Donald Trump has once again shown the people of America and the world what side he stands on. The side of racism and discrimination.
Donald Trump recently took to his twitter to proclaim that he was pardoning Sheriff Arpaio. This is a big deal. This ‘Sheriff’ who, as a police officer, should be protecting the people and enforcing the law, has instead repeatedly broken these moral-principles for personal gain.
He has been held accountable for contempt of court conviction, found guilty of racial profiling on multiple occasions according to the courts and has also had hundreds of sex crime complaints lodged against him – which, incidentally, have all mysteriously disappeared.
To our horror, a story of his actions in prison comes to light – keeping a pregnant inmate chained and shackled to her bed, throughout labour.
These crimes and verdicts, along with many others have in total, racked up a whopping $141 million in tax payer costs, simply for finding and employing lawyers to defend him.
Just like his presidential pardoner, Arpaio has a long and nasty history of fighting with judges who have disagreed with him. For example, in 2009 a discredited bribe was made to a judge who had previously opposed him.
In addition to this sneaky behaviour, Arpaio – a very early supporter of Trump’s campaign – constructed an illegal investigation of the judge who presided over the racial profiling case and ultimately deemed him guilty.
Now following in the footsteps of his idol, who is none other than the president himself, Arpaio is considering making a return to republican politics.
Which in fact a few decades ago, he actually managed get himself kicked out of.
Arpaio says he hasn’t quite reached a decision on this matter, however he also commented saying “I haven’t gone away”.
For the sake of social justice and basic human decency progressing further in American politics – rather than the likes of the Trump train veering toward more fascist stupidity – it’s probably for the best if he did indeed go away and never ever come back.
