Scott Brown announced on the 26th of February that he has retired from the Scottish national team for a second time.
The 32 year old midfielder had initially ended his international career in the summer of 2016. Brown has said he has retired because of his already packed football calendar with Celtic and because he now does not feel his body can handle the extra games anymore. This decision is also because of Scotland’s recent qualifying campaign for the World Cup which Scotland failed to qualify for. Brown has said that he won’t be returning to the Scottish national team for a third time and that he means his retirement this time.
Dunfermline born, Brown started his career with Hibernian and made his Scotland debut 2 years before his transfer to Celtic. Brown went on to captain his country under Gordon Strachan. Brown earned 55 caps for his country and he scored 4 goals during this time.
Brown has recently said following his retirement from International football – “In terms of looking after my own body and in interests of my family, I felt now is the right time. I have spoken to Alex Mcleish over the weekend. I really wanted to tell Alex first what I was thinking about things. Obviously I will be supporting the lads all the way as they try to get to the Euros.”
