This week marked Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday. The timeless children’s author  wrote many bestselling books including Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Matilda to list but a few.

Roald Dahl was born on the 13th of September 1916 ,and died on the 23rd of November 1990 at aged 74.

Many schools all over the UK have been celebrating Roald Dahl birthday by dressing up as one of the characters from one of his books and watching the movies and reading the books.

There was a service held at St. Peter and St. Paul’s church to celebrate his life.

Some truly excellent Roald Dahl quotes:

A little nonsense now and then, is cherished by the wisest men.
So, please, oh please, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away, and in its place you can install, a lovely bookcase on the wall.
A person is a fool to become a writer. His only compensation is absolute freedom. He has no master except his own soul, and that, I am sure, is why he does it
Two hours of writing fiction leaves this writer completely drained. For those two hours he has been in a different place with totally different people.
We have so much time and so little to do. Strike that, reverse it.
A writer of fiction lives in fear. Each new day demands new ideas and he can never be sure whether he is going to come up with them or not.
Unless you have been to boarding-school when you are very young, it is absolutely impossible to appreciate the delights of living at home.

Happy 100th Birthday Roald Dahl
