The first iPhone was released in June 2007 in the US while the UK had to wait until November of that year to get one of the new-age devices. Since then another 11 versions of the iPhone have been released.
Apple’s iPhones have always maintained virtually the same design with every update. Only slight changes have been made in terms of button placement and size along with a smoother, slimmer, curved shell for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus onwards.
However, it seems as though not everyone likes the new look and so Apple have manufactured an updated version of the iPhone 5s with a size that is more preferable for those who loved the pocket-sized phone. The phone with the 4 inch screen is expected to hit the shelves in March or April, branded as the iPhone 5se. Of course everybody has some questions about the new release, so here are some answers to some of the things that you may be querying.
What does “5se” stand for?
Although no one is entirely sure of the exact meaning, the “se” is thought to stand for “special” and “enhanced” by some. Others think that “se” may mean “special edition” but currently no reasons for the name choice have been provided by Apple. In fact, the name for the new phone was originally thought to be iPhone 6c by many.
What colours will it be available in?
The 5se is anticipated to be available in the same colours as the iPhone 6s. Rumour has it, the new phone may also be available in a new hot pink shade but this has not yet been confirmed.
How much storage space will it have?
It is likely that it will have a minimum of at least 16GB of storage but we cannot be certain of the maximum amount available at the moment. However, the possibility of a 128GB capcity seems unlikely as only 16GB and 64GB options are available on the iPhone 6 and the “5se” seems to be very simillar to the 6 apart from its size.
What makes the iPhone 5se different from other Apple models? Why should I buy it?
- First of all, price. It is a well known fact that Apple’s products don’t come cheap but the iPhone 5se is much nearer the lower end of the price range than other iPhone models available at the moment. Ranging from $450 – $550 (Around £315 – £385), they are between $100 to $200 less than the iPhone 6s (currently selling from £539 on Apple’s UK website).
- Although nothing is certain, as Apple hasn’t uploaded any information to their website about the new phone as of yet, the iPhone 5se is expected to have many of the same features that the iPhone 6 does. Touch ID has been rumoured to be one of the smartphone’s assests and many agree that it would be silly not to include as they really would be moving backwards if it were not part of the design. Apple Pay is also expected to be compatible with the new model as well as an NFC chip allowing a wireless connection between devices.
- The phone is also suspected to have the same design and curved shape that the iPhone 6 does just on a smaller scale.
Will it have a good quality camera?
It is expected to have an 8 megapixel back camera and 1.2 megapixel front camera, as well as the ability to take live photos. This is the same quality available on the iPhone 6 with the extra benefit of live photos, which can only be captured on the iPhone 6 and 6s Plus at the moment.
Will it come with 3D touch?
Unfortunately it will not have the 3D touch feauture that the iPhone 6s does. However, this seems to be one of the very few disadvantages to the iPhone 5se.
All that’s left to wonder now is if the 4 inch phone will be a hit. However, with a cheaper price, compared to other iPhones on the market, it’s likely it will be popular no matter what size it is. With possibly only a month until release we won’t have to wait long to find out.
