Sport Relief 2018

Many thanks to everyone that helped support our Sport Relief fundraising challenge!

We set the challenge of running 500 miles as a school and we absolutely smashed this target totalling 716 miles! A huge thank you to staff and pupils for this as we encountered a flooded running track and no doubt some dizziness from running around the gym and assembly halls countless times!

We also raised over £600 for the Sport Relief cause and we are grateful to all who supported us with this. (We still have official bands available on request for £1- see Mr Gall for details).

Many thanks,

The Kids Count Crew (citizens making a difference).

Children in Need official total!

The ‘kids count’ citizenship group are delighted to announce that we raised a total of £755 for Children in Need!

We would like to thank …..

all parents and carers for supporting this cause with donations/buying merchandise, all the pupils at Dunblane for wholeheartedly taking part in all the events, all staff for attending and lighting up our glow in the dark disco, Chrissie and Margaret for donating fruity Friday funds, Mrs Grant for her beautiful display table, and Mrs Stone for recounting all the money.

A great team effort for a great cause! Next stop, Sport relief….watch this space….

IDL-water filtration challenge

P7G are transitioning from our ‘ultimate survivor’ to our ‘extreme earth’ context. The class were tasked with a science challenge to link the two….following a ‘catastrophic earthquake’ they had to hypothesise and then select the best materials to filter dirty water as a team to survive. It was a competition to get the best/clear visual result. Well done team 4! (Who didn’t spill or dye their water)! 😆

Vitruvian Man Investigation

To continue our topic of measure in maths, 7G were doing an investigation into proportion. We learned about Da Vinci’s Vitruvian man and his historical calculations.

Were our neck circumferences half that of our waist? Was our span the same as our height? Did our foot length measure the same as the distance between wrist and elbow? Well, nobody is perfect…..

P7G art- composition study

P7G have been developing their art skills by paying close attention to composition. This included focussing on thirds on the page, keeping subjects off centre and the size difference between foreground and background objects. We also briefly looked at shading, but watch this space for further work on that!

We got some great results….

P7 Transition / Outdoor Learning

Our transition programme is well up and running and our young learners have responded brilliantly to working with each other as a team across our learning community.

This outdoor learning lesson was part of the High School activity days and all the learners gained a lot of science knowledge and practical skills from this as well as toasting a marshmallow or two!

It was a great pre-cursor to Dalguise and they are all looking forward to further experiences up at the high school.

Primary 5 Basketball Festival

Following our excellent sessions at our lunch-time basketball club, we took part in the P5 Stirling Basketball Festival at ‘The Peak’.

Two teams were entered and they both did tremendously well; racking up many wins and developing their skills, teamwork and sportsmanship along the way.

This resulted in one of our teams emphatically winning the whole tournament!

Many thanks and well done to all of those involved, the squad members that weren’t selected for the tournament and to all of those who organised the event (Active Stirling). It was a great success in every way and another trophy for the cabinet!

Belated update on comic relief fundraising…

The Kids Count Citizenship group are proud to announce that with all of your help we managed to raise £801!

The group organised a sing a long in the hall, non-uniform day and sold the official red noses around the school.

Thank you for all of your donations and your continuing support of all events at DPS!

(special thanks again to Mrs. Stone and Mrs. Grant who painstakingly always check the counting of the money)

Foot and mouth painting to honour service amputees

P7 have been investigating the effects on service men and women as part of our WW2 context. We first read and watched accounts of those affected by limb amputation and then discussed at length the challenges that would create day to day. We then examined existing works by foot and mouth painters and their techniques.

All that was left was for us to try it ourselves and we had a competition to see who could create the most accurate London skyline using only a foot or mouth!

The class produced some excellent results and many realised that as they went on their technique improved showing the benefit of practise and perseverance.
