Religious and Moral Education

St Margaret’s Parish in Johnstone is the link parish to our school community and we are supported by our school chaplain, Fr Paul Brady.

Our pupils are frequent visitors to church events including First Friday Mass and we have excellent links with the parish community.

St David’s is a denominational primary school and our Religious and Moral Education programme is based on the teachings of the Catholic Church. In addition to this, we also learn about other world religions throughout the school.

Religious education in Catholic schools takes place within the context of the wider Catholic faith community,
in partnership with home and parish. It is an integral part of the Catholic school, which is itself a community
of faith. It is designed to assist children and young people to be increasingly able to make an informed and
mature response to God in faith and to nurture that faith. It offers opportunities for both evangelisation –
proclaiming the Gospel message to all – and catechesis – the deepening of existing faith commitments
among believers.

As part of the Health and Wellbeing curriculum, there is a focus on Relationships,  Sexual Health and Parenthood. God’s Loving Plan. At St David’s PS, we use a programme called God’s Loving Plan which guides teacher on how children can be helped to develop healthy and respectful attitudes to their bodies and to all aspects of God’s gift of life. This part of our curriculum is usually delivered in Term 4 each year. Please click here to view more information about God’s Loving Plan and find out how you can support this aspect of the curriculum at home.  If you require any further information or would like to discuss this, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
