The ‘Matched’ series by Ally Condie is about a world that is run by the ‘Society’. Nobody knows how to write, everything is done through a computer. Everybody knows only what the Society wants them to know. There are certain pills that each person has to take when commanded to. The green pill to keep calm, blue to survive in emergencies and the red pill to forget. people are normally told to take these tablets when they witness someone who has broken the law and has been taken away.
The worst thing about this life is you have no choices. They decide your partner, when you get married, when you have children, if they want you to have all of these things that is. They can choose if you’re meant to be alone for ever. However one thing is certain and that is when you die. Each person dies on their 80th birthday with your immediate family by your side. Cassia always wondered why she was never allowed to taste her grandfather’s last meal, but there are somethings that the family aren’t told but have to discover by themselves.
Her Grandfather loved poetry. They were only allowed to know 100 poems that the government thought suitable after the war against the enemy. Her grandmother and grandfather, however dangerous it was, kept a poem.
When Ky comes along, after her 16th birthday, when she’s been matched, she falls in love with him, forbidden love.
They need to keep their relationship a secret however but it’s not always easy. They must fight against the order of things and find out who they are together.
