Pope Francis has urged Christians across Europe to open up their homes to refugees, as he revealed the Vatican will take in two families “fleeing death “in the middle East. Pope Francis states “it’s not enough to say have courage, hang in there”.
He also said that every parish, every religious community, every monastery, and every sanctuary of Europe should take in one desperate refugee family.
Tens of thousands of refugees have poured into Europe into Germany from Austria, and thousands more made the hazardous crossing from Turkey to Greece as the migrant crisis showed no signs of dying down.
Pope Francis used his Easter message earlier this year to pray for the refugees, and highlight the suffering of people across the Middle East and elsewhere.
Pope Francis also called the conflict in Syria and Iraq the most overwhelming tragedy in decades. The sad truth is at only 332,000 people have reached Europe so far this year.
