Numeracy and Maths

Below is a grid with an overview of learning for maths, the majority of which was covered in class.  The exception is ‘Time’ and so please find possible activities which can be completed below.

If your child can competently count forwards and backwards to 20,  the next steps are to count to 30. All the activities on the grid working with numbers to 20 can be carried out with numbers to 30.

Also, below is a grid of ideas to help with ‘mental’ maths.  These activities involve numbers to 20. However, if you feel your child is competent in counting to 30 then complete the activities with numbers up to 30.

Time

These resources can be used to help teach time to your child.  Songs which can be sung and memorised are usually the most beneficial way of learning days of the week and months of the year for young children.

A power point for parents with a few useful tips.

Supporting Your Child’s Learning in CfE Early Level Numeracy and Maths Time PowerPoint

In Primary 1 we usually concentrate on telling the time to ‘O’clock’. If you’re child understands ‘O’clock’ then introduce ‘half past’.

There are several clips here but all of them are a useful starting place for different aspects of ‘Time’.
