On the 19th of September, Donald trump was warmly welcomed into the United Nations – ultimately resulting in an eruption of criticism and, of course, fear of an anticipated breakout of nuclear war. However, for all the serious politics, Trump’s visit proved more than entertaining.
Through making improvised comments, much to the dismay of his team members, the President seemed to play the general assembly as if it was Saturday Night Live. Such comments have since turned into somewhat of a national joke. For one, endowing the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with “Rocket Man.” In Trump’s eyes, this appeared to be a befitting title – although not so much for the prestigious gathering of world leaders.
Further, making the point that the US would eventually have no other choice but to “totally destroy” North Korea. He also declared, in a tone unfit for the world’s diplomatic headquarters, that Kim Jong Un was ultimately on a “suicide mission for himself and his regime”
Swaziland and Zimbabwe, proud, respectable nations, held looks of disappointment on their face. Turkey on the other hand appeared to be appealing well to the comedic side of Trump’s dialogue. Naturally, the absence of North Korea’s representatives was dually noted.
So how has the ‘Rocket Man’ himself reacted to this? Well, Kim Jong Un has commented saying that Trump’s tantrum at the UN will indeed cost him dearly. The dictator has also threatened, via his foreign minister, that his country is willing to test yet another hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean. He has clarified that Trump’s speech was exactly what he wanted and needed to hear.
For what you might ask? Well, I think we can imagine the answer for that ourselves.
It must be said, an international uproar of unimaginable size is on the horizon. Just to keep things interesting, this uproar will likely be arriving hand in hand with a catastrophically deadly nuclear present.
