Mamma Mia, the musical movie inspired by Sweden’s famous pop group ABBA, is of course a very popular movie and known by many. It’s immediately funny and thoroughly interesting causing it to become an instant family favourite.
The movie arrived in 2008 through the genius of director Phyllida Lloyd. This movie is set on the Greek Isle of Kalokairi and is about a girl named Sophie who is trying to discover who her father is. However her single mother, Donna, has no idea who her father is either.
So when Sophie finds her mum’s diary from when she was younger, she insists on inviting her THREE potential dads, Bill, Harry and Simon, to her and her fiancé Sky’s wedding. This ends up in her father being finally revealed and true love to be found.
What truly makes the film special is the various lively characters involved. Donna’s friend Tanya has had multiple husbands over the years and her other friend, Rosie, has written her own cook book.
There is also Sky, Sophie’s fiancé, who is loved by many on the island. Interestingly, there was a part in the movie where he says that he stopped searching for who he was. That leads some viewers to suspect that he had a bit of a bad background, although there is different perspectives on everything.
The songs are memorable and the storyline is unforgettable. A strong message throughout the film is that the life they live is hard earned – and that not everything is easy. We very much enjoyed Mamma Mia and we think you will too!
