Home Learning Grid Week 6

Hi everybody! I’m looking forward to seeing all of the things that you get up to this week!

Here is your learning grid for this week: Home Learning Grid 18-05-20

This week, your learning grid is slightly different.  There are three activities which are highlighted in green in this week’s grid.  These are the 3 most important activities which I would really like you to try and send back to me.  You can add your work to your Class Notebook.  Here are some help sheets if you are not sure how to do this:

There is a writing task highlighted in green this week.  Don’t worry if you haven’t done managed to try the tasks on writing an argument on your learning grids from Week 2, 3, 4  and 5.  You can still have a go at the writing task on this week’s grid, just try your best!

Please get in touch if you are not sure about any of the activities for this week.  You can post any questions in our class team and me and Miss Gray will try to help! Or you can email me!

Home Learning Grid Week 5

Hello P7! I hope you have all had a chance to enjoy some of the lovely weather that we have been having recently! I’m missing hearing all of your news but it is so nice to be able to keep in touch using Teams! Remember to use the Playground Chat Channel to keep in touch with everyone!

Home Learning Grid Week 4

Welcome to another week of remote learning P7! I have really enjoyed looking through all of your fantastic work and can’t wait to see what you get up to this week!

Here is your learning grid for this week: Home Learning Grid 04-05-20

This week we will be starting to explore Class Notebook on Teams. This is an area within our P7B Team on Glow.  It is an online notebook which lets pupils add their work for me to see! It is a really useful way for me to see how everyone is getting on and for me to be able to give feedback on any brilliant work which you send me! Any work added can only be seen by the pupil who has added it and myself.  Pupils only have access to their own work.

I have made up some ‘Help Sheets’ to help you explore and understand the Class Notebook tool on our P7B Team.  If you could try to have a look around it this week and become familiar with where it is on Teams, then that would be super!

Here are the help sheets:

How to – Find your Personal Notebook

How to – Add work to your notebook

How to – Find your Class Notebook

If possible, I would like everyone to start adding their work to this area on Glow when they have completed it. Please do not worry if this is all entirely new to you… I had never used Class Notebook either until late last week! We are all learning here J

Please feel free to email me if you are unsure about anything at gw18clubballierobert@glow.sch.uk… I will try my best to help!

For this week, if you can take pictures of your learning this week you can send these to my GLOW email account: gw18clubballierobert@glow.sch.uk

You also have the option of sharing your learning with me by attaching any documents you create to the same email address.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch! I’ll be happy to help!

Sumdog Information

Sumdog login details were sent in the email to parents yesterday (Monday 23rd March).  This is a brilliant online resource, which allows pupils to practise their skills in maths.  I have gone in and set up maths challenges for each group which are relevant to what pupils need to be focusing on in maths.  This will give them a great chance to practise! I have included instructions below on how to log in to Sumdog challenges:

Sumdog Challenges – How do I get on?

When you first log on to Sumdog you will have to ‘race’ sumdog to the finish line and answer a few questions.  Once you have done that, you will reach a screen which looks like this:

Click on the ‘Tasks’ tab at the side of the screen and you will see your challenges!

You will then see a screen which looks like this:

Choose which challenge you would like to work on and try to get your best score! I will be able to check in and see how you are getting on! Have fun!

USEFUL INFORMATION FOR HOME LEARNING

There are  range of websites and resources which are very useful to help you practise important skills and revise knowledge.

Audible Stories:

Below is a link for the newly launched ‘Audible Stories’ website.  This is a fantastic resource which has been created to allow pupils to access hundreds of brilliant audiobooks for free! It is well worth a look! Choose a novel/story which interests you and listen to a few chapters every day! Remember you can still write a book review for an audiobook which you have listened to!

I have included links for some good novel suggestions below:

The Jungle Book:

https://stories.audible.com/pdp/B0062QFT5C?ref=adbl_ent_anon_sc_pdp_pc_1

Alice in Wonderland:

https://stories.audible.com/pdp/B015D78L0U?ref=adbl_ent_anon_ds_pdp_pc_cntr-1-1

The Wind in the Willows:

Swiss Family Robinson:

https://stories.audible.com/pdp/B002V8MG92?ref=adbl_ent_anon_ds_pdp_pc_pg-1-cntr-0-37

Numeracy Workout:

Numeracy workout is a brilliant way for pupils to revise and explore different topics in maths.  Pupils can work through all topics and move at their own pace.  It is useful for revision as the activities and questions change each time a topic is revisited.

