Thanks to Mr Slowey for the information on the Schools Mentoring Programme.

After last years successful mentoring programme for students sitting National 5 Qualification exams, it has bloomed yet again this year, for pupils sitting Higher Qualification exams.

19 pupils take on the journey along with 19 keen teachers to achieve their maximum potential in the upcoming 2018 exams, which are not that far away! It has targeted this year for students sitting 5 Higher examinations, in which one they achieved a Grade C. This intensive programme allows them to receive support from their assigned teacher in areas such as time keeping, planning and organisation.

Last year, statistics shown 53% of pupils passing their N5 prelim which then leaped to 60% pass rate in the official exams!

This may sorely suggest that the mentoring programme allowed pupils to strive harder during the crucial months leading to the examinations.

Another goal of this programme is to kickstart a meaningful conversation between the pupils and parents/carers about their education.
Not the typical: “ How was school?”…. “Oh it was fine”.

Six to seven meetings will take place throughout the year to sit down and assess how they are performing in all aspests; from attendance to homework. A detailed report will be written at each meeting which then will be sent to their guardian.

A programme tailored to meet terms with pupils for their full potential to be achieved. The Oystercatcher wishes all the best for another successful year and many more.
