Ridley Scott has always had stand out movies which never disappoint the audience, and this movie is no exception.
The Martian is a simplistic, sci-fi epic which brings new elements and something different to the sci-fi genre as a whole.
The movie starts with the ARIES 3 crew on Mars exploring the planet, when a freak storm hits Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after being hit by a piece of debris. His crew escape, which include Commander Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain), Beth Johanssen (Kate Mara), Rick Martinez (Michael Pena), Alex Vogul (Aksel Hennie) and Chris Beck (Sebastian Stan). Mark Watney is alive on Mars by a miracle, and now must find ways to survive like growing potatoes and using his botanic skills to live on the barren dead planet long enough for rescue to come from NASA.
The Martian provides amazing special effects, an interstellar cast and a great story, which provides exciting and logical moments involving science and spacecraft, as well as funny moments including disco music and jokes about the Mars experience.
Overall, this movie is another great movie from Ridley Scott who transfers the excitement and exhilarating moments from the book to the big screen.
The movie’s only drawback is a few moments of scientific explanations which may confuse people, and a 2 hour 17 minute run time, which sometimes drags the movie on at times, particularly where the viewer may not be all that interested in the science and logic behind the reasons of how these missions occur.
A blockbuster experience.
