P5d
This week we have been having lots of fun in class.
Topic -We have been learning about Charles darwin and the theory of evolution.
Becky- we used the Devolve Me app to see what we would have looked like many years ago and how we have evolved. It was really fun!
This is Joe 5000,000 years ago!
This is Joe 2,000,000 years ago !
As if that wasn’t enough fun we have each been creating a new species of animal. We decided the best way to let people know about our creations was to make an information leaflet. Here are some of our leaflets ….
Writing – Lucy Mack -We have been learning how to describe a setting in a story and I think it’s great fun. I can use lots of interesting words in my story now.
Maths – Sasha Brown – We are learning about place value this week and I really enjoyed making a new place value game for the class.
Our week in p7b
What have we been learning?
Rabeea: I enjoyed doing the pyramid challenge in maths, we had to add up the different blocks to find out the magic number.
Dean: I’m sad because I found out I have pause-itis! That is when your sentences aren’t joined together. Now I’m cured because I know I can cure it using connectives!
Sophie M: I liked doing races in P.E. and the object control. Object control is one of the building blocks of P.E.
Sam: I enjoyed redrafting my autobiographies because we used the computer to type them up. Check out our display outside our classroom!
Fraser: I enjoyed having a cup of tea with my gran and grandad at the coffee morning. I enjoyed writing my autobiography because I liked predicting the future, it was exciting.
Louise: I enjoyed watching back what we had done in drama. It was really funny and a little bit embarrassing watching yourself.
Who has impressed?
Eve: I think the ‘California Baby’ table has impressed me because they won table of the week for the first time.
Christopher A: Jane has impressed me this week because she made a great job of washing the dishes at the coffee morning!
Rebecca: Freya impressed me. i read her autobiography and it was amazing because she included lots of interesting things and had lots of detail about when she was younger.
Sophie M: Rabeea has impressed me because she always tries her best to work hard.
Hannah: My table (California Baby) impressed me because we worked together to win table of the week.
Fraser: Alistair has impressed me because he did really well working out the money and change at the stalls this morning including three sums at one time!
Mr Berginis: I was impressed with the class’ autobiographies and can’t wait to put them all up on display so everyone can read them.
Onesie Walk
Last week the whole school participated in the Onsie Walk around Balbardie Park. This was to promote the benefits of walking and there are some beautiful areas to walk in West Lothian. There were many colourful onsies and the pupils enjoyed it!
p2g go Through the Keyhole
This week in writing some of us did a piece of work entitled ‘Through the Keyhole.’ We had to imagine that we were peeking through a keyhole and we had to describe what we could see inside a room. Here is some of our writing:
Kai
The room is a living room. I can see flowers. I can see toys. The wallpaper is blue. On the wall is a black mirror.
Evan
It is a living room. I can see a couch. The walls are blue. There is a tv.
Emma
It is a bedroom. I can see a bed. The walls have red spots on a blue background.
Sophie
I can see a big bedroom. It has pink paint. There is a big, wide bed. There is a basket. There are dressing up clothes. There is a wardrobe.
We had to read our writing to a friend and see if they could get a picture of the room in their head. Doing this task helped us to think about describing settings and this is something we can transfer into our story writing.
Finally….photos of P5m at Lowport!

The Fun goes on in Class 2. Thank you to everyone who responded to last weeks Class 2 blog. Hands up if you thought things could not get better. Well this is Balbardie, things can and they often do. Here at Balbardie we know that learning is fun and sometimes strange. Strange in the nicest possible way.
Babies come to school.
Taxi drivers come to visit.
Monsters come to birthday picnics
Teachers wear onesies (but not every day)
Just for the onesies walk. The onesies walk was to raise awareness of walking

Class 3 explore space!
This week Class 3 have been doing lots of activities related to their Space topic. On Wednesday each of the boys used the internet to do some research. Cary found out about the moon, Josh researched the sun and Nathan learned more about the Earth.
Facts we discovered:
The moon is the only natural satellite of the earth.
The sun was formed around 4.6 billion years ago.
Earth’s innercore spins in an eastward direction, opposite to the outer core.
We also made a layered poster showing the relationship between days, months and years.
Josh – I made the middle bit. It’s all about days. There are 24 hours in a day, 7 days makes a week, and 1 spin of the Earth makes night and day.
The next layer was made by Nathan who recorded some information about months. Cary had the biggest piece of paper and his job was to find out about years.
We also did some space themed activities at PE. We played a game called Moon Rocks where Mr Jeffries challenged us to collect ‘space rocks’.We had to work together as a team to do this. We managed to get 3 but unfortunately another one disintegrated and disappeared into a black hole! Hopefully we can try this again next time and get even more rocks!
Primary 7m
Primary 7m have all been working hard this week. The class worked well in pairs to learn about different states in America, and compare weather and climate. We have been busy writing our autobiographies which brought back some very funny memories! Today, we walked with our p1 buddies for the onsie walk.
Our assembly will be on Friday 4th October – all parents/carers/ families welcome.
This week in P2g
This week in P2g we have been learning about selling houses. We learned about the job of Estate Agents and our role play area in the classroom has been turned into an Estate Agents. We made For Sale posters for the Estate Agents. We learned about describing words and we tried to use some describing words to talk about the houses on our posters.
