ancient Egypt!!

Put yer jaiket oan!

In class, we have been learning a lot of Scottish words and been learning in lots of different ways. Such as: using play-doh to spell our words, doing word matching games, creating our washing claes line, and so on.

We have been very busy this week with other learning going on in our class.  Here is what we have been doing:

Sophie – We have been doing our Burns’ Poetry competition and 3 people have got through to the finals and I am one of them!!

Abbie – We have been doing times tables – 2x tables, 5x tables and 10x tables.

Tom – We have been making our “Kindness Tree”. Our “Kindness Tree” is made up of promises that we have all made about school. My promise is “I will try my hardest to never get on the sad cloud and get minutes off Golden Time”.

Ty – We have been learning our times tables. I know that 2 x 2 = 4,
5 x 3 = 15 and 10 x 9 = 90!

Caitlin – We have been learning Scottish words! A goonie is a dressing gown, bitts are boots, a jaiket is your jacket, sannies are plimsole shoes and a sark is a shirt!

Other News:

Pupil of the week – Brooklyn -> for doing fantastic times table sums in Maths.

3 Burns poetry finalists: Sophie, Caitlin and Megan.

MVP for January – Ty.

Great Scot!

This week in P3W we have been learning about famous Scots! We have learned a lot about Sir James Young Simpson and Robert Burns.

Samantha – We have been learning about Robert Burns and Sir James Young Simpson in class. Sir James Young Simpson was born in Bathgate! Robert Burns was born in Alloway in Ayr.

Noah – I liked it when we played Auld Lang Syne. This is a song written by Robert Burns and usually played at New Years.

Jennie – Sir James Young Simpson was knighted by the queen! Just like Sir Gary Barlow!! (says Miss Wilson!)

Caitlin – Sir James Young Simpson was famous because he made a medicine called chloroform which helps with pain relief. Robert Burns was famous because he made funny poems.

Tom – Sir James Young Simpson was famous because he invented chloroform and people weren’t sure of the medicine to start with – until Queen Victoria used it when she had her son, Leopold.

Eva – Robert Burns wrote poems like ‘A Red, Red Rose’, ‘Up im the early morning’ and ‘John Anderson, my Jo’. We are all learning these poems in class.

Ty – We have been learning about tartan this week too! We have looked at different types of tartans. Different types of tartans were for different clans. We have been making our own patterns!

Samantha – We’ve been making our own Scotland flags also!

Brooklyn – Something fun we have done today is make our own washing line full of ‘claes’!

All of our ‘claes’ on the washing line are types of clothing that we had to work with partner to figure out the meaning of the Old Scottish word.

Lots of news from P3h

This week in class we made magnet board games. Archie and Noah made Scooby doo’s haunted house. You need to collect 5 Scooby snacks boxes and collect wee Joe. If you land on the mystery “?” the Frankenstein and the Vampire get you. It can teleport you to the haunted house. In Michelle and Lauryn’s, George’s marvellous medicine game, you collect all the medicine bottles and try to get to the finish as quickly as possible. But if you land on the banana you go straight to the finish. In Tobin and  Gary’s Christmas game, there is ten levels where you collect Santa and Reindeer but you don’t want the Mountain man or the Evil elf.  On the 9th level you destroy the Mountain man and on the 10th level you defeat the Evil elf. If you collect reindeer you get bonus points and loose 5 points when you collect the mountain man. If you collect the mountain man five times you lose the game.

We play Squeebles on the I pads for maths. We use Squeebles to learn our times tables.  If we get our tables right we save a Squeeble from the Math Monster.  We also get prizes and bubble stones for doing really well.  At the end we can play bubble ball using our Squeebles and trading our rewards for different balls and flip fish.  We think Squeebles is brilliant and fun.  We would recommend it to people who like maths and need to practice their times tables.

We had a visit from Dr Pugh who told us all about magnets.  We made our own magnets, we rubbed the nail on the magnet and it turned magnetic so the paperclip stuck to the nail. We also learnt that you can get really big magnets that can make non magnetic things magnetic- like making frogs float.  We learnt that magnets were stronger than gravity.  He uses magnets at his work.  He paints mechanical parts  with special paint and then uses magnets to see if there are cracks which would make the items dangerous to use.

In class we read George’s Marvellous Medicine.  Miss Holwill decided to use this for us to practice our functional writing.  First we had to design and write instructions for our own medicine for grannies.  Some of the medicine would make them explode, make her nice or turn her  into your servant.  We wrote letters to Boots the Chemist to ask them to try our medicine recipes.  They said they would so we made posters to advertise our medicines.

We have finished our puppets for the Christmas Fair and look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

P3w and P3h had a visitor!
