Goodbye and thank you p2

Well done everyone for a great primary 2! You have all grown and learned so much this year, and been especially resilient when things have been uncertain. I’ve really enjoyed being your teacher and I will miss you all. Thank you very much for your kind gifts and messages, I really appreciate them.

Have a wonderful holiday with your families and I will see you back at Kingsland in August.

The Kingsland Festival

We’re having a fantastic week in P2/1 celebrating the Kingsland Festival.

On Monday morning we put up bunting outside and made some bunting for our classrooms. We then all worked together to create a giant piece of artwork with bubbles floating from one page to another. In the afternoon we watched our films and had an ice lolly treat!

Yesterday we did a scavenger hunt in the morning. We had to see how many different things we could fit in our little boxes – we all did a great job helping each other!

In the afternoon we played some parachute games and had a picnic in the playground. We finished our wonderful afternoon with some bubbles.

It has been a lovely end to the term – thank you for all of your support and to the children for being such fantastic learners in a tricky year.

Kingsland festival

After PE we made bunting for Kingsland Festival then did a scavenger hunt. We had little boxes and had to collect 1-10 of little items from outdoors, for example, 1 stones, 2 flowers…10 blades of grass.

We played some outdoor games then watched ‘Despicable Me’ for the movie afternoon.

P2 photo

We’ve had a good week learning about bar graphs and Carroll diagrams in maths. Some children made their own graphs by asking everyone about their favourite pet and favourite ice cream flavour!

In writing we wrote about ourselves for our new P3 teacher. We described what we like and talked about our family, friends and favourite things.

We learned the rhymes ‘iss’ and ‘iff’ and talked about short vowel sounds.

Hedgehog rescue in P2/1

We had a very exciting start to the week this morning.

We were signing with Mrs Ryalls when a hedgehog ran past the P2/1 classroom! It then ran past the P1 classroom to the garden before running back. It was quite confused and zigzagging across the playground.

Mrs McGilp opened the door to check where it was and very nearly stood on it! It had stopped outside the P2/1 classroom door. Mrs Collins scooped it into a box and Mr Collins collected it and contacted the SSPCA.

We had regular updates and later found out the hedgehog is expecting hoglets. Mr Collins released it back to a safer spot in the school boundaries where it can hopefully have its hoglets in peace.

We did some fantastic drawing and recount writing about the hedgehog.

Junk modelling and data handling in P2/1

We’ve had another busy week. On Monday we had great fun at Sports with Mrs Fletcher and the rest of the P2s. We then wrote about this and drew some lovely pictures.

Also this week we’ve returned to data handling, looking at creating and interpreting information. We created our own class pictograms of our favourite flavours of ice cream and our favourite pets. Today we used tally marks to collect our data, finding out our favourite thing to do at school. Numeracy was most the popular, followed by PE and lunch!

This week we’ve also started doing some junk modelling which we will continue next week. We’ve had robots, ramps for cars and tunnels for a guinea pig!

In our art this week we stayed on the ice cream theme and made a collage of our own favourite flavour, painting the background a summer shade then taking our time to cut out and glue lots of little squares. We finished off with a choice of sprinkles.

We were also very excited to see our tigers on the wall outside our classroom. Thank you Mrs Ryalls for the great display!

Sports Day

On Monday p2 enjoyed a sunny sports day where they took part in six different activities including a beanbag shuttle, shooting basketballs and running over hurdles. Everyone was competing for their House and it was great to hear them cheering each other on.

There were sprinting races at the end and here are the winners.

Well done to everyone for taking part, doing their best and being good sports!

Multiplication in P2/1

We’ve had another busy week. Thank you for practising the spelling words at home. We wrote them again this morning and everyone did a great job.

This week we were excited to start multiplication. We’ve been looking at adding sets, using cubes and Lego to help us, and then using the times sign.

To mark the start of June and the warmer weather this morning we worked together at our tables to make summer scenes using plasticine. We took turns to share our ideas, negotiated a theme  – from an ocean to a garden to a desert island – and then everyone contributed a plasticine model.

The children’s highlights this week have been:

  • Learning to multiply
  • Making the plasticine models
  • Reading
  • PE
  • Lunch!
