Alexander Krushelnitsky, 25 and wife Anastasia Bryzgalova, 25, are set to be stripped of their bronze medals in Curling  after Krushelnitsky  tested positive for meldonium at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

It is rumoured that Krushelnitskys teammate has spiked his drink with meldonium at training before he left for South Korea.“Of course we very much hope it was some kind of mistake…I can’t imagine what kind of drugs you could use in curling … so it’s very hard to believe.” said by Viktoria Moiseeva.

In 2016 over 100 Russian athletes. Maria Sharapova who is the former No 1 in Tennis was forced to serve a 15 month ban for consuming meldonium as it was included in the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited list.

“I’m very sorry that the historical victory of Russian curling has now become the subject of a doping scandal, which is doing immense harm to our sport and to all Russian sports in general. At the same time, I am ready to openly state that I have never, never during the time that I practice sport, used forbidden drugs and any other dishonest ways of competing” Krushelnitsky is stating here that he has not once consumed the drug and apologises for the drama caused by the incident.

And for those who don’t know what meldonium is, it raises the blood flow and enhances exercise capacity and is prefered by endurance athletes.
