With Marvel’s latest superhero blockbuster ‘Black Panther’ just recently hitting our cinemas, I decided to give a quick review of this great film and give some of my opinions about how this is a wonderful celebration of African culture.

The film follows African Prince T’Challa (a.k.a Black Panther) who has to go home to his country, Wakanda, to fill the place of King after his father’s tragic death. After he is crowned king he has to deal with thieves who are stealing his country’s most important resource, Vibranium, and a family member who is trying to kill him to gain the throne.

I might not advise it to be watched by under eights as it is a 12A due to a lot of violence and some mild bad language. Despite that it is a really action-packed movie and if you like Marvel or superheroes I think you should definitely consider going to see it.

And not only is it an amazing film, it also has a unique perspective on honouring the African heritage of each of the characters with all the scenery, costumes and even with the background music. I definitely hope that there will be a sequel, or at least Marvel will keep representing their traditions in such a respectful way.