On Monday afternoon we will be going on a walk to look at houses in the local area. Remember to bring in green forms with up to date emergency contact information on them and to bring a jacket and suitable footwear for walking.
Have a nice weekend!
P3/2 Challenge
P3/2 home learning challenge has started! Mrs Laidlaw and Mrs Mitchell have set P3/2 the challenge of making a model of one part of The Sports Centre. How is everyone getting on with their models? It sounds like they are going to be very imaginative and interesting! Can’t wait to see them and watch pupils explaining how they made them. Enjoy!
Class 3 at M&D’s
On Wednesday classes 1, 2 and 3 had their trip to M&D’s. It was awesome! We tried lots of different rides and activities.
Josh – I like the bumper cars because I liked to bump into people. I bumped into everyone on the ride.
Geordie – The White Water ride was awesome and cool. I got wet and I enjoyed that!
Cary – The Big Apple was quite fun. You start slow, then you go up a chain bit, then you go over a few bumps, then you go through a turn (it’s a bit scary!), then you go down so fast! Then you go slow for the chain bit then fast again and that’s the end of the ride. If you are lucky the man gives you an extra go.
Geordie brought waterproof trousers as well as his jacket. This was a very good idea as it was very rainy at the start of our visit. That didn’t stop us from having lots of fun!
Classes 1, 2 and 3 all had lunch together. A clown visited our table and did some magic tricks with some food!
We all had a fantastic day and we would like to say a huge thank you to M&Ds and the Variety Club.
Dragon Drama in P1l
There has been great excitment in P1l this week as on Monday we received a rather burned letter from a dragon going by the name of Dennis. Dennis asked us about a girl he had met in the woods talking about porridge and seeming to be rather upset. Very quickly we knew he was talking about Goldilocks and this week we have been working on lots of things relating to the story. Some of the things we have done are: painted pictures, made bear faces, made different sized chairs, sorted things according to size, written to Dennis and retold the story. Some of us have even seen evidence of Dennis including drips of what could only be dragon slime or scales. We are not sure if Dennis will come again but we all agree it would be good to have another visit from our friendly dragon.
Bye P1l
What p2g have been learning this week in school
Here are some of the things we have been learning in p2g this week:
“We have been learning to add doubles in Maths. I liked the song for adding 6-10 because I didn’t know those ones.” Rhuan
“In PE we were learning to work in teams.” Annabelle
“We were learning to say hello in French.” Baillie
“We have learned how to use ipads.” Alfie, Emma and Ava
“I learned what a terraced house is.” Demi Leigh
Class 2
Class 2 had fun looking at photographs of our learning this week. On Thursday we went swimming . It was our first swimming this term. Aiden said “It was great”. Friday was party day. It was a party for Miss Robertsons’ birthday. Guess what age she is now. Class 2 had fun playing party games. We were happy when our friends won musical chairs and musical statues. Dylan said “I don’t mind not winning, party games are still fun.”
Class 3 prepare for M and Ds :)
We are very excited about our upcoming trip to M&Ds, only 5 days to go!
Geordie – I am very excited because we are going to M&Ds. I said ‘Wooohoooo!’ when we heard the news!
Josh – I have been before but I can’t really remember. My mum says I really enjoyed the caterpillar ride.
Cary – I felt really excited when I heard about the trip!
On Wednesday afternoon we got together with everyone in classes 1 and 2 to learn more about M&Ds.
We looked at pictures of different rides on the Smart board. We found out that some rides are for little children. Some are for people of any height. There are some other rides that you have to be quite tall to go on. We all found out what height we are so that we can find the rides that suit us.
Josh – We got measured on the height chart that was painted on the wall upstairs.
Cary – I was the tallest in my group.
Geordie – I want to go on the really fast rollercoaster rides that are for teenagers. I’m the sort of person that likes awesome stuff.
In the rainbow room we had lots of fun pretending to go on different rides. Here we are on the roller coaster!
Josh – We built a log flume and a roller coaster.
Cary – I made a pirate ship which you could wobble about. It was great!
We learned that the big wheel can also be called a Ferris wheel. We made pictures of a Ferris wheel. The wheel part of it spun round just like the real big wheel does!
Cary – I loved it and I drew lots of people in the gondolas. Some gondalas had 1 person, some had 2 and some had whole families!
We also thought about some of the things we would see, hear, touch, smell and taste on our trip. Our senses will be very busy indeed!
Look out for our blog next week when we will tell you all about our real trip to M&Ds!
First Full Week in Primary 1m!
We have enjoyed our first full week in school. Our buddies have helped us with school dinners in the lunch hall, and we have enjoyed playing outside afterwards.
In PE, we have worn our full gym kits for the first time, which was great fun!
We have been busy decorating our classroom. We have created large versions of some of the school staff, including Mr Welsh, and have created lots of colourful school uniforms.
We have learned the sounds m and c and practised their associated actions and songs. We have also looked at where we make these sounds in our mouths. We have practised writing these letters and some of us have used them to make some small words.
We have written the numbers 4, 5 and 6 using lots of different materials.
Lots of parents came to visit our classroom on Wednesday to see how busy we’ve been, and to find out more about learning in Primary One. We enjoyed showing them our classroom. 🙂
