After a whirlwind 36 hours back in May, as they were cancelled by FOX then saved by NBC, the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine have reunited to begin filming their sixth season.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine centres around the fictional 99th Precinct in New York and the detectives who work there; Jake Peralta, Amy Santiago, Rosa Diaz, Charles Boyle, Terry Jeffords, Captain Raymond Holt, Hitchcock and Scully. Each episode consist of two modern classic comedy traits; a main plot, often involving Peralta trying to solve a case while overcoming comical obstacles, and a subplot, which involves any of the rest of the cast.
Many of the cast began posting pictures together on the set on Wednesday to let fans know that filming had begun. Melissa Fumero, who plays Amy Santiago posted a video on Instagram Stories of herself and her co-star Joe Lo Truglio, who plays Charles Boyle, in their makeup trailer getting ready to go on set, expressing how excited they were about return, simply captioning it with party popper emojis with the hashtag ‘Brooklyn99’. Fellow co-star Stephanie Beatriz, who plays Rosa Diaz, also posted a picture of herself on her Instagram Stories in front of an NYPD 99th Precinct sign. Andy Samberg, who plays Jake peralta posted pictures with some of the cast on his twitter account with the caption ‘Back at the 99…’.

At the end of the fifth season Jake Peralta and Amy Santiago finally tied the knot after a disaster of a wedding day, having to evacuate their wedding venue after receiving a bomb threat from someone Amy had arrested. Also, viewers were left on a cliff-hanger about whether or not Captain Holt had gotten dream job: Commissioner of the NYPD.
However, the fifth season may have been the last for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as it was cancelled by American network FOX. But after an outpouring of love and support from the show from celebrities such as Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Hamill, Sean Astin and Guillermo Del Toro, as well as everyday viewers who found so much comfort and joy in the show -which, while still being tastefully humorous, tackles issues such as sexuality and racism- was picked up by another American network, NBC. The network is responsible for producing and airing other popular comedies such as The Office (U.S.), Parks and Recreation and The Good Place.
In an interview at the NBC Upfronts, just after the rollercoaster weekend of a cancellation and a pick up, Joe Lo Truglio referred to NBC as “eagles” that “swooped down” to save the much loved comedy.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be returning in January 2019 with 13 brand new episodes. I look forward to see what the new series will bring!
