P2/1 travel to the Arctic!

This week P2/1 have been learning about the Arctic through the story, The Polar Bear Son. This story is a traditional Inuit tale. On Monday we made polar bears using ‘puffy paint’. We have displayed these above our class igloo which we are really enjoying playing in. We learned an Inuit song called ‘Oke, toke, unga’ which we performed with actions. We made our own Inuit and dressed him or her in warm clothing. Did you know that long ago Inuits wore the skins of seals and polar bears to keep warm, but nowadays they dress just like us on a winter’s day? Yesterday we watched a video about Inuits and we took our own notes. We will use our notes next week to make things during ‘free play.’

P4a

This has been a busy week. P4a has been learning about Robert Burns and Scots language. We are in the process of writing our own poems using Scots words and have written biographies for Robert Burns.

In Maths we have been learning to fly! Well only for learning about ‘Grid References’!

We have also been learning how to be ‘cool’ with our responses to other people and in different situations.

This week in p2lg

This week we have been working hard on counting and ordering numbers to 100. Next week we are going to learn how to tell if a number is odd or even.

In reading we are learning about non-fiction texts. This week we learned about the contents page. We learned that the contents page helps us to find information on specific pages of the book.

In our learning about The Senses we learned about animals which have very good eyesight and animals which have very poor eyesight. We also did some blindfold touch exepriments where we had to put our hands into some different substances including ketchup, washing up liquid, feathers, flour and play doh. It was a bit messy but lots of fun!

Well done to Liam who was pupil of the week this week. Liam received 2 certificates, 1 from Mrs Gallagher and 1 from the Breakfast Club. 🙂

We are working hard on our assembly for next Friday and are looking forward to seeing some of our family and friends there next week.

Busy First Week

P1b have had a busy first week back after the Christmas holidays! After reflecting on our week, we wanted to share some of our highlights.

Ben enjoyed handwriting because we were learning how to neatly write capital letters on the line.

Ava liked completing an experiment about objects that float and sink.  We discovered that wood and plastic float and metal sinks!

We also had a closer look at the colour wheel and learned about hot and cold colours.  We then coloured landscape images using either hot or cold coloured pastels.

Happy New Year from 7M!

Reflections by Eve

Monday was the first day back, I felt so sleepy!. We got our new care classes, I got p3LM. I really like being their carer! We started our WW2 topic and we learned about how Adolf Hitler rose to power. I am excited about reading our new book-‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. We have a choice of two poems to learn for the poetry competition. ‘Wee Joukydaidles’ or ‘Scots, Wha, hae’ by Robert Burns. I’m learning the poem ‘Wee Joukydaidles’. We were given a lesson in Mandarin by Mr Chen and he taught us all about China. I had fun writing my Biography of Robert Burns. We ended the week with a Big Balbardie Blether!

Reflections by Simone

It was the first day back and we were assigned our new care classes. We started to read ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. I think it will be a sad book! I shared my news about what I did at Christmas time at circle time. In art this week we made Robert Burns’ cottage. It was hard to fir the pieces in. We wrote our Burns biographies and Miss Shephard taught us about rationing during WW2. At the end of the week we worked in drama groups with Mrs Innis. I worked well on the group task.

p2lg are learning about The Senses

This week we have been learning about our senses. The 5 senses are sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste.

We have learned about the eye and how it works. We also thought about what it is like to lose your sight. We did a blindfold obstacle course where our partner led us around the course. This helped us to understand how visually impaired people might feel.

“The black dot in your eye is called your pupil.” Ross

“The coloured part of your eye is called the Iris.” Liam

“Your eyelid keeps dirt out of your eyes.” Caitlin

“I liked the blindfold course but it is a shame for people who are blind all the time.” Archie

Here are a couple of pictures of our blindfold assault course.
