Look on the bright side

Following the Skipper assembly earlier this term we have been learning different ways to think positively. We regularly talk about what we are grateful for.

We identified adults we trust who we can share worries with.

Everyone made and received an ‘appreciation card’ to remind them about what makes them special. It was great to watch the children’s faces as they received their card from whoever made it.

P2 sounds and signing

This week p2 revised the ‘ai’ and ‘ay’ sounds and collected words contains them. In dictation we wrote sentences including ‘May I play, Ayla?’

We have been building and interpreting bar chart, and played a game in pairs rolling a die to chart the numbers rolled.

Miss Muir taught us some new Signalong signs; bubbles, brush, doll, cat, duck, shoes and socks.

We are continuing to count odd and even numbers. The odd sock keeps appearing in different places in the classroom!

This week in P2

This week p2 learned the sound ‘er’ and noticed it in many words, including our classmate River. We wrote a description of ‘A Special Person’ which was heartwarming to read. We are continuing to order numbers to 20 and are also counting in odd and even numbers. In science we are describing what living things do and non living things can’t do. Miss Muir came to teach us some signalong signs. Ask us to show you signs for ‘hello, goodbye, please, thank you, good morning and mummy’. We wrote a book report about our class novel, ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and said what we thought of it.

New sound ‘ue’

Primary 2 are learning the sound ‘ue’ this week and have read and written words such as ‘glue, rescue and statue’. Subtraction work has focused on thinking about ‘how many more?’ and ‘what’s the difference?’
Our science lesson was identifying living and non living things.

Learning in P2

This week we learned the sound ‘oi’ and wrote many words containing that sound, including ‘koi’, which children told us is a fish they have eaten! We made a ‘foil coil’, a snake with colourful patterns on it. We are practising linking addition and subtraction facts to 10, and used cubes and counters on ten frames to check our subtractions. We are using a big book to capture our learning from ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’, and have described what the tricky words mean.

This week we are grateful for

‘school and teachers’

‘for all my friends’

‘for my teacher’

‘I’m going to a birthday party’

‘my Nana and Grandad’

We are grateful!

At our online assembly today P2 listened to Skipper’s message ‘look on the bright side’. We are going to think more about the good things that we are grateful for. Today we heard what some of us are grateful for.

I’m grateful for my family.

I’m grateful because my cousins are coming.

I’m grateful for my dog.

I’m grateful for my friends.

I’m grateful because I always get treated nicely.

I’m grateful because people in my class listen to what I say.

I’m grateful for my teddy bear.

I’m grateful for my hamster.

I’m grateful for my puppy-teddy.

I’m grateful for my toys.

Welcome back!

Welcome back Primary 2! We’ve had a fantastic first week back, settling in and learning together. Primary 2 have enjoyed seeing their friends again and playing outside. We have been learning to write and sequence numbers to 20 and have made our own number cards. Using cubes, we have shown that teens numbers are made from a ten and some ones. Our book study will be ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ by Ronda and David Armitage, so this week we have shared what we already know about lighthouses and what we want to know. We have drawn and painted lighthouses so that we can describe the parts. We have revised the sounds and learned a new sound ‘ou’ so that we can write ‘lighthouse’.

Here are some of the things P2 said about this week;

‘I liked writing on whiteboards.’

‘I like learning about lighthouses.’

‘I love lunch and going outside.’

I learned how to draw a lighthouse.’
