He owned different homes in 4 different states, was a wealthy gambler and spend has spent most of his retirement in expensive hotels. Stephen Paddock is the 64 year-old man who from his hotel room killed at least 59 people and injured 527 people in a 72-minute shooting making it the worst mass shooting in modern America history. He opened fire on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, where he had been staying since Thursday September 28. When officers broke into his room they found that he had already taken his own life.
So who was Stephen Paddock?
Stephen Paddock is the son of a convicted bank robber who was always running from the law, but Stephen Paddock led a completely different life after graduating he became a real-estate investor and a former accountant which made him a multi-millionaire. His action shocked not only the world but also his family who said “He was just a guy,” and “Something happened, he snapped or something.” Paddock’s father was “psychopathic” and was on the FBI’s most wanted list. Psychopathy is defined as a mental illness that causes abnormal or violent social behaviour, it is said the psychopathy can be inherited, but Stephen Paddock did not show any obvious traits of the mental illness. Marilou Danley was Paddock’s partner, but it was not a fairy-tale relationship as Paddock’s friend says “not what I saw as a loving, caring relationship” he also said that “Marilou, as I said a lovely girl, seemed very nervous and jittery around Steve. He would talk in a more of a condescending way at times and I, whilst concerned, was prepared to dismiss it as to be, ‘That’s his nature’.” It is believed that Paddock was more of a sponsor to Ms Danley rather than a loving partner as he was always sending money to the Philippines for her, even before the shooting he sent her £75,000 ($100,000).
Even with his abnormal behaviour, the police are still looking for his motive.
