After another year of revision cards, past papers and extremely hard work, young people across the school – and Scotland – finally received their long-awaited exam results on the 7th August.
Following the famous SQA text, email or post, we all sat back in a state of relief while staring at those important letters we have been so nervous to receive. Whether disappointed or overjoyed, I’m sure we are all thankful that the wait is over!
Different Paths
An SQA Candidate Advice Line ran until Friday 10th August, to provide general information and advice about the Scottish Qualifications Certificate. As well as this, My World of Work and Skills Development Scotland was also on hand to offer candidates who didn’t receive their desired results careers advice and information – these services were definitely able to gain peace of mind for many young people and ensure them that there are always other pathways in to desired jobs despite a disappointing set of results.
To further this peace of mind, people online have spoken out about their own experiences with receiving exam results – many were tweeting under #NoWrongPath to stress the inspiring fact that exam results do not determine your entire future; you do. So don’t be too disheartened if you didn’t receive that A in Physics that you really wanted – there is always an alternative!
Homegrown Success
Focusing within our own community, a great number of pupils within St Andrew’s and St Bride’s have been pleased to recieve an impressive set of results – whether National 5s, Highers or Advanced Highers, there have been many well deserved celebrations. It is a true testament to all the hard work and effort of each pupil, as well as the dedication and support of all teachers in our school. Our headteacher Fiona Mullen gave a comment to ‘The Daily Record’ on the tremendous success of our school:
“Another great set of results for all the pupils in St Andrew’s and St Bride’s and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them.
“This is a tremendous achievement and testament to the hard work and commitment of our students, the constant help and encouragement of parents and carers as well as the professionalism and dedication of staff not only in St Andrew’s and St Bride’s High School but across the whole learning community.
This same newspaper also reported on an interesting trend, as this year it seemed as if success may be genetic, as we saw fantastic results from two sets of siblings – Joseph and Jessica Hagan and Thomas and Eleanor Service. Between the four of them they secured a whopping 25 A-Grade passes at National 5 and Higher Level. S4 twins Katie and Niall McEntagart earned 15 A-Grade National 5 passes as well.
Now we have returned to a new year which is to be accompained by a new set of knowledge to master and a new set of experiences along the way – time to do it all over again!
