Author visit Mayfield Centre

Many thanks to Barbara of St Ninians Library, Mayfield Centre for inviting our P3 – P5 children to listen to the Scottish Author, Gill Arburthnott on Wednesday 7th March.
Our children thoroughly enjoy Gill’s talk on what it is like to be an author. They were surprised how Gill got her ideas for her books, even listening into conversations on a bus.
If you would like more information on the books Gill has written please visit the website:

First Minister’s Reading Challenge Inspiring Classrooms

Our School has been awarded funding to carry out an Inspiring Classrooms project as part of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge. Inspiring Classrooms consists of a small grant for school’s to create an exciting project of their choice that includes an author visit and books or reading materials for children taking part.

Our particular project has focused on:

An author visiting the School. We had Badger the Mystical Mutt visit who is a character created by McNicol and Jackson. The authors talked today about the book with Primary 1-4. The theme of the books are about following dreams, ambitions and self-belief.  The children had a wonderful experience and a selection of the books will be available in School for the children to read.

Our aim is to further motivate readers and develop positive attitudes and excitement about reading.