I have included a link for Numeracy Workout below and the school’s log in details for the website:

https://www.numeracyworkout.co.uk/

username: soundps

password: share32

Times Table Rockstars:

All pupils have a username and password for Times Table Rockstars.  This is an excellent website to use for practising times tables.  I have included the link below:

Home

Nessy Learning:

Any pupils who have access to Nessy Learning to practise their spelling should continue to access this resource from home.  This can be their main form of spelling practice.

GLOW:

Your GLOW passwords have been changed and this information has been emailed out to parents.  There are lots of useful resources which can be accessed through GLOW.  I have included more detailed information on GLOW below.

GLOW Blogs:

Each pupil in P7 has their own individual GLOW blog.  This can be added to at any time from a home computer, tablet or smart phone.  If pupils manage to complete any of the writing tasks which were sent home in their home learning packs last week, they can upload them to their GLOW blog and I will then be able to read through them and give them feedback.   I look forward to reading all of your brilliant stories and book reviews!

Below are some useful apps which can be accessed through GLOW.  When pupils log on to GLOW, they will see a tab at the top of the screen which says ‘App Library’.  This is where they can search for any app on glow and then add it to their ‘Launch Pad’, which is the main home screen which they will see every time they log into GLOW.

TigTag:

This can be accessed through GLOW.  TigTag is a resource which is frequently used to work through science based projects in class. It is a brilliant resource which includes video clips, activity suggestions and experiment ideas to accompany a wide range of science topics.  It would be useful for P7 pupils to look through the ‘Plants’ section on TigTag and work through the activities suggested.

TedEd:

This is a brilliant resource which includes an enormous range of educational video clips to watch and tutorials of different activities such as science experiments.

Topmarks:

Topmarks is a website which can be accessed on the internet or through GLOW.  It includes hundreds of educational games which aim to practise a range of maths skills.  It would be useful for P7 to focus on practising their times tables, fractions, decimals and percentages.

Newsround:

Newsround is a brilliant CBBC news channel aimed at upper primary aged pupils.  They produce two daily news bulletins, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to keep young people up to date on what’s going on in the world around them! The class are familiar with newsround and would usually watch it on a daily basis when at school.

I hope that keeps you busy for now P7!  I look forward to seeing your work on your GLOW blog!

World War One Timeline

P7B worked together in groups to research different key events within World War One.  They created information sheets and gathered images of the events using the internet and Microsoft Publisher.  We added their research information to our class timeline to help us remember the order of the events and what happened!

Life in the Trenches

We have been learning all about life in a World War One trench as part of our topic. P7B considered what it would have been like in a trench by thinking about their 5 senses.  We worked in groups to brainstorm ideas for each sense to build up a picture of how a soldier may have experienced the trenches.  This is the result! We now have loads of great ideas for our writing! Next week we are going to create imaginary letters home from the trenches and this has given us a great head start.

We added our brainstorms to the wall, which means we can go and refer to them for ideas during the writing process.

Kahoot!

P7B have been enjoying reading their class novel ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar this term.  They have been testing their understanding of the story using a weekly Kahoot! quiz.  They have enjoyed working against the clock to answer lots of questions with the laptops.

P7B enjoy using this online activity to do their comprehension.  They particularly enjoy the little bit of friendly competition! 🙂

Everyone in the class uses a laptop to select which answer they think is right. The questions and answer options are displayed on the interactive whiteboard so that everyone can see them clearly.
Kahoot! keeps track of everyone’s scores and answers. At the end, we can ask Miss Clubb if we want to see our score!

Class Debate

As part of our World War One topic, we have been thinking about what life was like in Shetland during World War One. P7B had a debate to help us consider whether life was easier in Shetland during World War One, or in the present day.

Groups had to work together with their team to construct arguments, back them up with evidence and prepare for the debate!

This activity helped us to develop our skills in working and communicating with others. We also learned the importance of behaving with respect during a debate. Over half of the class have signed up for our debate club in Wider Achievement Times on Friday afternoons. We may have some future MPs among us!

Ready for action!
We had some very passionate speeches throughout our debate! P7 showed real enthusiasm for putting their point across.
Hard at work preparing their arguments!

Class Charter

We discussed the importance of remembering our rights and responsibilities whilst in school. P7 sorted through the UNCRC rights and decided which ones they felt were most important to them.  We decided to use the rights which they selected to form the basis for our class charter.  We worked together to create a display which included our ideas for how we could all be happy, safe and able to learn at school.  This is the result!

Welcome to our P7B Blog!

We are hoping to keep you up to date with all of the exciting things we are getting up to in P7! We hope you like it! 🙂
