Telling the Time

For Outdoor Learning today we had lots of fun playing time games. First we played days of the week hopscotch

Then we had to find the months of the year that were hidden all around the playground. We had to identify which month special events happen and also find our birthday month.

After that we got busy making our own clocks and testing each other to make different times

We then made a huge clock

and finished off our lesson with a game of

‘Whats the time Mr Wolf?!’

MD “I liked playing Whats the time Mr Wolf?’

ES “I liked making the clocks and playing Mr Wolf”

KS “I liked making the clock because we got to use twigs for the clock hands. I liked playing the big clock game but the wind kept blowing the hands!”

MYC “I liked using our little clocks and making the time with them”

LT “It was fun playing the game when we moved the big clock hands”

OL “I enjoyed playing whats the time Mr Wolf – I was the fastest”

HA “I enjoyed all of it!”

LO “I had fun playing the clock game”

October 2017 – Article of the month

Article 31

“That every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.

That member governments shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.”

This month our article of the month was chosen by Martha in P7.  Here is what she had to say…

The October holidays are coming up soon and I think this is a good one to on focus because we are going to rest and play during the holidays.

 

 

RRSA Journey

We have been working on many projects to try and achieve our RRSA.  This journey started in 2015.  Here are some things we have done.

 

Wall display

This is our new wall display. The pupils on the RRS committee planned and created this display. We used materials from the old display and recycled them. This tells the next part of our RRSA story. Initially we had to get our whole team on board the RRS ship. We did many activities in school to makes sure all staff and pupils understood the RRS ethos. We made our charter and are all on-board with trying to achieve this.

The RRS ship has now set sail and we are trying to share our vision with our families and the community. So far we have had information assemblies, values workshops, we sent our Fizzy mascot home to help parents know all about UNCRC and we wrote a school show which displays the RRS attitudes and values. Many parents and people from the village came to see our show and we have video evidence of us in action. We went through the script and linked each part to the UNCRC articles.

We update the blog regularly and this blog has been looked at all over the world. We hope to make some stronger links with international schools and then we can share more of our good work with them.

This was wall display 1 We set sail on the Fisherton RRS ship. We have made our charter. We will now share our RRS ideas and learning with the community.

Charter

Please read the Fisherton Primary Rights Respecting School charter.

 Children will respect these rights by:

  • Playing nicely and treating others with respect.
  • Inviting others to play and making sure nobody is left out.
  • Trying their hardest in all that they do and not distracting others from their learning.
  • Keeping their classroom and school tidy.
  • Making sure everyone is enjoying their playtime and taking care of the playground toys.
  • Putting their hand up and making an effort to ask and answer questions.

Adults will respect these rights by:

  • Ensuring there is always adult supervision in the playground.
  • Providing opportunities to play with friends and to join a variety of groups.
  • Encouraging and challenging children and other adults to do their best.
  • Providing a safe and clean learning environment.
  • Providing time to rest and play.
  • Making sure everyone has a chance to answer questions and share ideas.

This was written in 2016 with input from pupils, staff and parents. We researched the articles within the UNCRC when we developed our school values and wrote this charter in alignment with the UNCRC and the school values. We hope all children and adults of the school and community adhere to, and agree with, this charter.

Our Rights Respecting Mascot Fizzy

We are pleased to introduce our Right Rights Respecting School mascot.

Please welcome Fizzy into your family for a few days and ensure that all her rights are respected and her needs are met. Help your child to jot down how and when Fizzy’s rights were respected.

We hope you enjoy this little bit of fun that will help the whole school community on our journey to becoming a Rights Respecting School.

Day for a Change

We took part in Day for Change.

We started the New Year 2016 with a new challenge! Day for Change is Unicef UK’s annual fundraising campaign for Unicef’s work to keep children safe around the world. The challenge was to collect as much loose change as you can from January to May – from around the house, down the sofa,  pockets – and anywhere else anyone could think of!

Holistic Assessment – Term 4

P5-7 pulled many skills they had developed and knowledge they had gained to produce some fantastic presentations.

Pupils…

Worked in pairs to gather natural materials from our local beach and used the materials to create a collage. The collage was in the form of a mascot for plants. This mascot needed to have a name and the pupils had to explain why the mascot has certain features and attributes (character description). Pupils will had an opportunity to sketch a plan/design of the mascot before creating the mascot. Once they had created the mascot they continued to work together to write a poem (pupils choice – acrostic, rhyming, free verse, shape) The poem was delivered to the class by the mascot.

They used notes from previous research, activities and tests relating to this topic.

They shared the mascot and poem with the rest of the class and received peer assessment.

 

Learning Intentions

Convey what all living things do.

Research and present how plants reproduce.

Design and create a collage using natural materials.

Explain the reasons for my design choices.

Present information about plants though the medium of poetry.

 

Success Criteria

I can explain how plants reproduce.

I can explain the lifecycle of a plant.

I can combine natural materials to fulfil a design brief.

I can use my own notes from more than one source to select and organise information and to develop my ideas in order to help create my own text – a poem.

I can use relevant technical language that adds accuracy to my writing.

 

They had a design task….

Design Task:                                                                                                                Work in pairs to gather natural resource which will be used to create a plant mascot.   This plant mascot needs to have a name and you must write a poem for the mascot. The poem should include details of what a plant needs to grow and survive, how plants reproduce and what all living things do (MRS GREN).

Design your mascot by sketching a rough plan. Explain why you chose certain materials or for your mascot to have certain attributes.

By investigating the lifecycles of plants and animals, I can recognise the different stages of their development SCN 2-14a

I have the opportunity to choose and explore an extended range of media and technologies to create images and objects, comparing and combining them for specific tasks. EXA 2-02a

I can make notes, organise them under suitable headings and use them to understand information, develop my thinking, explore problems and create new texts, using my own words as appropriate. LIT 2-15a

Having explored the elements which writers use in different genres, I can use what I learn to create stories, poems and plays with an interesting and appropriate structure, interesting characters and/or settings which come to life. ENG 2-31a

Dolphin House 2017

We have arrived and the bed making giggles have begun!

Fun first day….. Park walk, beach talk, cycling, marshmallow toasting, hot chocolate drinking movie night awesomeness.

Day 2….

Beach yoga, perfect porridge, teepee playing, coasteering and rock pooling……all before midday!!

And the activities continued all day in the gorgeous sunshine!

Day 3 activities included more abseiling, caving and archery.  Nearly time for D.I.S.C.O night!

Famous DH final night disco has definitely not dissapointed! Some awesome moves AND live acts.
