Happy New Year !

Happy New Year !

in P3 we have been working very hard to learn a Scots poem.   Our poem is, ” The sair finger” by Walter Wingate.

We have to learn as much of the poem as we can memorise.

We also spent a lot of time trying to translate the Scots words into English so that we could understand the poems.

Next week we will work on pace, clarity, expression and gestures when we are saying our poems.

We also listened to a story about Bea and Brodie that is set in Scotland. Some of the words were in Scots so, we enjoyed trying to work out their meanings in English.

In Numeracy we have been focusing on addition and for MSHD we spent some time handling 3D shapes and chatting about their properties. We have also started to look at symmetry and we have played some fun games to help us to learn about symmetry.

We also made some New Year’s Resolutions to try to start or improve on something in 2022.

A hard working first week back, P3. Well done!

Happy Holidays

Primary 3 have had a lovely festive week.

On Monday Santa visited our class and brought us some jigsaws. The jigsaws were geography based: the world, Europe, and Great Britain.  We have throughout the week tried to finish them.

We made a seasonal tree calendar and gift wrapped it on Monday as well.

On Tuesday we made rocking snowmen Christmas cards, enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch and watch our school’s Sing-a-long video.  We also had time on the iPads and played some festive games.

On Wednesday we did some sewing of a festive stocking and made a sequins bauble for our tree.  We watched the Cinderella Pantomime and were treated to an ice lolly while we watched the show.

On Thursday we made Santa boxes and filled them with some sweeties.  We also made a little mouse with a candy cane as a tail.

Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year.  Take care and stay safe.

Ho ho ho !

We had a very important guest in our class today – Santa!

The reindeer got a bit restless on the roof and Mr Harkness looked after them and fed them their carrots. Rudolph was a bit mischievous but, once he had had his carrots he was quite happy.

Santa spent some time chatting to us and reminding us to be kind to others.

We were very considerate when we took our turn to open part of the parcels and we were very Eco friendly when we put the wrapping paper in the recycling bin.

In the afternoon when we had done all of our jobs we had great fun playing with Santa’s games.

Thank you to Santa and his elf helpers !

Christmas crafts

Learning how to shade our Christmas baubles on day 2 of the 12 Days of Christmas Inspire Learning activities for the iPads.

Riverside House

Working hard!

What is your wish for Christmas?
P 2/3 and P 3 have been very busy making christingles cards and writing letters for the residents of Riverside House. We hope they enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them.

We have also been busy making our own cards and calendars.

For these cards we were very Eco friendly – we recycled old sweetie wrappers.

Party party party

P3 had a fantastic party !

It was so much fun partying with our whole year group.

We loved dancing the Military two step, we played snowmen statues and we had fun finding a partner in the snowball game.

Thank you to the Parent Council for our party bags and food. This made our party much more special.

A big thank you to all of the adults who helped out at our party.

It was lovely to see everyone in their party clothes.

Wise men

P3 have been learning their wise men song and it sounds fantastic. What a catchy song! Super singing P3 ! ( Mrs Scott’s class )

We made crowns as props to wear when we were singing our song. We can’t wait to see the Nativity video.

Our teacher modelled how to do a piece of narrative writing this week and we wrote about a snowman and his best friend.

We have also been learning how to draw a table for Problem Solving. This is much trickier than it looks and it is a real skill to be able to draw straight lines using a ruler.

We are enjoying our class novel and finding out about the adventures Tomas and his dragon friends are having.

We have also been preparing for our Christmas party on Monday and we are looking forward to the party food.

Please remember to wear your party gear to school all day on Monday 13th December

We have finally been able to use the tablet card on our visual timetable!

It has been fun learning about how night and day are made and how the Sun, Moon and Earth work together to create the four seasons.

We are looking forward to seeing our completed self-portraits.

learning new strategies for adding larger numbers.

Do you want to draw a snowman?

A real highlight in P2 this week was using the iPads for the first time. We watched a short video of a story about a little girl and her snowman friend and then we learned how to use the Sketches School App to build a snowman picture. Our first iPad session was very successful with only a few hiccups which we were able to sort very quickly. We are all very proud of our snowmen.

Another highlight has been making our props for the virtual Christmas Nativity concert and learning our song. We have done so well with this. We like singing along without the words now.

We are really looking forward to singing our song on the stage next week.

We have been continuing to explore non-fiction books in class and although the text can be quite challenging we are doing very well and managing to read most of the book fluently.

We all enjoy discussing the photographs and text with our learning partners.

As we move into December we have been finding out about Advent and why we have advent calendars. It has been fun  searching around the classroom for our gift  and task if it is our name that is chosen.

A busy week

We had a very busy week.

We explored weighing with standard units and we used the 1Kg weight and the 500g or half Kilogram weight to weigh things in our classroom. We used the balance scales for this.

We are looking forward to using the kitchen scales next to weigh a variety of parcels.

We have also been learning a new strategy of breaking down numbers to help us to calculate the answer when we are working with bigger numbers.

In HWB we are continuing to explore what makes us unique because some of us found this a tricky word to say and understand. We liked painting a self portrait, looking in the mirror to help us  and it was great fun mixing the skin colour for our face and neck. We are not quite finished our self portraits but, we are looking forward to seeing them finished and posting them on our Blog page.

We are still having fun exploring Night and Day in our topic work. We discovered that a rotation of the Earth around the Sun causes night and day, a revolution of the earth around the Sun takes 365 days or 366 days in a Leap year. This causes the Seasons.

It also takes around 27 days for the Moon to be seen in all it’s phases. Many of us are enjoying completing our homework sheet andwe have been discussing the fact that on cloudy nights we cannot see the Moon to record on our sheet.

In class we took a little quiet time to do some Cosmic Yoga Kids with Jamie. We really enjoyed her Moon story and we felt so calm when we were doing the yoga.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and enjoy your extra day to celebrate St Andrew’s Day !
