Baking for Children in Need 2013

On Thursday 14th of November Phoebe and Kerry made blueberry and cranberry muffins using a packet mix. First they washed their hands and then tied their aprons so that if they put their hands in the mix or touched the ingredients then they would have to clean their hands so they wouldn’t get germs in the cakes. Then they measured the butter which was 135 g on the scales and then an adult helped them  melt the butter in a pan and it smelled like popcorn. After they had melted the butter they cracked the eggs and whisked them. Then Phoebe and Kerry mashed the banana in a bowl until the banana turned mushy. Then they mixed the banana, melted butter and the whisked eggs and added the packet mix. They mixed it with a wooden spoon. They got baking trays and put the cake mixture in the oven at 180 C. When they took them out the smelt very yummy. Then they made notes for friends and family. They made stickers to put on the bag of cakes.  On Friday people gave a donation and took a bag of their muffins.

Baking Lemon Biscuits

On Thursday the 14th of November Honor and Melissa did baking for Children in Need. They washed their hands and they put on their aprons because it saves people from getting germs in their food. In their recipe they used 250g butter, 140g caster sugar, 1 egg yolk, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 300g plain flour and one lemon and mixed it. They put it in the fridge for 30 minutes  and took it out to roll the mixture. When they rolled it and shaped it to how they wanted it they put it in the oven. They took it off the tray with a spatula and they had their biscuits! Honor learned how to zest a lemon and Melissa learned to squeeze a lemon.

Children in Need Baking

On Thursday the 14th all the pupils of Burravoe School did some baking for Children in Need. Everyone made cookies apart from Phoebe and Kerry and they did gluten and dairy free blueberry and cranberry muffins. Abby and Mia did double chocolate treat cookies. The first step was to wash their hands and put their aprons on because they didn’t want to get their clothes messy. The next step was to weigh out 250g margarine and 140g of sugar.  Then they had to grease 3 trays. Then they had to chop up 160g of chocolate. They had to use scissors. They had to separate 1 egg white and the yolk in cups. Then they had to substitute 50g of cocoa powder for 50g of flour. They had to measure out 250g into the mix. Then add the egg yolk and 2 tsp of vanilla essence in the mix. Then they had to roll it in to little balls with their hands and they made 15 biscuits. Then they had to bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes. When they were waiting for the biscuits to cook they made lables for the bags. The labels had Pudsy drawn on them and they wrote “Thank You for your donation, take me!” When they came out then they had to use a spatula to take the biscuits off the tray. Then they had to wait for them to cool. Then they put the biscuits in a box over night.

The next morning they had to take them out of the box and put them in bags and put the labels on the bags. When it was time for peace the chocolate biscuits that they made were all sold out.

Active Small School Sports 2013

P5, 6 and 7 went to Clickamen and got a bus to Lerwick for a sports day. We went with Mid Yell and Cullivoe primary 5, 6 and 7 on the bus we took. There were lots of 1 and 2 teacher schools there.

We were split into different groups and all of the groups are countries in the commonwealth for the commonwealth games in Glasgow in 2014. There were 6. Kerry was in team Scotland, Charlotte and Mia were in team Brunei and Melissa and Leah were in team Jamaica. Team Jamaica won. They won water bottles with Glasgow 2014 on them. Kerry thought it was medals in the box with the water bottles. The rest of the people that didn’t win got to choose for different coloured band with Glasgow 2014 on them.

The sports that was there was 2 athletics, netball, rugby, hockey and bowls.

With the athletics they were athletics were you ran and bounced of a bounce board. Team Scotland and Team Jamaica did the running athletics and Team  Brunei and Team Scotland  did  the long jump and the hurdles and doing football with no feet and throwing beanbags to get on the others side.

In netball we talked about the different types of throws in netball they were chest pass, shoulder pass and bounce pass. After we had practiced our passes we had games of netball and Kerry was a yellow vest and Mia was a blue vest.

In rugby we played with tag belts and you put a belt on and you had two tags and if you got your tags pulled of you had to be a catcher.

In hockey we played a game when you had to hit people’s hockey balls when they were dribbling them and try and get the ball to hit the wall and if it did then the owner that owned the ball was out and the last person in was the queen or king of hockey.

We did bowls as well.

At  the end of the whole sports day they told us the winning team which was Jamaica  and the winning points which was 113 points which was for effort, team work and respect then we went home.

The ferry took 20 minutes over the other side (Toft).  It took 40 minutes to get to Lerwick ( where Active School was being held); It is being held in the leisure centre called The Clickamin.

When we got to Clickamin we found out which group we were in, Charlotte and Mia (were in Brunei), Leah and Melissa (were in Jamaica) and Kerry (was in Scotland). There were 6 teams; Jamaica, Canada, Scotland, Jersey, Brunei and Shetland. We went to get changed quickly!

We played Rugby first; We played Bulldog which is kinda like catchy game, were you take of the tags which was wrapped around our waist.

Next it was Athletics; first we ran to the bounce board and bounced off the board. Next they put the plastic  hurdles in, we had to jamp over the hurdles while running.

After Dinner we did played balls. We roll the ball on the bowling green.

The last activity was hockey. We held the hockey stick properly. Then we went in groups and practice dribbling.

I did loads of things in the October holiday. I went swimming with Bradley, Sofia, Mam, Dad and a girl who I met at Fiddle Frenzy called Anya. After we went swimming we went to her house and we practiced fiddle and played with her Moshlings. We had fun!

I went to Aberdeen with my mam for 4 days to visit my granny. We stayed in Clan Haven. It was really good to see my granny. We got to wear these blue plastic things around your neck that unlocked your room and also to get in Clan. My mam got lost loads so I had to do the map reading.

We went to see my mams pal who lives in Aberdeen. She has a daughter who I played with and I saw a film with her called Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 in Cineworld. I liked the bit when Flint Lockwood said ” OH NO THEY’RE A LEAK IN THE BOAT” when they had a actual leak in the boat, the vegetable. I got Ben and Jerry’s cookie dough ice cream. I got to choose a pick and mix bag.

I got to do LOADS of shopping. I got a new Superdry jacket. It is black with turquoise. I went to the Disney shop and got stuff for Sofia and it is really cool. I could stay in the Disney shop all day!

I went to Union Square and Bon Accord shopping centres. I went to Boots, Superdrug, Claires Accessories, Superdry shop (obviously), H&M, Zara and many more! I also went to Toys “R” Us and got Bradley a Pokemon toy and I got Moshlings

When I got home I had 1 more day left. I gave Sof and Bradley their toys. They were really happy with them. I was very happy.
